Just wanted to say thanks for the great video!! My TH-50PZ800U came down with the identical symptoms, and I was able to perform the repair here and fix it. For anyone else attempting, just wanted to HIGHLY recommend that you buy the capacitors norcal715 uses in the video, with the circular padded leads, as opposed to the wire axial leads. I used the latter and soldering them to the chips was the most difficult part of the process by far but thankfully i was able to get it to work.

My Panasonic TH-50PZ85U gave me the 10 blink code about a week ago. I followed your step by step instructions and everything went smoothly. My TV is back up and working again! . A few TV repair techs quoted me $250-$500. I ended up spending a total of $14. Thank you for creating this great video!

Wow! Thank God for you man! I did not test or remove any boards. I did as you said and put a resistor accross those 2 wires to be sure there was No High Voltage present. All I had to do was locate those 2 tiny capacitors and unsolder them and replaced them with 2 little 50V 1uF caps (Noteing that Neg leg was to the top.) and Bingo! The set works perfectly again! I can't thank you enough! You can stop in for a cold beer any time my friend! Thanks again! Jamey

I just finished this repair for a coworker's TV. It was a fun project. Thanks for the video! I ended up masking off the pins on the little boards with kapton tape and hitting them with the heat gun from my rework station to remove them. In fact, I did the same thing to remove the ICs as well.

If you would like to test your small hybrid board (on the bench, not in the main board) with the TEA1611 chip on it, First: **"If you do this, you do so at your own risk."** Remove the small vertical hybrid board from the main board. Locate pin 14 of the small hybrid board using the legend on the main board. Count back to pin 12, this is + or positive. Pin 9 is - or negative. The small hybrid board will need 12 Volts from a current limited supply for the test. Connect your oscilloscope common to the negative, and the probe tip to Pin 7, this pin (7) will have a 45kHz square wave on it. If this signal is present, your hybrid is working.

Thanks for posting this video, it has saved me from having to throw my Panasonic Plasma away! It started doing the 10 blinks after 3 clicks. I contacted Panasonic Australia and they told me that the 704 board is no longer produced. I tested the problem using the freeze spray and confirmed which IC was the problem. I ended up buying the IC from EBAY and the first one they sent me was faulty but the second one worked fine. A bit fiddly to take the 704 board off the TV and desolder/solder the IC but it's better than having to buy a new TV.
@kaikienke

These IC's were incredibly difficult to un-solder without ripping off the contacts from the board... It all looked so easy on your 100x magnified video, but somehow I succeded! Thanks for saving my TV :)

Well after much research and watching/ reading what I could find about the dreaded 10 blinks. I ruled out other items. And after reading something in the comments here got me thinking. I decided to take the path of least resistance here I think. I did not try the freeze test although this was on my list to try if this didn't work. However what I did ultimately was to simply remove the extremely tiny caps next to the IC's. On both MC201 and MC301. PRESTO working TV. Just that simply. I have ordered replacement caps and will attempt to solder new ones in place. Thank you to each and everyone who made comments and contributed this this topic. The INTERNET is a wild and wonderful place if you know where to look. Keep up the great work.

I have the same TV, and although it still works great, I'm wouldn't be surprised that it will quit soon because of the same problem. I have worked on TVs for over 30 years, but have always had trouble soldering very small surface mounts such as in the video, without damaging the ckt board. I'm in my 60s, and my eyesight just isn't good enough to do such small soldering. I must say the person in the video has a very steady hand and good soldering skills for surface mount components. Thanks

Thanks for posting! I was sweating I'd have to replace the whole power supply. I didn't even need to swap the IC (which would have been a pain to track down a seller for). I swapped out the tiny cap for a 1uF 50v electrolytic from Radio Shack for a whopping $1 and I'm back in business!

My TH-C46fD18 had 10 blink code . I Did the cold test and it passed . I just replaced the small de -coupler Cap as mentioned in the comments below by Gary Spencser. I went to Fry's and bought the 1 uf 50v Non polarized Electrolytic Capacitors 79 cents each they are bigger and easier to hold and after 3 days so far so good. I left the IC board on the main board. I might add that you need a steady hand, good light, good magnifier glass and a pencil point soldiering iron. It is by far NOT as easy as Nocal715 makes it look he is a real pro. Thanks for the great video

I've fixed over 30 of these over the years. The IC's never fail. It's only the small caps. You have to remove the old ones, not just tack the new one over the old. The caps start to conduct, or leak, loading down the circuit. I've never had to replace the IC.

