I recall watching the video of Abby Mansell i think his name was who sailed to Palmyra in the 1970s and salvaged 5tons of metal materials and a genertor engine. They also drove around in a jeep and army truck they got running on the loads of fuel available in the drums. I note that both jeep and truck are post WW2 military models from the late 1950s early 1960s era which would suggest some military involvement post WW2.

It really say's a lot for the fear mongering of environmental damage when you look at it today. All of these pacific Islands should of been maintained. Natures pretty tough.
