Last week I noticed a co-worker using two paper cups for his coffee and when I asked why, he said he needed the second because only one was too hot to hold. So I decided to make him something that would turn any paper cup into a mug. I started by tracing a Starbucks sleeve onto some leather for the shape. Then I cut it out with my X-Acto. Next, I moved onto the handle. I started by gluing two strips together, being careful to glue them in the shape I wanted. Then I scored stitch lines and punched stitching holes in both the handle and on the sleeve’s edges. Then I stitched the two handle strips together. Next, I scuffed up the leather and glued the handle to the sleeve. Then I stitched the top of the handle first and then the bottom. Finally, I used the corset stitch to attach the two sleeve edges. And just like that I had a Paper Cup Leather Mug Sleeve. Now of course a traditional mug would solve the issue and save paper cups, but at least this will help save one cup and also keep my co-workers hands protected. Let me know how you take your coffee in the comments and as always, thanks for watching!
