Pretty stoked on the image not gonna lie haha! Hohooo no way!! That would be caraaaysee! I don’t think you’d be bummed if you did tbh. But I mean your footy from the C70’s is stellar 😍
I got the s5ii and the 24-105. I came from DSLR and had an older Olympus also. The stabe on the s5ii is incredible. It outdoes my tiny Olympus em5mkii. Overall image quality and colors are just gorgeous. Best camera I've ever had.
This is super encouraging. I had some reservations about the AF from other people’s videos but this makes me pretty confident in its abilities. Cool to hear the IBIS is improved too. I found it to be a little jerky at times. Great vibe though overall. Very chill
Me too RE the AF! I waited longer than I wanted to and then decided to pick one up, and it honestly does not disappoint, I keep expecting some weird thing to happen and so far it hasn’t lol! That’s a big thing I noticed between the OG S5 and this one is it’s a lot more smooth as it’s correcting, makes handheld too easy! Thanks so much! 🤙🏻
Thank you that means a ton! Camera settings for the talking head are: V-LOG White balance set to the lights ISO 4000 4K 10BIT 422 24fps Gamut V-Log Conversion LUT and then our own LUT for a light grade!
@@greyhousevisual Ok im back with one more question lol. I'm using Zebra 1 for my subject and Zebra 2 for the overall highlights, I'm using 55% for the subject and 90% for the highlights, are these settings good for VLog or are they too high?
Great video! I switched from a Sony a7siii to the S5ii a few months back and have been stoked! Strangely though, I've really enjoyed using this camera in manual focus mode. I feel more in control of everything. The IBIS is so nice, although I find it to be a bit wonky at times, with wobbly corners even at 28-35mm. But it's definitely way ahead of Sony's IBIS.
Thanks Jon! Ahh thats awesome! We’ve heard great things about the A7siii as well! Totally agree with you on the manual focus mode, we live on it 😂 Yeah if you’re being super aware of being stable it’s 10/10, buut I find when I start pushing it too hard you notice it a bit
Ty so much! Glad we can give some good info! It’s been a little while but if I remember correctly I think all of the shots with the S5ii in it were shot with the S5, and the rest was S5ii 🙂 We’re planning on doing a side by side comparison soon so lemme know if you have any questions!
@@greyhousevisual Nice! However, I was referring to this video "Panasonic S5ii Review - A Wedding Filmmaker's Review". Was the main camera that you are speaking into the S5ii? or just the S5? Thanks
Interesting! I’ve never shot on any Sony’s myself but they look TINY! Ooh we came from the GH5 as well, you’ll be blown away if you upgrade! One of our GH5’s stopped working so I picked up the original S5 in a pinch and after seeing the footage side by side on the computer was like whoa and immediately switched over haha.
@@greyhousevisual I never really thought of upgrading since most clients watch on 5 year old $500 tvs or cell phones, but last year I got the apple monitor and the difference is very apparent between different cameras.
@@manilamartin1001 oooh the apple monitor is 😍 Yeah as far as colour and resoloution on phones/old tvs you probably aren’t likely to notice the difference, but on your monitor you notice a huge difference in just noise and how clean the Fullframe image is, the low light and dynamic range difference is beauuutiful
@@panasonicism ooooh that’s a tough choice! It’s been a minute since we were on the m43 system but we’re loooving the fullframe series! It depends on what you’re using it for but I feel like you’re still getting better DR and lowlight in the S5ii?
Great video and over view. Waiting on the X. I havent had a digital camera since since my phase one ccd days, as I still shoot film for 95% of my photography work. But getting more into video and figured the s5IIx would be a good starting point. I feel the images out of the s5ii have a somewhat CCD sensor feel to them, which would allow the work to fit in more with my current work, aesthetically. Especially with the black mist filter attached. Look forward to seeing the setup you have and any and all advice. Thanks again! Subbed.
Thanks so much! And thanks for the sub 👊🏻 Totally agree, it’s a lot less digital looking than alot of cameras out there, you’ll love shooting with it!! Let me know any and all questions you have! I’ll answer any I can for you :)
I came here because of the release of Sony a7cii today. I was thinking of getting a new camera and awaited the release of the a7cii. With the price point ($2,999 CDN), I realized the Lumix S5ii is a far better buy in terms of the price and the number of things that Panasonic gives at a great price point.
