I just picked up this camera for $900AUD ($650USD) in perfect condition (no lens) and it's blown me away! I'm only just learning so it's hugely overkill but wow! OMG awesome explanation. Just invested in a MINT GH5s for my video work. I was trying to max out the capabilities of my e-m1's mark II and III, but poor things were not designed as video cameras from the ground up like this GH5s... thank you for this helpful info.
I own a few recent Sony cameras but my GH5S, I must admit, I love using the most. There is something about the Panasonic user experience that appeals to me.
Just a heads up about the Netflix approved statement. The BGH1 is netflix approved. I saw a third party site listing the GH5S as well, which may have been incorrect. Either way, the GH5S is basically the same camera as the BGH1 internally and is a great camera! :) Video chapters are in the description.
Hey Shawn Best Tutorial ever on GH5s...definitely an underrated camera specially with braw prores raw recording now availed over Ninja V or Blackmagic video assist. Just personaly the price of GH5s body used is at least here the same with an almost brand new S5...my question is S5 vs GH5s...which one you like more... I use S5 with recorder to have maximal image quality specially braw 5.9K to match with my other Blackmagic camera. I am still very unsure about GH6...maybe I will wait what kind of new camera will Blackmagic put out in next 6 month for now combo S5 used Ninja V killes everycamera at this price...GH5s is second best
Thanks mate (it's Shane by the way haha). The S5 is a great camera but if you need something with unlimited recording and low rolling shutter the GH5S is awesome. I like the full size HDMI on the GH5S for doing videos like this where I have a switcher connected.
Thanks for such refreshing tutorial on a legendary camera. Pls do share how you expose and grade Vlog-L on GH5s and compare it with HLG for bright and low light conditions.

i have a couple of their G9's and want to try their s-line series. which 2nd gen camera do you think their going to release first in that lineup. The s5 sales be looking so tempting 😢
The S Series is a great line of cameras. I actually have a bunch of the S5's here and they perform really well. If you're a hybrid shooter, they are excellent value.

Perhaps one of your viewers can help me. Just received my GH9II today. Hooked up my new OSEE T7 External monitor. All works fine. But...I can no longer see any menu display items on the camera display. Even with the OSEE turned off, I see the image on the display, but no information. Have pressed the DISP button numerous times, nothing. Just the view through the lens. I'm 70 so some of this is a bit harder for me. Thanks to anyone with a suggestion. Jim
Man ive been using this camera for years and i wish id found this video when I brought it. I am thinking of upgrading but I was filming an event this weekend with a few sony cameras at a similar price range and I am now thinking of sticking with this and when I do upgrade this year sticking with Pannasonic, id love to know what camera you recommend as an upgrade for the GH5S, probably $3000 budget kind of range?!

The ZVE10 is a good basic camera and most people buy it for the autofocus which is a lot better than both of these Panasonic cameras. The GH5S is my favourite for studio work (tripod) and the GH5II is a great all rounder but the image out of the GH5S is superior in most lighting conditions. I compared the GH5II against the A7C and I think minus the background blur differences the Panasonic killed the Sony. If you need IBIS the GH5II is the best choice. The S will give you better low light and a more premium image without the IBIS. Just make sure you get a lens now slower than 2.8 and the results will be great. Again the Sony has the better autofocus but horrible IBIS and rolling shutter. I hope this helps.
Not sure whether it actually is but its the same internals in a different body. Also doesnt really matter because youre most likely not shooting for netflix, and if you were, youd get Budget from them.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy it may be that because the timecode is implemented via the flash sync port, they dont allow it on netflix officially, but really, doesnt matter if youre not paid by them.
QUESTION GEEKY NERDY TECHY? On High Quality Bit Rate Long Run VIDEO'S...DO Either GH5 Or Olympus EM-1 MKII Video FILES Get Split Up Into Multi Piece Bits? IF One Does But The Other Doesn't ..PLEASE Tell Me Which One Does & Which Does NOT? Or IF Both DO? I'M Of Course Wanting One That Just Spits OUT One Big FILE & Not a TON Of Multiple Small 2GB FILES That Needs Special Software Stitching Together? THANK YOU🙂
The Panasonic can record indefinitely up to (96gb on some cards) before splitting the file and the OM-D MK II will split it every 4gb. If you get a Panasonic GH5S, GH5, GH5II, or GH6, they all create one big file.

@@GeekyNerdyTechy no worries. After I commented I did confirm they meant the bgh1 just because it has a stop or so more dynamic range over the gh5s even though it’s the same sensor. Who knows how they pulled it off lol In any case thanks for making this video! I am a primary Bs1h & s1h shooter and the gh5s has become my great little c cam even over my s1. Since at first I didn’t really think I’d like it over my s1, I didn’t take the time to learn it. But your video came out just in time! I’m shooting a conference next week and the gh5s is definitely going to make an appearance!
If you had to go with the GH5s or FX3, which would you choose? I currently have both but I’m really biased to the GH5s because it has served me well for so long but I love the form factor of the FX3 and the ability to charge via usb-c has saved me a great deal also, that full frame dynamic range is magnificent
I actually have both. The FX3 is a great camera but it's way overpriced. The GH5S is so much more fun to use and looks great in any shooting scenario I've used it in. If you want the phase detection AF, the Sony wins hands down. The Sony also has 4k120 which is my favorite thing about the FX3. The resolution on slow motion is unreal. The Panasonic has higher resolutions (DCI-4K) and is a lot better in terms of handling and cost.

It's the BGH1. For some reason one of the sites listed the GH5S which was EU approved for production, but not Netflix. I pinned that at the top of the comments :)
M means manual mode on the camera. If you are new set it to A and see how it goes. There's also a M on the back of the camera which stands for manual focus.

It seems like nobody told you Micro Four Thirds is dead, and those cameras are good for absolutely nothing ? This tiny little sensor can't do anything descent these days man, don't you listen to youtubers that have millions of subsribers ? lol just joking, the GH5S is an absolute keeper. I often use it for gimbal work, the power to weight ratio of this thing is unbeatable when paired with the Laowa 7.5mm or some other primes (lumix 15mm 1.7, olympus 25mm f1.8... ).
🤣 hahaha awesome comment. I was like "oh man, not one of these guys" lol. Most RU-vidrs sit at home chatting tech and repeating what a lot of other guys say in videos. The GH5S is a monster of a camera. I recently compared it on the channel with the FX3 it held it's own :)
