Explore the fascinating journey of the Pansarbandvagn 302 (Pbv 302), a robust Swedish armored personnel carrier developed by Haglund & Söner in the 1960s. Entering service in 1966, the Pbv 302 faithfully served the Swedish Armed Forces until 2014, when it was replaced by the more advanced CV 9040 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). However, the story doesn't end there.
In a remarkable twist, Sweden has transferred its fleet of Pbv 302s to Ukraine, providing these venerable vehicles with a new mission in the defense of Ukraine's sovereignty. Join us as we delve into the history, design, and impact of the Pbv 302, and discover how these historical machines are being repurposed in a modern conflict.

Thank you for your large commitment to sharing knowledge about military vehicles. I will also say that your english has improven by a lot over the years. Your voice is soft and pleasant like your accent. And thanks for giving Swedens military weapons some well deserved attention and recognition that they are good. Because most of them are pretty good, and often times among the best in the world. I wish that this horrific unnecessary war in Ukraine could have been avoided and Sweden could have gotten its recognition for its engineering skills without this war.

The information provided in the video was published by another channel before. The only differences is the voice and the fact that the pbv302 is based on the American M113 with added protection, better/faster door and a gun from the outdated Saab 29 tunnan (a Swedish multirole fighter). I have a strong feeling that I'm not the only on that saw that video!

Its perhaps something in between an APC and an IFV. Back in the 1960s it could probably have been used as an IFV with all the extra firepower and protection it had compared to the M113. But on a modern battlefield do I think this vehicle is just as vulnerable as an old M113. And having hatches in the rear where the soldiers can look out for threats and fire their guns is perhaps more a burden than an asset in a time period when drones are flying everywhere. Those hatches are great at giving the troops an overview over the battlefield, and allows them to fire on the enemy before they leave the vehicle, and allows them to defend the vehicle before the vehicles own crew have even spotted a threat. So it is good against enemy soldiers, but perhaps not so against drones. I guess the vehicle can be vulnerable against mines and drones like the M113. Some Swedes argue its an infantry fighting vehicle, while some say its not. Its a matter of debate. However I think this vehicle will undoubtably will be useful as an ambulance. But its not my first choice for storming enemy positions with.

@@nattygsbord Большинство минусов связано со временем его создания и использования этой машинки. На мой взгляд основные минусы это отсутствие современной пушки с системы управления огнем, а также отсутствие соответствующих оптических прицелов - как дневных так и ночных.

Some swedish military bloggers wonders if those vehicles even got their 20mm guns left. Some of them say that this 20mm gun is superior to the machine gun on M113. But there are others that say that it is inferior, as it do not cause much fragmentation beyond 1 meter and the little it creates could be absorbed by body armor that are common nowadays - which was not the case back in the 1960s. So they mean that the Machine gun on M113 therefore is superior as it can shot through trees and it is a gun that is easy to maintain. So I would not be surprised if Ukriane put another weapon on these vehicles.

I mean, Ukraine wants to build a factory in Ukraine to build CV90 vehicles, so that's one way of paying for it.
