30 bucks is a really good deal on one of these players, especially in that condition.👌🏾

Physical music all the way! Wow, that is such a find- bet these are rare in the U.K. I love 8-tracks anyway ( mind you, i like tapes, minidisc, records, CD' s. Nice to own the music you have - no streaming in our house. Your best video for a couple of weeks methinks.

"Nice to own the music you have - no streaming in our house" Same here NO Streaming media here, Physical media = full control, but the global media conglomerates really don't want us "Owning" any physical media and have tried ways to discredit and shame us into getting rid of it by declaring people who collect stuff (records..etc) as Hoarders. Hoarding has officially been declared a mental disorder by the (W H O) World Health Organization. People who have all of their media up in the cloud, or by subscription services can be cut off at any time. May it be because of a political comment on social media that the streaming company disagrees on, or maybe someone who refuses to take the vaccine, these multinational media corporations have unlimited funds and power and can cut you without a moments notice.

When I was about 14 years old, I had a red Dynamite 8 that was in my backpack, while my friends and I were skiing. It was loud enough for all of us, and those around us, to hear. Such great memories and MAGIC to have portable sound! If I didn’t give it to a girlfriend, I’d still have it. I used to make mixtapes for her. Thanks for taking me back and your wonderful history of portable sound!

Yellow was very popular in the 70s. Who could forget the yellow smiley stickers that had the 70s mantra on them, Have a Nice Day???!!!

There's a yellow one on the shelf behind Rose in Season 12 Episode 15/16 of Two and a Half Men... about 20 minutes into the show. (It's the reason I looked up this 8 track player)

Great find, especially in that condition and price. A classmate in high school had a similar sized unit, I don't remember the brand, but it was stereo and had a second speaker of about the same size. Our science class had a field trip to a local small river to do a clean up. He set it up and everybody enjoyed listening to the Beatles and Hendrix while cleaning up trash from the river.

I owned one during my U.S. Army advanced individual training as a radio operator back in '76. Got me through many a study night. It was blue.

Bought one of these in red AND a Sony TC-8 8-track recorder in 1984 at a local church flea market for $1 each. Wish I still had them.

I grew up with cassette, then cd. But my portable cassette players like that, were cheap. I couldn’t afford ones with auto reverse. Some didn’t even have rewind. So when I saw a Portable CD player with an AM/FM radio that’s what I wanted as a teen.

Had one in 1987, bought used...played BUT wouldn't switch tracks. Not that I cared...I enjoyed repeatedly listening to track 1 of The Moody Blues 8-Track "Caught Live + 5" and ZZ Top's "Fandango"!

I bought one of these players for my younger sister when she was in high school and she still has it. It even showed up on a couple of CMT shows she produced when Gaylord still owned it.

Interesting, thanks! I think however you missed Minidisc players that were quite famous in my area in the early 2000's....between CD and MP3s. Cheers!

The reason the mechanism is angled like that to help keep the tape spool 'packed' correctly as the unit plays.

For tech made in the 70s and 80s, Made in Japan is really worth it's weight in gold! I'm amazed at the condition of that almost 50 year old 8 track player!

The sleeper headphones look pretty cool, but I have sleep apnea. I have a BI-PAP (a machine with a long tube and a facemask), which I use every night. It sounds uncomfortable, but it really is not. Actually, if I don't have it on, I can't fall asleep. One thing I would suggest, when you go to see your doctor, tell him or her about your snoring with your mouth open. You might have SA. The doctor might think it wise to have you get a sleep test. Just a thought. One more thing, "Happy record hunting!"

I remember seeing those Panasonic commercials back in the day. I wouldn't understand what they were saying because, ya know, I was only a little kid. But I could make out that 8-track player as well as one of those portable tape recorders (even a mini-cassette recorder, before I would learn about the micro-cassette). We happen to have them and they're both red. The tape recorder has one of the most annoying recording qualities out of other cassette recorders I've heard. I don't know how they work today. Maybe they might, I don't know. The "push" lever on the 8-track player was broken, although I don't know if it was glued back together. But I can remember manually changing programs whenever it would be time to do so. I wonder how you would demonstrate the earbuds as that cartoony character that you once used (and cause negative reactions). Maybe not very well. 😁

I remember my sister having the cassette player I remember those 8-track players was not fond of them I wanted stereo 8-track and more power those were not loud for me and the unit I had was self loading and fully automatic it would open up to form 2 speakers it was heavy without batt but I was able to bring it to school at times to listen with my friends it was the thing to listen to during my time in high school I remember that comercial with Jimmy Walker cause I always watched the show in its heyday ,but I would of chosen the blue color cause I love BLUE! ,but that was a flash into my time in high school wow !like I said before the thrift stores over here stink they do not know what they are selling if it is broken they charge a lot I rarely see what you find in our stores NEVER!!!!! I would probably drop dead if I go to a thrift store and see something like that intact and I will say it again between Record-0-logy and VWestlife you never disapoint THANK-YOU!!!! again JRo

That's cool! But it's not stereo, is it? It looks like it has only one speaker.
@Dr_Reason

Some of the cheap copies only had a mono head so they really did not capture the both halves of the stereo mix.

I actually love thrifting in Denver! I always manage to find things that I don't see where I do live. I think it's just beacuse its a larger more metro area then others. I have one of the competitors to the Panasonic, which is the GE loudmouth. True, it's not quite as slick looking, but it also has a modern flair too, and does everything the Panasonic can do, with the addition of a shoulder strap, and the GE DOES auto advance, the GE might also have been cheaper then the Panasonic too! Even still, a GE loudmouth is still the affordable option on the used market.

I would like to buy one of those sleep headphones but in my case I would like to mask external sounds. You see, I live on an apartment and have some problems like noisy people, machinery, cars, dogs etc. Do you recommend this kind of headphones?

8-Track was LearJet's take on endless loop cartridges originally developed for radio stations. 8-Track was mainly aimed at the automotive market, but portable and home decks were manufactured, as well. A competing format at the time was Muntz's 4 track mono cartridge. LearJet just took the concept and made it 8 track stereo, still only 4 programs, though. I had RCA's oval portable player in a green canvas cover. And I still have a SuperScope Marantz stereo home recorder, and a handful of cartridges.