Thanks for your reply Garry. The model number is TH50PZ80BA. As stated in my post no amount of freeze spray will activate the psu it just continues with the 2 blink fault code. The 15v does appear for a fraction of a second on pin 1 of P7. I am wondering if in this case the D board is at fault ( giving wrong diagnostic). The training manual states that if 15v is not present on pin 1 of P7 the fault lies with the P board. If 15v is present on pin 1 of P7 the fault lies with the D board. In this case the 15v is present but switches off almost immediately.

I have this problem and first relaced the three capacitors on the Y-SUS (900uf 220v) as they were swollen. I then replaced the two TEA1611T chips and 1uf 50v capacitors as shown in your clip. Sadly there's no change which is typically my bad luck as this fault seems so common on this model. I have tripple checked my soldering and all looks fine, I did take antstatic precautions whild handling the chips. Any other ideas would be welcom. I have considered removing the Y-SUS connector to see if the voltage on the PSU comes up. Thanks, Dave.

Hi I have a TH50PZ850AZ with a 13 blink code, you hear 2 relay click the power light flash green then goes solid green then the TV turns off and blinks red 13 times till you press the power switch. This happen after the the power went off and the ups was under rated to run the system, the TVNZ was trying to start but couldn't, I unplug the TVNZ as quick as I could but not soon enough as it appears. I did find a post about unplugging A52 but can't find that plug, found A51 and A52 though.

HI thanks for the great demo. My TH-50PZ800U will not start when I click the power button either on TV or remote. There is no light no blink at all. This happened when I just replace my Verizon router and then noticed that the TV set top box power button blinking itself without me starting it. Disconnect the TV box and tried again using TV remote or power button on TV, There is not life sign at all. Can you think of a possible cause of this? Do I need a now power board? Thanks for advise. Thanks for the wonderful video and explanation. here is my 2 cents and experience. I stay in an apartment and have no garage to repair the tv. If can do it so can any of you, this was my first soldering experience and i was very doubtful and fidgety, but the video was of great help and the tv is now working, i just replaced the caps. also since no garage i did with the whole tv set on my mattress and did not remove any boards from anywhere, in place. it was kind of hard definitely recommend a magnifying glass. replaced with a 1uf 50v from frys, and did not replace the ic. things in the video look bigger than they actually are in real life. i did not expect such a small cap, my repcaement cap was much bigger ;)... removing it was kinda hard but the putting in the new cap was even harder. but definitely it can be done.

I have this problem with my TV. I'm going to attempt the repair but was wondering about the 10W resistor load that is used to discharge the big capacitors. When do you discharge the capacitors? I'm confused because he does it at the end of the job. I would have thought you do it before you start working on it...

Great tutorial, I am new to TV repair and my first is a 2004 Pioneer PDP-504CMX with a shutdown green light sequence of 8. When turning on with the back panel off, I can hear a quick double click, a red & green light on the digital video Assembly board, a hum, fans start and stop, and then another click (sounds like a relay), but then the Plasma goes into shutdown with the 8 green blinks. Can you help me locate the problem. I have the technical manuals and will receive an Ebay remote in the mail shortly, what I cannot find is an inexpensive ARP3242 manual (schematics). Thank you for all of you help. Jerry

Hi, Thank you for posting this video. I took my TH-C50FD18 to the shop today. It has the 10 blink code. They said $65 to examine it, and that would be applied to the repair cost. If they say $400 to fix it, I think that is too much considering the price and quality I can get with a new TV these days. Do you have advice for someone who does not have equipment to solider this small piece an fix it. Is it possible for a novice to simply replace the whole board, or is that too advanced? If so, what is the part number. Thanks. Van.

