Thanks for watching! Let's keep the discussion RE: political correctness to a minimum. I only mentioned it because it had been mentioned to me. If you want to discuss it, use this thread. Otherwise, please keep the comments related to the device and the technology.
For simple setups that do not require synchronized-printing attaching old phone or old tablet (somewhere close to the printer) with Bambu Handy app running is a neat workaround for P1 LCD limitations.
Solid coverage, assuming this doesn't get blocked it'll be a great addition to a Bambu printer and a major win for anyone with a farm. The P1S with one of these is looking better and better vs splashing out for the X1C. As far as terminology the IT industry has used it forever, but it's trying to do better, similar to blacklist/whitelist becoming block list and allow list. Easy enough for them to update, so hopefully that's a non-issue soon. Enjoyed the video, looks like a real value add.
blacklist/whitelist... Okey, at what point will the Orwellian redefinition of words end? At what level of "political correctness" that fits the CURRENT narrative? Should be BAN black-and-white photography? Eliminate all BW photos from Google search? PLEASE try to google "White woman with white child" and you will see lots of answers of mixed marriages and the image search will show the same... Well intentions do NOT lead to good results, nowadays Google is the MOST RACIST organization there is. So, excuse me, I will keep using blacklist/whitelist, master-slave etc, they are TECHNICAL terms and used in their context.
Yes we really don't want the printers getting offended, maybe we best change standard terminology & possibly the English language while were on just to be on the safe side 🤔
BTT has since removed the “addition and editing” portion about third party filament from their website, but you CAN do this from Bambu Studio and Orca Slicer, both support syncing third party filaments to the X1C and presumably to the Pseries via Bambu handy. When you add a custom filament in BS/OS it does show up on Bambu handy, so selection is still possible, just not addition and editing (yet) it seems.
Seriously? You're worried about political correctness? Get off the crazy carousel. If people don't like it, too bad. That is EXACTLY what is going on and is the best terminology to use. If people are triggered by this, it's simply an example of the narcissistic attitude of "My feelings are the most important thing in the world" encouraged by pop psychology that's running amok in society right now. Please drop the whole subject of bowing to the snowflakes.
I've bene planning to order the P1S soon over the X1C simply to save on cost, but was bummed I wouldn't have the nice touch screen with the very user friendly interface. Seeing this as a new option with pretty much all the features I would want (with more on the way it sounds like) solidifies my decision to order the P1S instead.
Why is there such a debate on using the names master and slave for computer communication? Not using the terminology will not change history and the analogy in computer communication is pretty accurate and if nothing else may act as a reminder of despicable human activities of the past and unfortunately in some places even the present ...
If you watch our live stream you'll see that I mentioned that multiple groups is planned for the next firmware release. Also, it looks like you were using beta firmware in the vid which may be why you had a few bugs with SD printing. I can print via SD with the V1.0.1 firmware which is the release firmware. Also, you can't add custom filament. What that statement is saying is that you can set the type and colour of any third party filament that does not have RFID in the same way that you can on the X1C screen.
Thanks. I didn’t catch the livestream. Glad to hear that multiple groups is planned. Im on 1.0.0 which is the latest version that was sent to me. Bambu just added support for setting custom filaments from the X1C screen. Would be nice to see that on the Panda Touch as well. If it’s not, the wording in the marketing material is a bit misleading in that regard, in my opinion.
@@ygk3d interesting. I had not seen that support was added for that. Been so busy with the launch. We will need to see how it has been implemented but it should be possible to add if it's there on the X1C. I've had the marketing material updated to be less ambiguous.
I don't personally see the issue with the terminology master & slave in this case, since it is quite literally what they are. The alternative would be to invent new words that mean the same thing, so I don't see how that helps. Blacklist/whitelist I can see a bigger issue with, however.
I just stopped watching at the point where the "master/slave" came to the point... Really unnecessary to point this out. People that are watching this (which is quite technical) and don't know that the "master/slave" terminology is out there in the technical/IT world for over many decades already, and which may feel "offended" about it, may better go to the hardware store to buy themselves a 3m rope...
Cool product but would love to see Bambu bake this into their slicer and mobile app. Hopefully if they come through with the API support they talked about after the X1Plus blog post, we can even build our own open source solution.
@@espressomatic Clearly thry are filling a need. But not sure why Bambu hasn’t prioritized farm mgt software. It’s not Bambu doesn’t have the stats to validate the usefulness of doing this in the app.
