If you don’t have any little jigs for panfish. Just normal wax worms. On a stationary hook works very well. You can also switch out wax worms for live crickets.
The Hook EZE things are a life saver for tying hooks up especially when its cold. I'm sure you've probably used one before but figured I'd mention it since I just got a pack of the non namebrand ones for like 10 bucks for 8 and after going out today and using them I don't know how I lived without them lol. Especially when its cold out, makes throwing a knot onto a hook incredibly easy since you can just secure the hook, and then spin it easily without worrying about sticking yourself or anything else.
Try using a 1/32 oz. Vmc pro series crayfish jigs. They may be very light but they do catch fish. Like a lot of crappie, tiger trout and brown trout, panfish and perch. Oh yeah I can't forget about smallmouth or largemouth bass at all either.
I think fish staying in the shade allows a form of artificial cover that keeps them from being seen while keeping an eye on potential prey or predators.
