You utterly left out how Stockings and tights, were originally for men...and fighting men at that. You need to do a little bit research on your topic. It was not always something for women. Your overall beginning portion is exceptionally negative on the topic and frankly typical argument points. Much of what you started with is not applicable. Oh. And the term "mantyhose" is an absurd "joke" term, and the hose have a friggin sheath for the um...unit. They are stupid. Now...there are Activeskin or Comfilon hosiery that are made for men...and yes for a bit were called "mantyhose" but that term was thankfully tossed aside for....tights, or, yes pantyhose. There are other manufacturers of hose for men. There are a lot of bull notions about men that choose hose, which are really sexist. Now. I am a gender non conforming male, and I wear pantyhose with my outfits. I have been able to get 10 or so wearings out of my hose before relegating them to less visible uses, OR for my more punk looks, ripped hosiery works good. Point being, you paint hose as some awful bother for women, (and that price? Maybe back in the day, but today? If you pay more than $6 for hose...they better be ones that won't run...which do exist now. I really wish this were a better representation of the history of this item, but somehow I am not surprised at it being overall negative and lacking.
I know people who call garter stockings "nylons".a woman I knew would talk about if she was wearing her pantyhose or her nylons.I wanted to get a pair of pantyhose for a friend of mine for Valentine's Day 1981,along with a pair of pumps.I was in a shoe store looking and told the saleswoman of my intentions. She suggested I go to an adjacent drugstore for L'eggs.I told her if I were a woman and some guy gave me that brand or any other sold in a place like that,I'd throw him out and tell him to stay away.I was wanting to buy a brand like Hanes or Dior.
