The GX80 is a lot more expensive than you're saying. It's not at 200 dollars anywhere. It's 340 dollars used on most markets, some spots for the GX85 is at 380 used. Also brand new it's 700 dollars on Amazon. I really think you must've been looking at a different camera to say it's 350 dollars new. That's just not the case.

Where I live you often can grab one for 200 bucks on the used market, I can't speak for other markets of course. I got my GX80 body for 160€ from Amazon Warehouse. I have to admit, you only get the camera new at 370€ without VAT, that was a mistake I just realized, but it's not impossible to get the GX80 for a very low price. The point is that those 2 cameras are comparable in price, with the GX80 being a bit more pricy.

@@TheBudgetFilmmaker Interesting. It could be due to me being in the US, and the Gx85 has some notable upside over the Gx80, given it has no record limit whatsoever (due to no EU regulations), and 4k videos are stored as one file up to 96 GB. This might be why there isn't a single option under 300 dollars used on the market online. The Gx85 is actually up to 440 USD on some sites, whereas the Gh2 is much cheaper for US options (comparable to the G7). So perhaps the truth is somewhere in between what we're saying for the Gx80.

Yes there are some usability differences, maybe it's that. Market differences are also not uncommon, so we are probably both right.

Sometimes looking in your own backyard is a great place to start(OfferUp,FB,etc) I really lucked out and picked up a GX80 with the pancake kit lens and the 45-150mm for $140. All because the lady (10minutes away) said she simply didn’t wanna figure out how to use it and just let it collect dust. Hope someone else out there can find a solid kit like that to get going!

ibis in gx85 is a game changer for many with manual vintage lenses. thou Gh1 and Gh2 are still pretty stunning compared IQ wise.. BTW. a proper comparison - that's how comparisons between two cameras should be made - seriously. Not many or ANY at this level of details on youtube. Seriously great work!

Very cool comparison. Amazing the GH2 holds up to a camera 5 years newer. I had a gx80 and I currently have the GH2. I prefer the GH2 primarily due to the larger sensor with my M43 lenses, mic input, and flip-out screen.

Yes, for an all-around production the GH2 is the better tool. The GX80 is more of a light travel companion.

Keep it up Joe! I use a gh3. I'm into the gh2. We are both into using old gear!!

Wow! Thank you! The #1 camera I recommend to anyone on a budget is the GX85 (and have owned 4, and still use one myself) because of a few main things: 1. The IBIS (from my perspective it's a real "game changer") 2. The 4K and sharpness (I even use it with an Atomos Ninja 2 1080p recorder and when set to 4k it downsamples on the fly AND THE RESULTANT IMAGE IS SUPER DUPER SHARP!) 3. The price (I've found it for around $250 - 350 US, and I consider it a much better buy than the G7, which I also have, but only use in the studio DUE TO THE LACK OF I.B.I.S.) Thank you for bringing back a CLASSIC (the GH2) and comparing to my current #1 favorite budget camera (the GX85)!😃

Thanks for your response, the GX80/85 is definitely a gem! I'm also glad you like the comparison, for me it just makes sense since many people might want to check out both because of their price. I have made a Rig to use the GX80 with XLR with the Ninja V. Maybe I should do a video on it if some are interested. 🙂

@@TheBudgetFilmmaker I just subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago, and I really like the content and cameras you're featuring! I used to be a photographer (shooting Canon, then Nikon, then Canon again, etc.) but then I used a Panasonic M43 camera and the VIDEO quality was much MUCH better than the others! I started with a G5 (not the GH5) then tried a GH2, G3 and GX1 too (because of a low budget) and then when I got a GX85, I knew the story was over; it was good...good enough for pro work, yet at a low cost. Then I got a 2nd GX85, then a 3rd, then a G85, and finally a G7 (for "static" studio work only, due to lack of IBIS). I use a rig and mount 2, or even 3 cameras on ONE tripod, and then use the 4th camera (either on a fluid head or handheld.) I use an Atomos recorder (with an HDMI switcher) to back up whatever video channel is currently live. I switch using a remote control. My RU-vid channel and my website have more details😃.

i think i prefer the gh2. Besides from all her drawbacks the colorscience is really awesome and in the end it's more important than sharpness imo
@TheBudgetFilmmaker
@TheBudgetFilmmaker 3 года назад
Yes, the color science is great on the GH2. It delivers quite some punch for it's super low price.

I have a hacked gh2 its shoot 720p at 150mbits and 1080 at 160mbits and image is solid even if you upscale to 4k...it does not fall apart do the upscale test
@TheBudgetFilmmaker
@TheBudgetFilmmaker 3 года назад
Well this is a hacked GH2 and when you underexpose too much, which I did on purpose to see how much can be recovered, the footage will break at some point. Some cameras fall apart later which indicates a higher dynamic range. This test simply shows where the breaking point is. If exposed correctly the GH2 is certainly able to capture super sturdy footage for heavy grading. But it doesn't handle over- and underexposure that well.

@@TheBudgetFilmmaker Good to know...I used to spend hours grading a couple of GH2s (to make them match) and it's good to hear that I wasn't THAT bad of a colorist.
@TheBudgetFilmmaker
@TheBudgetFilmmaker 3 года назад
@@silverlightphotoco Yeah that's the problem with older sensors. You need to match them very closely. But if you get it right on set the image is gorgeous. If the color info isn't there, then the color info just isn't there.
@silverlightphotoco

@@TheBudgetFilmmaker Interesting! I noticed each lens rendered the contrast/dynamic range differently, and of course the color as well, and I had to create a LUT for EACH COMBINATION and I'm now creating a database of "Lens-Sensor LUTs" and am putting them on my website if you want to see!😃 www.silverlightphotoco.com/luts
