Palpatine was a genius...until he wasn't. He never knew love...something Anakin/Vader did. He forgot how strong Anakin loved those close to him. He lost everything, while Palpatine gained the whole galaxy. Then Luke happened. And Anakin had a connection to Padme once again.

These are the reasons why Palpatine didn't execute Order 66 earlier because he had more to worry about than just the Jedi. Rebellion from many powerful worlds would be very damaging to his new Empire especially in the first few years before he was able to consolidate his power. As we can see from the OT his plan went so well that it took nearly 20 years before an effective rebellion formed to challenge Palpatine. Before that it was just a world or two from time to time that they would invade if they didn't yield to Imperial pressure which they could easily crush...

I think Palpatine rise to power is closely parallelled to Stalin's rise to power. They had very different character's, but they were cunning to rise in power. Stalin, after Lenins death used his unassuming position as general secretary to gain power and allies. However like Palpatine, after they won absolute power, they no longer really tried to be cunning and just use plain force, terroor, violence and fear.
@TheKarotechia
@TheKarotechia Год назад
Nah. Stalin was much more cunning than that. He even managed to survive WW2 and turn himself into a patriotic hero although he was much responsible for the huge Soviet losses early in the war.
@nooneatall8072
@nooneatall8072 Год назад
Maybe Stalin is a parallel. But Awful Adolf would be a parallel as well. I'd say a better one. Finagling a surprising selection to be Chancellor then fomenting a crisis and being granted Emergency Powers to deal with it (power that was never relinquished) is pretty much what ol' Adolf did. Mr H. would also fit the bill of being cunning and smart as he rose to power in a democracy and overcame its checks and balances. Then once in power and with sweeping Emergency Powers, Mr H. became less and less cunning and smart and relied on force, terror, violence, and fear. And became far removed from the general populace. Adolf did have the support of the large corporations and business interests and those did benefit during his rule, at least early on. The primary model or inspiration for The Empire was Nazi Germany. Star Wars came out 32 years after the end of WWII and the end of Germany's Third Empire. The soldiers who fought in that war would have been in their 40s at the time. The Empire's uniforms and all that are very reminiscent of the Wehrmacht and the Schutzstaffel. The Soviet Union and Stalin may have been a secondary inspiration of course. As well as Augustus Caesar and the Roman Empire. And Napoleon and his French Empire.

@@cloudmaster182That maybe true, but those conflicts happened centuries ago, and with the clone wars still raging how many senators really cared if Palpatine was a Sith, not that many it appears. @cloudmaster182
@cloudmaster182 Год назад
@jmwilliamsart padme already had the Proclamation of 5000 or whatever, and that was before any revelations abt Palpatine being a Sith I think a lot more Senators would care given the context of Dooku, the leader of the CIS also being a Sith. There's only a few that are actually PERSONALLY loyal to Palpatine at that point. I think all the other political alignments he's built up might fall to the wayside when something like that comes out, w only his inner circle and people he's explicitly put into their positions really remaining loyal to him. And there's very few of those in the Senate/Republic

On neutrality: Belgium and Switzerland both wanted to stay out of the world wars. While Switzerland has it famous mountains and Belgium...does not, there was more to it than that. The Swiss have a fearsome martial tradition going back centuries to the landsknecht of the pike and shot days. A Swiss officer told a German officer they could mobilize a million men in 24 hours. The German asked what if five million men came over the border. The Swiss said, "Each man would fire five times and go home." The Germans never pushed their luck. As for the Belgians, while they did well against African tribesmen, against more capable opponents their efforts were mixed at best. Maybe if the men who gave Rommel so much trouble were stationed at Eben-Emael instead things would've turned out differently. It doesn't help that it's an artificial country with borders drawn by foreign powers to suit their needs, not those of the people that suddenly found themselves in union with their historical enemies (see the history of the goedendag).

