This is one of the most powerful scenes in the whole film, it is just awe inspiring to see the manhood representation brought to another level. The way he picks up the razor and flexes his man muscles really brings off a strong vibe of power and overall dominance. How he smokes during all this can only be described as "Badass" as he is doing something seen as cool while continuing to do manly actions and tasks such as shaving, to which we see in this scene. Personally I feel that the music was a little bit lacking, however, I am sure that at the time of when this film was released, this tune must have been a real banger. In conclusion I feel that Captain Vidal is the embodiment of masculine power within this piece of media and that this scene is the best in the entire film because of the points that I have just stated. Also, I ran over a man in 1995, the body has not been found to this day.
This happened with a few songs, for example they played Bei Mir Bist Du Schon (idk if I spelled it correctly prbly not) throughout Nazi Germany like a pop record without knowing that it was a Jewish song. Shostakovich used Jewish and Gypsy themes in his compositions under the Communist government which couldn't figure this out, as well as themes to mock with ironic military march themes actually played by the soldiers for shows of 'power.' I don't like this scene because of how Vidal looks, he's a real jerk, I just find it fascinating how it was filmed. It's an interesting scene itself but not because of the villain, it's the context behind it. I love studying human body movement and anatomy, so in this scene I really admire how the camera paces between the frames to capture Vidal's dignified pose, from his hand starting the record player to carefully picking up his razor to begin his shave until finally it cuts to the frame where the audience sees him finishing his shaving from a certain angle and finally him polishing his boots. It's a really interesting scene because the choice of music fits it perfectly with the era the story is set in and also it plays along to Vidal's cruel nature and personality, that he thinks himself a military soldier or captain, a man of his time; the whole music is just an illusion that accompanies that fact.
The film itself is actually very well made, but yes, it pretty much is just communist propaganda. And Vidal is the only interesting character in the whole movie.
100% wrong. Franco was precisely a communist, the woods hippies in this movie (the rebels), are the liberals! Learn some history. This is an anti communist film. So.. now you know, you can really love it.
