Over the 3rd English lockdown (January - April 2021), my youngest son Nestor, who has been sailing since he was 7 years old, heavily researched (for months) how he could buy a sailboat from the money he had saved (£600) - and lo and behold, he found this beauty. A 1967 stunner but one that needed some TLC and restoration!
Once children were allowed back to school in early March, Nestor spent his free time in the DT (design technology) lab making new windows and seats for the boat. The precision that went into this still baffles me today. But he did it - and perfectly I might add.
In April, when England partially opened, Nestor was able to see his boat in the Isle of Wight for the first time! He then spent every free weekend in the months that followed sanding, painting and even doing all the electrics! (With the help of Dad, of course)
Just a few weeks ago, his sailboat was ready to be put into the water and ready to sail. I had the honor of spending a full 24 hours on the boat (which has a cabin that sleeps 2 and a loo!) with Nestor who not only looked after his mom by making her coffee in the morning watching the sunrise but I was able to watch him in action (see video) and so proud of the sailor and hardworking boy he has become.