Here's a question of thought: how come whenever a Star Wars hero is successful and/or survives impossible odds, that hero is said to have been protected by "plot armor," yet when the villainous Palpatine's impossibly elaborate "plans" work out "according to his design," and what doesn't work out has a contingency plan in place that becomes part of the plan that was foreseen anyway, not to mention the fact that Palpatine manages to survive several impossible lightsaber duels of which he was actually outclassed by his opponent, survives being thrown down a moon-sized shaft as well as the destruction of that moon-shaft, then shows up years, even decades later leading a secret Sith army. Despite all this absolutely ridiculous success and survival that would be called Baskar strength "plot armor" for any hero, how/why is Palpatine credited as being a genius? I call hypocrisy on this whole thing. 😒😏🧐😬

Hi generation tech, this is Bill Chrysler. I’m a big fan of your content, and your more realistic take on star wars with thought exercises and evidence based theories are amazing. However I am afraid that I must disagree with you on one thing: the dark saber is not destroyed. So I went and watched the scene multiple times, at the slowest speed possible and noticed something important. Bo Katan is wearing beskar. The hilt of the darksaber is also beskar. Not just any beskar though. At the time stamp of 13:20 on the disney plus book of boba fett episode five, return of the Mandalorian, Din Djarin says that the quality of beskar in the hilt is of a quality never seen before, to which the armorer says “indeed, it was forged over a thousand years ago.” At the same time, Bo Katan’s armor looks thin, of a quality most normal Mandalorians have, that can barely stop a blaster bolt. So how is it possible that Moff Gideon, who has a “Beskar alloy” cybernetic hand, can crush the darksaber, which is of high quality, without crushing the barely shielded and fragile human hand of Bo Katan. The answer is that he can’t. In fact, if you look at the crushed darksaber, the place where the crystal should be is barely damaged. That's because Gideons thumb and pointer finger rest slightly above Bo Katan's hand, so while the mixture of the beskar hilt plating, and Bo Kaktan’s armor stop Gideon from breaking the middle of the hilt, he does destroy the emitter, which is why the blade stops manifesting. But then the camera zoomed in at the crushed part, as we see a spasm of dark saber energy coming from the wrecked emitter. This proves that the crystal is not heavily damaged. If it was, the saber would explode, with the pent up energy as we see many time, such as the death stars crystals, the massive kyber crystal in rebels, the experimental lightsaber of that arrogant youngling in the Illum arc of the clone wars. But we don't see any kind of explosion from the saber. So the crystal is intact, big deal, so what? Well that means that Grogu could use the crystal from the dark saber to create a new lightsaber for himself. Now the major flaw in this theory is the massive explosion that take place soon after, but if you observe where they are standing in the crushing scene, it is almost exactly where Grogu stands during the explosion, and in the background, as Din is shooting Gideon right before the explosion you can see what looks like the darksaber, sitting on the ground, where it would be inside the force bubble. And even if it wasn't inside the force bubble, it wouldn't matter. The flash in temperature was severe, but it was not prolonged enough to melt the strongest metal in the galaxy to a point that it would permanently damage the crystal. And even if the crystal is cracked, it can still be made into a lightsaber, as shown by Kylo Ren. In the end, I think that the crystal survives and will be used by Grogu to construct a new lightsaber. What I thought you might be interested in is would this new lightsaber be considered the darksaber. Would it unite the clans again? Would Grogu be seen as a hero for repairing it, and therefore competition for Bo Katan. It’s an absolute disney move to have a horde of mandalorians following around a baby, refusing to leave. Then it raises the question of who the dark saber properly belongs to. Who defeated Moff Gideon? Was it Woves who flew the cruiser, Din, who shot Gideon, or will it be Grogu, who prevented the deaths of the others? Is saving someone's life kind of defeating them, because you have defeated their enemy by saving them. I don't know. Maybe Grogu will use the force to repair it, maybe he will reforge it in the great mines, or maybe the Mythosaur will help him somehow. I can see this becoming a whole thing. Anyways it's very interesting and I think that you should consider it as a possibility. Thought it might be the kind of thought exercise you might enjoy.

Making use of his position as puppet master of both sides to affectively ensure that when the music stops in respect of the clone wars ending, that a lot of worlds that could prove threats to his new empire or possess resources his new empire will need are already occupied by the clones and in no position to resist his rule as emperor once he takes control of the galaxy.