I bet we'll see that down the line. At that point, the utility of this device will primarily be in the conveniences of the touchscreen. For those that are fine using the mobile app instead, this device will be unnecessary. Personally, I like to have a dedicated screen that lives on or near the printer, for the times when I don't have my phone with me.
#1 it does not support GCODE file, only 3mf #2 it does not work well with USB drives due to circuit design. I suspect issues with voltage that keeps power cycle ON and OFF if booted with USB drive inserted. #3 It does not always detect USB drive. #4 it does not change temperatures. Dont know why. #5 it does not have function to home Z #6 there is only one reason to get it, that is to print outside of the internet. No other reason. Dont waste your money. your build in LCD has plenty of functions that actually work
I am so glad I found this video. You touched on the points I wanted to know to make my decision to order a panda. The pros far outweigh the cons. I just ordered a P1S over the X1C due to price but the screen was a huge downfall. I also don't want to have to use the handy app for everything. $60~ is a great solution for a median point.
Question, I noticed on mine, it reboots when usb stick is installed and sometimes when transferring the file. By placing the switch to battery it does it less often. I have had 2 replacements and all have done it. I am now of the opinion that it’s normal and no one is complaining. The other thing I noticed is how quickly they moved away from Master / Slave. Finally creating a group is nice but how to delete or reassign? I wanted to group by nozzle size, but when I change it on the printer I have no way to do so with the group so I have to factory reset and start over.
They’re machines. They do not care about political correctness. Epic tried enforcing developers to use DEI correct program phrases. This did not go far before the whole community laughed in their face including me. Unity is a different situation but they’re treading real high waters for going against their community. If these companies alienate their community over arbitrary terms and monetary gain, then they deserve what they get.
If only we had some other high resolution touch screen device that could easily be used with wireless communication standards to control these printers.
So Microsoft around 1999 put out this statement regarding spec machines they worked with Intel on for future terminology of the ATA/SATA/IDE sets of standards for physical spinning hard drives. Of course bigots called it “politically correct” and panned it, but the terminology replacements are becoming more common in IT “Don't use master/slave. Use primary/replica or alternatives such as primary/secondary, principal/agent, controller/worker, or other appropriate terms depending on the context. Use primary/subordinate as an adjective.”
There’s been a lot more advancements on this in the U.S. since 2003/2004 and beyond, with IT companies and engineering colleges like MIT discouraging use of the terms I reference to cylinders when discussing hydraulics. It’s only dinosaurs who think it doesn’t matter because they’re white, who have a problem with the terminology changing. When entire industrial unions poll their workers about the terms and they change them, it’s not “political correctness”.
The PS1 bed is 100c vs X1 110/120. Not sure whether that makes a difference. Otherwise it’s functionally very similar. Considering what to buy at the moment, saw your excellent Qidi Q1 pro video. If you had to buy one, would you pick the PS1 or the Qidi (excluding any comparisons on AMS)
I think Bambu will definitely break this thing with a firmware update. Mostly because they will probably add their touchscreen to the next version and want people to pay to upgrade it.
Mine is in transit. So is my new X1C. Maybe both will be here before the weekend. If the Panda touch ends up being cock blocked by Bambu Lab, I can make it into Klipper Touch. All good.
Does this add any features that the smartphone app doesn't? Debating getting this but i also have a spare smart phone and i could dedicate to the bambu app.
I have the same question. Wonder what features require the original screen. Also, seems this is a better solution than the Handy app, since no cloud connection is required (ie. can use in LAN Only mode where Handy cannot be used)
Great video! I'm wrapping up the review on the unit BTT sent me now. That error you got from printing was likely because the file wasn't sliced from plate 1. I had the same error when I exported a print from plate 7 to a .3mf file, and exported it to the root directory of the micro SD card, installed it back in the machine, and then tried to initiate the print from the Panda Touch. When I did the same thing with a file sliced from plate 1, it worked fine.
I heard these musings prior to making this video, which is why I thought it important to address it. The issue didn't start here, I promise you that. There are legitimate concerns around that terminology, which is why the industry has been making a push to change it. I try not to take sides one way or the other.
Did you try slot remapping with the panda touch only paired to one printer? Given the limitation that each printer in the Master/Slave chain has to have the same filaments loaded to the same slots I wonder if the remapping on print is disabled when controlling multiple printers as this would be a huge miss otherwise.