You definitely cannot beat Panasonic at the price point currently that’s for sure! The Dynamic range on the Sony is apparently a full stop better, which is pretty good! The IBIS is sooo good on the Panasonic, and the AF is good, but Sony I’ve heard is the best.. so it’s a tough call tbh! Can’t go wrong with either!
Yes, you can go wrong lol. Sony is overheating ergonomic disaster 😅. Sorry, imho. Never be coming close to Sony cameras again. The image is probably a bit better tho and there’s some cheaper lenses. But, no
Thank you!! Love the colours from these cameras 😍 I can’t speak for the S5ii for photos, but I do use the original S5 for photos, and absoloutely love it! It could do with better AF but that’s where the S5ii comes in, I don’t think you’d be disappointed at all!
Ty!! I just use one 99wh v-mount to power the camera and it always lasts the whole day, for the screen I go through about 4 of the big Sony NPF batteries though haha
First of all great video, I recently got an s5m2 for filming in a beach environment (very bright and sunny) , do you have any recommendation on ND filters?
Thank you! Great call the S5mii has great dynamic range for bright and sunny 😍 The Peter Mckinnon ones are great! There’s also 2 different strengths of VND that they have as well. We use these ones: amzn.to/3UEsn7X They’re not too bad for the price!
We’ve not compares glimmer glass, BUT we’ve shot on our friend’s rigs who went from 1/8 PM to Glimmer glass and it looks great! Apparently it leaves a bit more info in the shadows from what I remember?
hey thanks for all the information, you have been very helpful. I'm deciding on whether or not should I upgrade to the S5ii. What do you think about the AF not being Phase Detection when shooting 1080p 60fps full frame? Do you find it the same as in the original S5?
Np Sakki, glad to help! For me it’s honestly not even on my radar, I always shoot in 4K and have for quite awhile! That being said, a good workaround/option if you want to slow something down is have your S&Q mode set to 4K 60fps, and then shoot in your 1080 24fps the rest of the time :) you get your slowmo and AF, and still save card space etc
The mk1 is a rad camera as well! I actually filmed this video on a mk1 on AF! But as far as brides coming down the aisle, I’ve been using AF on the mk2 and it’s doing awesome 🙌🏻 On the mk1 the AF just wasn’t reliable enough for us, we went pretty much full manual all day
I recently switched to Sony from the Lumix S5 because the Lumix kept failing to wrap the video files if I turned off the camera or switched modes too soon after filming a clip. The OG S5 certainly isn't any good for weddings. I don't know if the mark ii has this issue?
@@BillNessworthyPhotography that’s super interesting that you experienced that! I know a ton of people who use the OG S5 as well as myself I still have a few OG bodies I use on every project and never had that experience or heard of it! Maybe you got a lemon? Or possible memory cards you were using weren’t fast enough?
@@greyhousevisual I had two bodies, unfortunately they both did it. I had to convert 90% of the files to make them work. The autofocus of that body was another reason I switched of course :D (though I know the S5ii is much better in that regard)
@@BillNessworthyPhotography no way that’s such a bummer!!! Yeah the autofocus is SO bad in the OG S5 haha, I grabbed one at a wedding the other day to use and was like whoa I forgot how bad this was 😂
have you had any problems with moire in your recording? This camera or the GH5iix is high on my wish list, but on youtube there is a movie where moire messes up the movie!
@@greyhousevisual Can you perhaps make a video with the settings used for this new camera? And which buttons you assign a function to, this would be a great help for new panasonic users! I am going to order this full rig and also the Sigma zoom lens.
@@pfv3462 I’ll absoloutely make a video of settings/custom buttons etc! I was just brainstorming video plans this morning haha, I’ll add it to the queue! Ahh so exciting!! You’ll love the camera/lens combo, I haven’t swapped the lens on it for like a year 😂
Does anyone know if we will be able to pay $200 for firmware updates to get RAW and ALL-I and Recording via USB-C. Cause waiting and selling this for those needs(S5iiX) sounds crazy and annoying. It's just a black colorway and same sensor.
I just checked and you can get the ALL-I etc updates, so main difference is the black colorway and you can’t livestream straight from camera or record to SSD via USB-C. I was planning on waiting for the S5iiX as well and then was like.. wait am I only doing this because it’s all black? 😂 *added S5ii to cart*
