by far the best performance live! I saw Pantera twice in my life and I wouldn't trade it for anything! That Moscow show is insane! Phil was 23, Dime was 25, Rex & Phil were 27. To be that good in front of that many people at such a young age is insane. The energy in the crowd is crazy. Phil & Dime had such chemistry on stage. The 4 of them were so tight in the early years. Rex is under rated by everyone. Man I can go on forever about Pantera lol..
He said "We're taking over this town" that was Phil's regular speaking voice. For a man who could sing some pretty High notes he spoke in a very deep voice.
I first heard Pantera in the summer of 89. My girlfriend at the time came over to my house and she had Cowboys From Hell blasting in her truck. I was like "who the hell is that?!" I love Phil's voice. His actual speaking voice is really close to the, "We're takin over this town" part.
Pantera was an American heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas. The group was formed in 1981 by the Abbott brothers-drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell-along with lead vocalist Terry Glaze. Bassist Rex Brown joined the band the following year, replacing Tommy D. Bradford, who was the unofficial original. Having started as a glam metal band, Pantera released four albums independently during the 1980s. Looking for a new and heavier sound, Pantera replaced Glaze with Phil Anselmo in late 1986 and released Power Metal in 1988. In 1989, the band secured a record deal with the major laber Atco. With its fifth album, 1990's Cowboys from Hell, Pantera popularized the groove metal genre. This video was filmed at The Basement in Dallas, TX .
Seen Pantera TWICE and each time I was left ears ringing, out of breath, hoarse, and still feeling the bass reverberating in my chest for hours... Loved every moment! 😁😁😁
25 years after my first reaction... and that shiver running through my spine is still there... and still hating the world. No bullets when you have music.
Now this video shows what the cowboys tour in the clubs were like. The most awesome shows I’ve ever seen to this date, and I’m an old retired musician now. If you see Phil in his Mohawk, that was his best ! They were fresh, hungry, and the best party band ever ! Getting Phil, and changing their sound was the best thing to ever happen !
Because of this band right here. Because of that man, Dimebag, was the whole reason i fell in love with metal and started learning guitar back in 1994. Such a shame what happened to Dime, should have never happened. May he RIP with his brother Vinnie. I just had to buy myself that very same guitar he plays in this vid. The Dean from hell. Love it.
@@KyleS.1987 Maybe their is a reason the band stoppped playing that song off, what the band themselves would tell u is their worst album. Christ, at least do the Grammy Nominated version
@@integrity101 regardless if the band think it's their weakest album, fans pretty universally acclaim this album. Cowboys from hell earned classic album status long ago.
Pantera started off as a hair band in the early 80s. A glam rock band. Phil Anselmo started singing with them and sang on Power Metal, a transitory album. They made the big switch in 1990 when Cowboys From Hell was released with their more familiar aggressive sound.
Pantera started as a glam metal band in '81, then shortly therafter went full thrash until the band broke up in 2003...cowboys from hell was about 1990.
Pantara was real homegrown band from Texas that had a personal connection to people. When people talk about Pantara they would say "you know Phil, or you know Vinnie were great guys". It was in a very personal manner like they knew the guys personally.
Saw pantera on their last tour in glasgow scotland. After the concert they invited everyone to the cat house nightclub to have a drink with them. You dont get other bands that were willing to chill with their fans. True legends. RIP vinnie and dime, drinking your black tooth grins in the after life!
Greatest Groove Metal ever! Out in the 80s but Dominated the 90s. Phil was the first true extreme metal vocalist with the growls, screams, distortion and beautiful cleans.
They actually started in the mid 80's as a glam band but changed things up when they got this singer. This is from their major label and "official" debut, which came out in 1990. But they have 4 independent albums before it.
@@cripsician I have all ten pantera albums. I dont need to look anything up about this band. I dont know why u even replied, i never said this was their first album.
1981 is the origin year. A few years later in 86 Phil joined the band and they transformed..... the rest is left in history. I had the pleasure of seeing them many times live.....badass band.....just badass!!!! Dime's guitar abilities are at the top of the list for all of us guitar players to aspire to. He alone is my reason for picking up the axe!!!! Great vids man. keep them up!
The guitarist DimeBag Darrell was shot in the head numerous times while performing with his other band while his brother which is the drummer here was drumming also when he got killed
Seen quite a few "reaction videos" and most do 1 song and come back later to the particular artists catalog but you get a better idea of the overall feel. Great work.
I saw Pantera at a little place that used to be a skating rink in 1993. They were in their prime . It was in Glen burnie, Maryland. Sacred Reich opened the show. Pantera destroyed the place. Just phenomenal.