Hi, I'm hoping you can help. I was given a tv from a friend here in the UK. They must have watched your video and removed a capacitor from the MC301 driver board. However, this power supply is a ETX2MM681F / 681M The Thermal fuse under T201 had blown. I found a manual but it doesn't give the driver board circuit. I removed the same cap from the MC201 and it measures 220 nf. It connects to the TEA1610T pin 9 (signal ground) Is should the cap be 220nf? 50volt? Many thanks in advance john

Mark, Did you try changing video input sources ? Is there any indication of the OSD (On Screen Display) ? The On Screen Display are the small display panels that pop up when you change input source, display MENU, etc. If there is no OSD, the problem is most likely the "D Board" since you do not get any SOS blinking error codes. You can download the service manual from the link below: elektrotanya.com/panasonic_th-50py80pa_50pz80ba_ea_gpf11de_chassis_sm.pdf/download.html When at this site, you have to wait until the notice changes to Get Manual - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This file is downloadable free of charge: Get Manual

Dude, you're stupid good at surface mount soldering. You make it look so easy AND you have a camera blocking most of what you are working on. Would you be able to post some soldering tutorials for us or maybe just some things we can practice to get better? Keep up the good work.

What wattage is your iron? Or, if you have an adjustable unit, what it is set at? I don't want to mess up the tiny board or any of the mini components on it. I am about to attempt this on a Vizio VP504. No blink code, just the VIZIO led lighting up to orange and staying that way. I have read that others have had success with this repair on this unit with these symptoms.

I had this issue a couple years ago, and I'd drilled down to the MC module (took me about a month off and on to troubleshoot it). I replaced the ceramic cap with an identical cap, and the TV's been running fine since then.

Can you buy the mc301 board with the new chip on it already?

I have a TH46PZ85UA with the 704MGL power board, and having 10 blinks before the power button. I did the "chill" test on 301 and it started up. If that means the 15V was the problem, can I just fix the 301 board? or, do I still have to do both?

Hi norcal715!! What kind of soldering tool do you use in this video? Do you use the electrical one, the gas one or the rework one with hot air??? Thanks!!!

Great video but I need some advise. I have a Panasonic TH-42PZ85U and when I plug it in it passes the 15 volt test with 2 quick clicks followed by 1 click. When I then turn it on it comes on for about 5 - 10 secs and turns off as the power LED blinks 11 times. What could be the issue you think? Really appreciate any help, thanks!

I found this info, do you agree with this? 11 Blinks SOS: The ventilation fans are monitored for proper operation. If one of the fans opens or increases resistance, the resulting current change is applied to pin 61 of the main CPU. This triggers the Fan SOS and the TV shuts down. The power LED blinks 11 times. To prevent the TV from shutting down when one of the fans is disconnected, a jumper should be placed between pin 2 and pin 3 of the missing fan connector. Thanks for this tutorial, it helped me getting the tv going again (without the back cover). I've read somewhere else on the net that just removing the capacitors will fix the issue. Can you comment on how this might work? Or if it is unwise to do so?

I've been successful with removing the decoupling capacitor 4 or 5 weeks ago and my plasma TV (Panasonic TH-46PZ85U) is working perfectly so far. This is just a temporary experiment. I plan on installing a 0.22uF cap very soon to complete the repair. Someone claims that this original failing capacitor is a 1.0uF electrolytic. The capacitor package size is far too small to be a 1.0uF cap. It is possible to remove and install the capacitor at this location (MC301 board) without actually removing the small board from the main power supply board. Therefore, I recommend replacing the capacitor with a 50V, 0.22uF ceramic. The job will go much better if you obtain a large magnifying glass to properly visualize the soldering process ! ! ! Good Luck, G.S.

i just replaced the IC on the one board with no improvement, however both original and new IC when chilled will allow the TV to power up. Those surface mount capacitor(s) should be replaced next?

So, I installed two new capacitors and the tv turned on with no problems at all. While basking in my glory it obviously had to make a clicking noise and turn itself off. I unplugged it and then plugged it back in and now gives me three clicks and then ten blinks again. I took a closer look at my newly installed caps and notice that the positive side on the mc201 came unsoldered. Did I just fry this whole tv or should I try again with new caps?

Figured it out. One of my caps was reversed polarity. I know. Newbie mistake. Learned my lesson, now it is working perfect. Got the 42" panasonic for free and only spent $3 to fix it. So I feel like a winner

Norcal, I have the 2 blink red led on TH-50PF11UK....if I press and hold power for 10 seconds, TV will turn on and operate, until shut down and attempted to turn back on. Also, unplugged HDMI, power, and swapped cable box from input 2b to 2a, which allowed TV to operate as normal for one day, and now back to the 2 blink red LED....any thoughts as to board failure this issue this replicates? Thanks in advance!
