Video interview with American musician Panda Bear. FaceCulture talked with Noah Lennox about having a thing for wolves, being a family man, the consonant of words, the title of his new album Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper, death as a symbol for massive changes, constantly growing as a person, forming of new habits, telling stories that are helpful via music, reflecting on oneself in music, having spirit animals, being competitive, a day dreamer and laziness, living in Portugal, differences in culture, being successful, the purity of not getting lost in thoughts, longing to remove all the clutter, the closing statement of the album and more! I feel like there is so much in his mind that just can't be processed very well in his words. He seems like a cool dude.

I've always associated the line 'someone in my dictionary's up to no good/ I never find the very special words I should' with him so yeah.. however it was probably concerning Avey as far as I know

My father has cancer right now and things are not looking that good and I lost my brother some years ago. It bewilders me to see moronic people try to pit Panda against Avey because of taste. Life is so much more than rivalries and picking a side to be cool or right. I loved the Grim album, and I really think its got an entire thing of its going on. I get the depth on a lot of levels even if I dont know every detail. Panda used his voice much mroe as an instrument on the album and to me it came out very inspired and whole. I think he worked pretty hard on it and had some exploratory ideas that worked out well. I really do not get why people can write it off so quickly then say some snarky crap like "Avey is killing it." As if they cant find a few songs on the Panda solos to like in spite of not PREFERRING it over Avey material. As time goes on and the Animal Collective fan base gets bigger I see more and more dumb jock minded wanna be trippy hippies touting shallow outlooks. Its understandable but I can not help feel that they are missing some major points offered up.

A bit of a late reply - but you are right - for some reason people always want a compition and to choose a side, even if a conflict doesn't exist. Unfortunately six years down the road that tendency has only gotten worse. Nothing seems more like an organic band built around firendship than Animal Collective. I was a very periphery fan until I heard Deakin's Sleep Cycle and that drew me in, with it becoming almost obsessive this past year. I love all of their projects, but even if you didn't, as you stated, there would be no need to paint two of the members as rivals and choose a side. On a side note - something they all have in common is evoking a strong sense of place - I've lived in north Baltimore for most of my life and now live a few blocks from the forests of Loch Raven , and their music seems so in touch with the topography and environment of this area. So glad they're still creating collaboratively and with others.

2:14 seriously, what the fuck is up with this guys questions and approach? If it wasn't for my love for Noah and he being a genius capable of answering almost any kind of dull question in an at-least-almost-interesting way, I would've shut the video at that point.

Likewise! Sorry for the cursing, I keep trying to stop being so..., inmature. I guess I can say the root of my problems with these interviews is just that the nature of art itself always asks us to understand the artist by their work directly. Don't get me wrong, I also think that context is fascinating, and what the artist has to say about their work as well, but due to that nature, I'd always prefer interviews or even the way the artist expresses himself (In social media as well as others) to be very subtle, at least to the extend of not trying to deepen in things that might be obvious based on what the artist or the work says. In 2:14 e.g., it seems pretty obvious that the general idea of canines is what gets Noah to use those lyrics, and asking again "why" specifically a certain canine and not another is just totally off point to me. Kind of the same partterns happen in this and another interview I saw w/ AC. So that's what I meant; to finish the boring speech.

He's saying the interviewer is 100% tone deaf and not really "hearing" or listening to what he's being told, hence the questions being really off-kilter.
