Great video! i just want to say this is weather sealed. I took this out in the rain for about an hour at a protest with an old pentax lens it still survived and i got alot of great shots too.
One of my fav cameras to date. I use it with my Ronin RSC2 and put the mode dial to the video Manual setting (which also gives access to Cine-D and Cine-V color profiles)
They could have made the GX8 one of the best MFT camera's out there for except 3 things: - Low pas filter - 5 axis img stabilisation for video (no stabilisation in video) - no external monitor working when recording video (it does work except when you press the record button)
I've watched for 3 minutes you going from one side to the other. Sorry but I have to go due to dizziness and will have to wonder what you have to say about the GX8.
1st, a question. As we are roughly shooting the same things, have you ever made pictures at endurance races? I've bought the E-M1.1 at the beginning of lockdown, but not really had much opportunity to use it. I used it to film rowers (had to lend the G6 out to a team member who has no camera of his own), but the video algorithms are quite shit. The autofocus was better than expected in that case though. But, because of the lack of willingness to focus on high ISO of the Olympus I've been getting a bit of remorse though. Especially since events using a flash are an important place to use it when these happen again. That's how I got to this video. I can really recommend you the Panasonic 45-175 powerzoom too. The powerzoom can give a nice effect when tracking objects that are moving away or towards just that little bit too quickly. Some poeple hate it, but the constant speed gives you that little bit more time of your subject in view in video.
Thanks for the video! I've spent a looot of time searching for my text camera, and I really think this is the one. But of course I can't find it anywhere on the market... :( Does anybody know where I could buy it? If not, could someone recommend me a camera with similar features ? (gx9 is not an option because of the screen and because it's not weather-sealed)
I would appreciate a direct comparison with the M1 ii as I am between that and the gx8 to replace my G6.. thanks for the video and your thoughts on the gx8
new sub here thanks for the video. I picked up the GX85 about 3 months ago but I am thinking of upgrading to the gx8. I want the flip screen and mic jack thanks for letting me know it was a 2.5 I can order the cable ahead of time!
great info thanks, incidentally looked for MFTs with smaller bodies than the APS-C ones, maybe the weather sealing adds bulk here, lenses do seem smaller though, probably generally lighter. Gonna look for one and give it a quick spin before buying a APS-C Sony or Canon. btw: show us that world photo contender please, not that you mention it :)
Love my GX8. Bought used in silver livery. Panasonic still sell it new in blk only for around $1100 USD. Your switching back and forth is irritating. Goodbye I won't subscribe...
I’m struggling to find out what camera lens I can buy for this camera. I don’t know what to search for when it comes to what lens could connect to these. Can you help me out with the proper way to word it in my search bar?
Hi Ian. Thanks for the video. I have this camera since 2019 as I really like its ergonomics, but I have barely used it as I feel I am not really mastering it so I end up using my DSLR instead. My main issues are with the focusing and with the shutter lag. Example if I take a photo of someone who is moving (example clapping) or an animal, there is a lag from the moment I press the shutter to the moment the photo is taken which makes me miss the moment or records a blurred movement. Am I missing something, is there any trick or technique to master this issue? Also the colours seem either fad or unatural, do you have a particular setting you would recomend? Thanks for your response. Regards Daniel
I find the colors produced by my two GX8 cameras are very pleasing. Check the settings. Shutter lag is nonexistent; I use mostly the silent shutter (non-mechanical) mode.
Surprisingly well on the picture and video front to be honest. Function and handling wise does not come close for me but as a second camera its works well.
