What, lol. I literally just purchased this camera a few hours ago. Looked like a heck of a camera for the price. Got a sweet deal too bundling in some lenses.
@@MattsNotes yeah I had a g7 for a month or two, then sold it to fund a big purchase. Been eying the g85 for a while now. I film all my videos on my Pentax so really need to up my video game and get out of that lol.
Actually, it was the g85 I owned before, not the G7. I was deciding between the two and forgot which one I ended up getting. Shows you how long I actually owned it lol
It is tearing me apart. There's no better value for my hobbyist needs but the DFD limitations for video is about to seal the deal. Entry level M43 PDAF with the usual killer features is a EM1 II. If you then want a weather sealed 2.8 zoom it's a €800-1000 base package. G85 with 12-60 3.5 and one prime can be had for about a quarter of that if you shop around. If I were operating it myself all the time DFD is way better than its deservedly mediocre reputation, thousands of GHx shooters can't be wrong though and learned how to use it. But if you need to be in front of the camera as well and leave it on a tripod it'll be a mess. The remote app is great though but you'll need to monitor it constantly (and I'm not even sure it'll connect wifi while recording). ///////////////////// ANYWAY :) My 1-year review: it is perfect. Menus and buttons and ergonomics as well. Video and photo quality is fantastic. Audio input through mic jack is clean enough. It's not usable for indoor/low light sport and action nor for kids and pets whirling around. The M43 lens range is spectacular value for money, Olympus 1.8 primes in particular, those tiny beasts. If you need 2-3 stops or more indoors and in low light in general figure out 1) a flash and/or LED solution. 2) noise reduction in editing. I'm only flipping it because I need a single camera setup with the same base features - IBIS, weather sealing (preferably), mic jack, flip lcd, EVF, grip, touchscreen, focus peaking and magnify, clean HDMI - plus PDAF, tethering and webcam by USB and without 30 minutes rec. limit (I'm in EU with a G80). As mentioned above that's at least €1000 with a 2.8 zoom in M43, ideally you'd want a newer body with handheld hi rez and more magic, then you're into €2000 segment at least. Which is way too much for my budget and needs vs. cheaper alternatives. And I'll happily sit this one out until used kits reaches my budget in a year or two. ///////// sorry for all the words, couldn't stop apparently. Love the channel and your style and take on tech, keep it coming. Happy new year from Denmark.
@@MattsNotes thank you..I'm humbled and appreciate your comments. I have a lot of ideas and ways I want to grow my channel but just hampered by self doubt. Sometimes I get explosions of ideas and I implement them quickly and easily and other times I just feel overwhelmed with self doubt. I appreciate your kind comment and thank you again.