We're taking over this town! Was happy that at 12 years old I saw the original line up during the Vulgar Display of Power tour when they were little known and they opened up for Skid Row!
This song made me fall in love with them...then there was Cemetery Gates...that got a huge push years later thanks to Tales From the Crypt "Demon Knight" with Jada Pinkett. Then Pantera blew up.
There'll never be another like Wayne Static. There are some albums from that period of metal that don't hold up so well, but Wisconsin Death Trip sure as hell does.
they released it in 89 . i saw the tour three times in 90 in charlotte nc . met them all . i carried my guitarist into his house after getting home from the second show when dime got him drunk on whiskey . he didnt show up for work the next day . imagine that .
They're such a good live band, luckily I got to see them in 2000. Bought my own ticket and told no one, heaps of my friends were there... It was so good!
Zakk Wylde was Dime’s best friend. He’s got a band called Black Label Society, he also played/plays for Ozzie Osborn. He dedicated a song to Dime called “This River”. You’ll hear some similarities in their playing styles. Masters of pinch harmonics. BLS has some good shit and definitely worth delving into.
Pantera started out in mid 80's as a glam rock band. It wasn't until Phil Anselmo came into the picture. They wanted something more heavy. He was the key.
This version of Pantera started around 1990, before this they were more of a glam metal band that started in '85 I think. They broke up in 2002, then of course the unthinkable happened in 2005 that made any reunion impossible.
R.I.P. Abbott brothers and my brother's in music. I've been a Guitar & Bass player since 1979 and have been in bands most of my life. Shared the stage with many of great bands & musicians. To take nothing away from Dime Bag Darrell & Vinnie Paul because they were 2 of the best there ever was.
The 90s were amazing for music. So many genres, and so many amazing artists in each. I was lucky to see Pantera on ozzfest in 97. They were colossal!!!
In respect to Cemetary Gates by Pantera. You felt that outro like me! I love tour reactions brother! You are a good dude. I really wish we could chill.
They started in the 1981 as a glam metal band with singer Terry Glaze. After getting a contract they did three albums 1983 - 1988. Deciding to move to heavier direction Glaze's style did not fit in and was replaced with Phil Anselmo. They did album called Power Metal before presenting completely revised style with the album Cowboys From Hell. Pantera has been given the credit of being the link between thrash / speed metal and the then yet to be appear nu- metal. Also the term groove metal has been invented to describe Pantera's style.
Early 90s. Dimebag (lead guitar) was murdered on stage in 2004 in Columbus Ohio. His brother the drummer died in his sleep of cardiac arrest in 2017. Great band in their day. Inventors of Groove Metal.
They started around 81 and they were a hair band until 86 8 7 something like that. Then phil joined the band and they became Pantera as we know it today
This was 1990. Pantera actually started in 1981 but didn’t take off until this album was released. They have 4 albums before this one that most people don’t know. Of those 4 albums only one has this singer.
Psycho Holiday is a great Pantera tune from this album aswell. did u react to that one already? One of the most soulful and groovy tunes by Pantera. Its in a Shuffle feel, which is very unique in metal.
they did an album before this one called power metal that freakin jammed hard , this was their first real heavy album owwwww !!! this album is an ear hole changer if ur newish to metal , awesome review man !!!
I’m fortunate to be of an age and to be in the scene. These guys were great and loved in their home, this song is an anthem of a time and place.if you were lucky enough to be in DFW when this came out you know what I mean. They played everywhere but here at home OH MY JESUS!! Roofs blown
A group of musical geniuses from Dallas Texas. Formed in the 80's but broke big in the 90's. Hometown heros. And arguably the greatest metal band to walk the face of the planet. Nobody really comes close.
Welcome to the Pantera fan club, my guy. One of the best fuckin bands to work out to EVER. Their shit makes you run through brick walls. Highly suggest I’m Broken by them- groovy as shit
Dime`s guitar was legendary but I always felt that Rex`s playing never quite got the praise it deserved, that bass was always so crisp and at times like a chainsaw going through flesh!
we watched these guys when they were house band at the hard rocks cafe in lawton okla, back in the early 80's we knew then they were headed up , hard core jammin
Glad you like the stuff bro I love all kinds of music I’m glad you can broaden your mind it means a lot to me I’ll kinds of good music after you just Gotta check it out and you’re doing just that
I had been living in Dallas for awhile already when this came out in '90. Prior to Cowboys Pantera was pretty big in the local club scene but they were kind of a glam band. Then this happened and they announced to the world that metal was alive and well! And every succeeding album they somehow managed to get harder and harder!!