I added all of my printers before I tried the first print, so I can’t say whether it’s possible when only one printer is paired, but it seems unlikely. Considering the other limitations surrounding the ability to handle 3MFs, I would guess it’s related to that. The slot mapping is only contained in the 3MF container, not the g-code itself.
hello. I enjoyed your video. I am currently waiting after purchasing. While watching the video, I have two questions. 1. Will the g-code preview function be updated in the future? 2. Is there a way to remotely put a g-code file into panda touch? As long as the corresponding function is possible, it will be a complete device.
It is very likely that the thumbnail function will be added in the future but this really depends on whether bambu will be in agreement to allow us to cooperate like this. You can load g-code into the panda touch using the external USB slot. Otherwise you can load it into the printer SD via bambu studio and initiate the print via the panda touch.
@@looxonline As a P1S user, I am very disappointed that the two I was most looking forward to are not there. I will have to submit many inquiries so that updates can be made in the future.
@@기린이닷 I hear you buddy but we have to start somewhere and build from that. We would never release a product if we tried to add every single feature to it from the very first day. As the product currently stands, there are many really useful features for P1S users.
Yeah.. seemed strange to offer the first few units at a discount when the price was already good and they knew demand would be high. Also looks like they are sold out now which is disappointing. Hopefully they restock soon.
I checked again, I had one ordered then, but the whole launch soured me and I canceled, won't be shipping till mid march now. Oh well, keep us updated on how it is working for you please. @@ygk3d
The units just sold out rapidly. Other than that, we have received feedback that the content was informative and helped people to understand what the product was all about.
Fantastic! Great overview! Can’t buy one yet but I’m on the list!! Maybe I should get a P1S first… it’s on back order and should be here in a few weeks…
Not being able to reassign the filament slot on the AMS makes it a lot less useful. I have a p1p for my shop and I really want an AMS but i dont know the point if i cant reassign slots. I dont understand why thats not possible. Such a shame
You can do this on the Panda Touch, or from the Bambu Handy app, just not from the stock LCD. I agree that it's disappointing they don't allow you to do that. Perhaps they figure it would be too tedious to scroll through all of the filament type and colour options..
@ygk3d I think I didn't explain my self properly. When you print a file already on the sd card or USB, you can't change the slot that the print uses. For example, I sell the same product over and over of 10 colors. I cant use this to change the color of the print, correct? I just rematched 8:42 and you called it remapping without reslicing.
I run a print shop with a decent amount of X1Cs, but they're never printing the same thing at the same time, so I'm not really seeing the benefit of simultaneous control. Are there other features besides the simultaneous control that can make this thing worth having? I already have a nice touch screen on all my printers. I do agree it makes more sense to have if you're using P1s instead of X1s
For $59 it might be worth having on your desk so you can have a central command post where all of the error messages, etc. come in. But if you always have your phone with you, you could definitely live without it.
announced that the touch will have the ability to switch between the bambu and klipper firmware, at will. In an email and yt vid published today (1/25)
Bambu is a gimmick.. They copy Prusa platform and use Prusa open source then add a camera, enclosure and touchscreen 💯 They will copy The Prusa XL next and add some bells and whistles
How about command unit and drone unit, Or queen and drone? Control unit and bound unit. There are alternatives. I also understand the frustration around the terminology from a historical perspective, however just because something was offensive historically doesn't mean it can't mean multiple things and can't change over time. "Gay" meant happy, Then it turned into a slur, Then it turned into an identity for people rebranding the slur. Because language is fluid, most people using the term today won't be using it as a slur, intended as a superiority message. The idea of slavery in itself may be reason to avoid the word "slave". There are always alternatives to use if you are offended or don't want to offend people. Anyway this device looks great and probably will be supported with some great features in the near future because almost all of the issues are fixable with a software update.
It's sometimes jarring to see Master/Slave and I personally dislike it. Problem being, Primary and Secondary doesn't tell you if the secondary "answers" to the primary, or if the secondary is a backup for the primary at a glance, and in a lot of contexts. Open to using whatever terminology, I just would prefer if people knew what I was talking about when I got to change what I say
You need to leave the house more if this bothers you. Future generations are doomed with people like you in it...just imagine if there was another major war and you're stuck in your safe space under a table crying.
Don’t be sensitive. Master and slave is fine terminology. No personal is an actual slaves and this application of master and slave is more accurate than server and client.
Server client applys only to IT software or hardware plenty of other industries use the termology. Woke people need to chill out it's a designation of control perspective term it's got nothing to do with slavery of people
