Hey mate, great video, Just got the s9 to go with my s5IIX as a b camera. Busted out my BMD Video Assist and cant seem to get a clean HDMI out. Is this feature not on the s9 at the moment or am I tripping?
@@GeekyNerdyTechy awesome thanks for that all sorted. that should sort my recording time restrictions. I’ll pester lumix for that RAw unlock in a future update
Thank you for the great guide and tutorial,. I just unboxed my S9 and you are making the first few outings much easier than if I resorted to trial and error. Confirms I made the right choice. thanks again.
You are the most trusted guy in the business. That's why you're number one. I always wait anticipation for the next new exciting product introduction by you. What will it be, hmmm 😮
Who knows if you get C1 - C2 - C3, while in video...but then if you turn the camera to stills mode, you get ANOTHER set of different C1 - C2 - C3, for photo... ?!
Excellent video! One thing I haven't seen anyone comment on is if the S9 overheats easily when using external recorder or capture card without internal recording. I am thinking about ditching my x-s10 and picking up a S9 as my second camera (to my s5ii) but since I use the x-s10 as my overheard camera as well I need to know if the S9 can do that without issues (30 minutes at 4k hdmi out would be plenty for my use case).
I'm the only one to get surprised that around 36:30, he said the S9 and the S5 mark 2 have contrast-detect AF? Because Panasonic has used Phase detect AF since the S5 mark 2, that is a while now. And for the people who live by arguing with everyone yes of course Panasonic still uses contrast-detect AF but it's a hybrid system with phase detection, like every other brand. And if you want to be totally honest Panasonic has the most advanced, precise, and fast contrast detect Af of all.
Thanks so much for this. Just bought the S9 and going to give it a shot. Had the S5II, and it was great, but size wise this fit better for me. What lens do you recommend for the S9, however? I’m just a barber that takes stills of my haircuts and video social media content, as well. Not a professional camera person at all. I would love your recommendations. Thanks!
I would say start with the 20-60mm kit lens, it's such a great value addition to the S9. That or the 35mm F1.8 or the 50mm F1.8 if you need a prime. 35 + 50mm are very versatile and the results will look great.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Thank you so much for this reply. You’re one of the few that actually reply back. Thank you. Last question, I’m watching other videos, and I don’t know if I’m mistaken, but does the S9 only have a run time of 15 min?
@@creamthebarber Yes, there's recording limits in all modes so it doesn't overheat. 6K open gate is 10 mins, all 4K modes 15 mins and 1080p (most) 20 mins.
Hi. I know this will probably get lost in the comments but I just wanted to say something without hating like all those people do. I am sad to see all that hate coming from gerald undone 's video. I believe you are a great person and I really love your videos. Correct comparisons/reviews and no things hidden.Tutorials that most people wont bother doing but that shows the reap knowledge. I started watching your channel with the release of the lumix s5iix and I remember seeing your joy on every video you did about it. And then I subscribed because it looked authentic and not biased from a long time ago. I was in the army and had like one gb of internet left and I spent it to watch your new video back then. Thats what I like about your channel. I also really like the way you color grade your videos they look awesome and that tells the skill level you have compared to other people that do reviews without showing any of their work. I have seen more than half of your videos really. Yeah because the list always goes on I would like to say that people like you should get more recognition instead of hate. I would like to meet you in person(thats unlikely because I leave in greece) and become like you one day😊 I hope you keep up the good work and dont worry about pretenders because the truth always comes to the top.
Thanks, mate, I appreciate it. It's all good. This sort of "look at me I'm special" videos come and go. I've been making videos for 14 years or so on my other channel and the longevity comes from sticking to your ethics and morals. I've seen it all before and this is nothing new. Gerald throwing people under the bus who have been doing this for years was uncalled for, and if a company decides not to fly someone out, it's up to them. 😂 Cheers man, I appreciate the kind words.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy well we should name things as they are. Now as you have personally used most of the lumix cameras I consider to buy I would like to ask a gear question but I believe its going to require a bit of talk for a responce on a youtube comment. Is there another way of contacting you? Do yoy have some spare minutes?
So the Synchro scan is ONLY for videos not stills. Makes sense but at least one of the RU-vidrs implied this can be used in general. Thanks for doing the walk by walk of the menu. I really want to like this camera but lack of some form of mechanical shutter presents to me issues for photographing events in artificial light or street night photography as the risk of banding in moderate to faster shutter speeds seems high.
Hi how do you move from C1 photo to C1 video - on my Sony I switch with a separate photo/video dial, I cant see that dial, do you have to switch in the menu
Does the S9 have the in camera tricks Panasonic has outfitted their more recent cameras with, (Looking for Sequence Composition, 4K photo, Post focus stacking, double exposure)
It has most of the photographic features of the S5II. I will need to check and get back to you. I know the S5II had some different modes to the GH5 II for example.
If you want to save a custom photo mode, you need to set it up the way you want it before it's stored to the camera. If this isn't what you're asking just let me know :)
@@GeekyNerdyTechy on my Sony, the C-number has a photo and video setting, so you flip the dial from photo to video then the C number you want. Does the S9 work the same way, I can't see a photo/video dial/switch.
Does the S9 have the same connection abilities to Adobe Camera to Cloud? That seems like a more automatic connection with the phone in the back pocket. How does that compare to the Lumix Lab App? Is there a Adobe Cloud App where images could be seen but already in the cloud? Not sure if that's clear...
This is designed to work with the LUMIX Lab app to get stuff on Instagram and TickTok etc - I can't see any Adobe stuff in this camera which is not surprising given who this is aimed at. Sorry it took a while to reply, I had to go through the menu.
@@wuming9151 I don't see it in the menu on mine. It has some asian languages, it looks like Chinese, Japanese and something else (possibly Thai) as the languages are not written in english.
I might do a video about this coming up. They are two totally different cameras. The G9II has more recording and photographic modes than this camera, but it's an M43 camera, whereas this is a full-frame Camera. The S9 has many restrictions and time limits, whereas the G9II has none.
No, the G9ii has a bigger body (same as the S5ii with an EVF) and the sensor is different. The G9ii has a smalelr sensor, BUT does not change the crop when changing the frame rates like in the S5ii. You can select up to 120fps in 4K with no crop and is downsampled from 5.7K which is really sharp. The dynamic range though is about a 1 stop less. And the low light on the G9ii isn't as good. I would say up to 2500 ISO is clean on the G9ii where as I'm noticing the S5ii is clean up to 6400 ISO and 12,800 ISO is super usable, especially in the 6K Open Gate mode. The G9ii has better IBIS without needing to incurr a massive crop, whereas the S9's IBIS is better when using IBIS + Active Stabilization High which gives an additional 1.4x crop.
The G9 II has a very good grip, a viewfinder, a mechanical shutter, is not limited to 10 minutes of video recording, has a lot more button + a joystick, 4K 120fps 60fps without crop, less rolling shutter, Raw video hdmi output, better IBIS... The G9 II is a very complete camera for photo and video !!!
