Just my preference, but I love the way you get right into it, and just show everything in a quick, efficient way!! Really great tutorial, definitely inspired to try this. TFS!
To sew the spine, could it also just be hand stitched with say a pamphlet stitch? I really do love this concept and I want to try and make one for myself.
I love your paper-bag journal with all the painting on the covers and inside!!! I'll certainly follow your series!!!😍😍😍❤❤❤❤Ow one question please! What kind of sewing machine do you use to sew the paper bag? I don't own a sewing machine and i have to convince my mother that sewing these for me will not cause problem to her sewing machine...!!!🙄🙄🙄 😐😐😐(or else i'll have to hand-sew it!)
Thank you Elena! I have a brother sewing machine. (I quilt with it- so I understand your mom's concerns ;) ) Sewing through paper can dull a needle pretty quickly but other than that I've never had any issues. Maybe if you told her you'd buy her a new needle she'd let you play ;) BUT you could totally hand sew it too! I love the way hand stitching looks!
You could hand stitch it, maybe using the book binding pamphlet stitch or even just a straight hand stitch. Or you could staple it, or use brads if you have them. Totally get creative with what you have on hand! That’s the beauty of these journals, they are very customizable 😉 Thank you so much for watching Mary 💗
I am having so much trouble with this and I can't understand it or figure it out. When I make the first fold and fold it over, it's great, but when I make the second fold and then fold it over it doesn't match up, there is a lot of space left over. I know its hard to explain. I'm following step by step, even in slow motion. What can I be doing wrong? (going crazy in NJ) :)
Michele- I'm so sorry you are feeling these frustrations! After having made quite a few journals since the video I will say this, not all bags are created equal ;) Depending on how wide your 'bottom' or base of your bag is and the height can change the fold sizes. I know I used a Taco Bell bag and I ended up with some pages that were shorter than others, but I actually thought it was kinda cool. So my suggestion would be to just fold it back up onto itself, even if it doesn't match up exactly! I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions. XO- Erin
@@ErinDeCoste Thanks much, that's what the problem was, and I ended up just folding it as best I could. I see the dimensions were quite different and I do have a few shorter pages which I like. I sewed it by hand which worked fine too. Took a bit of elbow grease but it worked. I'm super pleased. So thank you again, and thanks for your speedy replies.
Such a great idea!! I just got a paper bag from a thrift store too, I am so going to make one of these! ty so much for being so inspiring! hugs, Kim xx
You are adorable!!! How am I only meeting you tonight? I'm like 9 months deep into my junk journaling obsession. I've started 6. I've finished 0. I have enough supplies one would believe I've mastered the art (& sometimes science) of journaling. Anyways, I digress.... Yay, you!!!
Looks fun and grrrr those paper bags are hard to come by here ... just recycled a pile of them I had saved for years that had logos on them last week. 😪 now will be on the hunt. Lol
Oh man Angie! Haha! Isn't that always how it is? We get rid of something after keeping it forever and then find a reason to use them after they are gone! Always happens to me too haha! ;)
Such a neat idea Erin! I'm going to have to find me a paper bag and try this myself. I can't wait to see what you add to these fun journals and what else comes with this series!
OH Yay Val! That makes me so excited to hear! I still got tons of prayers going for ya and Can't wait for you to be back home and relaxing/arting again!
Oooooo!! I finally got a moment to sit down and watch your video!! I was glad to read in the comments that hand stitching could work too. I have a sewing machine but I literally haven’t even plugged it in in probably 15 years! 😳.
Wahoo Didi! So glad you got a chance to watch and oh yeah hand-stitching would work great or even staples! Truly anything that you could use to bind those pages together would work ;)
👋🏻 Hello Erin! I enjoyed your video. Lately I’ve been messing around with tp roll journals and wanting to make a paper bag journal. Thanks for your how to video! Also I noticed you have other journal videos I’ll check out! ❤️💜💚
At last someone who just gets to the point from the start and easy to listen to as well. I love these bags which I am going to try and make. I also shared this video on the Junk Journals downunder FB page to inspire others. thank you, from Brisbane Australia
