Panther Luna celebrates Shrovetide for the first time 🥞🐆🎉 

Maslenitsa is an East Slavic traditional holiday celebrated during the week before Lent, which has preserved in its ritual basis a number of elements of pre-Christian Slavic mythology. In the folk calendar of the Eastern Slavs, the holiday marks the border of winter and spring, as well as Meat-eating and Great Lent. On this holiday, pancakes are baked every day for a week. The culmination of the holiday is the traditional burning of Maslenitsa on Sunday, the "Forgiven Day". The effigy was taken to the edge of the village or to the square, usually the Carnival was accompanied by a whole procession. A bonfire was lit on the spot, and then the effigy was burned to songs and dances. Why did they do it? It's simple: Maslenitsa is akin to the Phoenix bird: rebirth through death, the new can only appear on the wreckage of the old.

I couldn't figure out what you were doing until I remembered that "our" Easter is earlier than the Russian one. Our Ash Wednesday/Shrove Tuesday already happened. I like the tradition of getting rid of the bad like that - I may try it closer to the start of spring over here in Maine USA. BTW, when you said "Cool TV. Make it show horses.", I laughed so hard I snorted coffee out of my nose. My housecats do that same thing - "Mama, why no squirrels? Why no birds? Do something about this!" I love the doors in the new house - they have a very pretty design. I know you all will be so happy there. Luna is already looking more comfortable in the space, so things are working out. But if I had those "stringy" curtains in my house, my cats would have destroyed them in the first ten minutes! Your pancake breakfast made me hungry - let's all go enjoy our day! ❤

We have a similar custom in Poland. On the first day of spring, we drown Marzanna. It's nice to see how much space the girls have in your new house. And so many interesting things outside the window. Although Luna mostly sleeps :), the city apartment is probably a bit too small for her. It's also nice to see how much Venza is attached to Luna. He definitely considers her a member of her herd.
