This was a great video, and this channel is awesome and Dave is really funny, but here is some constructive criticism. I think instead of smashing non-working cameras you should try to donate them to someone if they pay the shipping costs. You might even have multiple viewers wanting it so you could sort of make an auction and make some money to support the channel. Maybe start a Facebook group or Discord server. If it's broken and you can't get anyone to take disposing of it would be fine. Of course there is limited storage space at your studio/etc and you just got to get rid of junk once in a while. I feel like someone (maybe even me) could have gotten this one working. If the tube was completely dead I could see smashing it, but it just seemed like there was a fault in the VCR circuit which might have been fixed with a service manual. Could have just been a dirty mode switch, or It would have been fun to open it up and probe signals and voltages to see what was going wrong. I am aware you aren't familiar with repair and working on electronics. 12voltvids is probably the best channel on RU-vid for retro electronic repair, I've learned a lot from him. And if even if it's beyond repair like those crappy Handycams from the 90s, it could be a cool display piece for someone. Like my Sony SLO-340 has been completely dead for over a year and I haven't trashed it. I'd definitely destroy something if it was just completey screwed. Like I had a BMC-220 with a dead tube, and a bunch of cracked plastic pieces already. I smashed that one and salvaging the belts using the circuit boards for soldering practice.
Hey Kyle, I suspected crushing a camera would build up some drama, like will I or won't I smash a given camera. Somewhat like a gameshow, right?!?! Well..."The internet" has spoken and I have since ended the crusher's reign of terror on my non working gear. Thanks for the suggestions.
@@davesretrovideolab2709 Thanks man. I'm willing to take any non working junk you've got and pay shipping. I just bought a used Canon VM-E1 and it's completely dead. But it's not going to be smashed. I suspected the fuse on it is blown (I'm verified with another person it has a fuse) so I'm going to replace the fuse and hopefully fix it. A much better alternative than creating more e-waste. Thanks again you're channel in great. I have a soldering iron and all the tools really needed to fix these old machines. Check out the 12voltvids channel.
Hello, I discovered your channel a few days ago through this video. I'm Brazilian and recently I bought this same Panasonic PV-200D camcorder. I have a big question and I hope you can help me haha. What is the voltage of this camcorder???
I recently got one of these beasts: it used was to record the 1995 play-off season for a High School volley-ball team, then put away and forgotten until 2022! Less than 100 hours of run-time, but the battery was toast. New battery installed, runs like a champ!
Hello Dave, I have a Panasonic PV-210D. It worked fine until it seems to have snagged the tape. At that point it would no longer record images to the tape thought it still records sound. The image it records is snow although I can still see through the viewfinder. Do you happen to know where one might find a repair manual or schematics, parts diagrams, etc? Thanks, Brian
I have a red working JCPenny version of this camera, and a broken white one like the one you have here. Both tubes look exactly like it does in the video
It’s unfortunate these tube cameras lose their image quality over time. I do have a few cameras whose tubes are are still hanging in there however. I’ll eventually get around to covering them.
For future reference make a facebook group and donate charge shipping. I would definitely pay shipping cost for something that captures image regardless if it films on the tape or not. You'll get MORE SUBS that way bud
At the time I thought it would add some “drama” to the show and it certainly did. But not in a way expected. I lost several subscribers and received several comments like yours. The Crusher has since been “retired”. The 200d camera had a bad tube and I guess could’ve been used for parts. No one seemed to complain about the Sony I smashed as part of the segment intro animation. 🤔
@@davesretrovideolab2709 I suppose because that Sony didn't present that much value compared to Panasonic. Although not every tume camera has good picture, all of them are considered pretty valuable pieces to preserve. At least it's good to know that the one 200D which got smashed had tube-releated issue.
Hello Nathan, Yes, smashing the PV-200 with a sledgehammer wasn’t exactly the most popular thing I’ve done on the channel. That being said, the 200D I destroyed also had a bad tube. There were actually two camcorders which I used for the episode. Lastly, the very next episode, I retired the The Crusher for obvious reasons.
Smashing vintage electronics makes me absolutely sick. Why would people ever do such idiotic things, especially considering the majority of viewers are probably collectors and watching videos to see things fixed, saved, and/or used. I, myself, just found one of these at a thrift and was super excited to get it and search videos on people using them. Seeing someone turn around and smash something with an amazing amount of good parts, pr even an AWESOME display or prop piece if nothing else, makes me absolutely sick. I would have LOVED to run across a parts machine to fix mine up. I guarantee it upsets many more viewers than it attracts, to do stuff like that. Offering stuff like that up to subscribers or something, from time to time, would gain views, likes, and comments instead of lose them. I thought I had found a fun channel...but i cant risk warching that level of stupidity again on a piece worth a LOT as parts to someone.... so sad and pointless.....
Hey Jason, I understand your concern, and yes the internet was not happy about it. Therefore, we retired The Crusher shortly afterwards. Surprisingly enough we only lost 8 subscribers when this episode was uploaded a few years back and have had a steady increase in subscriber-ship since so no need to worry.
