2 coops cleaned of lionfish today. ~25 pounds of lionfish taken from two coops off of PCB. Fun dive. Only stung once.

GoPro cut off early but all Lionfish were removed from both coops. This was my first Lionfish harvest and despite poor technique and getting stung once it was really fun. The Zookeeper Lionfish dungeon & Neretic pole spear worked great. Look forward to doing it again.

This was my first time getting stung and it really hurt. Kinda like a really bad wasp bite. Heat helps. I'd also try ibuprofen (or similar) and I've been told those Capsacin Salon Pas type patches are also good. Zookeeper has a re-useable heat pack that is helpful also.

Their an invasive species without their natural predators to hunt them. So they have no reason to be afraid. So they just sit still to be shot with a spear.

Uhmmm no,they are very invasive,they are killing lots of other species,they ain't good for the ocean's biodiversity,thus they lay about 2m eggs every year and they don't have much of a predator.This is the best way to control their rapid growth.
@richy5913
@richy5913 5 лет назад
They will not go critically enangered,they are an invasive species that grows rapidly,by eating native coral fish.

I shoot them with pretty much same setup as you, but the trident tip isn't as effective as a longer frogging spear. I find the rigid trident tip can push the lion away. Especially with a head shot. Some of those were pretty big, by the sound of your bubbles depth of 50-80'? I live in the lower keys and still haven't rid us of the ones in 30' yet. Happy hunting!

It is important to know that predators like moray eels and other sharks can also learn to eat these fish and leave them some wounded so that they learn to eat them too, the small ones should be eliminated. important to leave some injured so that other fish get used to eating them

Shooting the cages so many times seems like / is probably making your spear duller! Take it at an angle if you can.. I feel like that’s what I’ve see other spear fisherman do for these guys.. shoot it from the side or something so it goes straight through instead of pinning it to the cage (or whatever those things are)
