This is my cover of Paper Lanterns by Green Day. I did the Jaded in Chicago live version because I think it is by far the best version of the song. The recording on the album drags a little bit and I think the Jaded in Chicago version is the perfect speed. I improvised over the solo that Billie does, trying to keep it based on what he played live. I hope it sounds good!

It's a rarity to see someone play the live versions for covers. Though it's the one most people prefer, great playing! Merry Christmas to you! Loved the solo too!

I have the exact same guitar. I specifically wanted that color so it looks like Blue. Even put stickers all over it when I first got it but ended up taking them all off

How did you get that sound?, it's lit (what kind of head is it and what's the name of the cabinet) thanks! BTW: i started recently so could you tabb the solo for me i can't pick it up when you play it :D

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this comment. The head is a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and the cab is a Line 6 modded with Celestion Vintage 30s. And the solo was improved so I couldn't even begin to tab it out. All I can say is blues scale lol. Sorry

I'll have to post a tone video when I can crank my amp. I actually don't have the Rectifier any more but I can get it with my Mark V too. The secret to this tone is don't scoop the mids too much and keep the gain lower than you would think. The tone stack is pretty neutral close to 5 with frequencies boosted and cut just a little bit to taste.

I've been working on that solo for like 10 years lmao. Not bad at all. You should tab it out, might help you play the solo more like you want it when you put it in front of you

Thank you! I tend to lean more toward the improv side with a focus on the main little licks I like. If I were to do it over I'd spend more time polishing the solo

Those would be good ones for sure. I love all those songs. I might give Dear Maria a shot and get some non Green Day and blink songs up. Once I get Enema of the State, I'll do What's My Age Again for sure. I've also got some Ataris on the way so stay tuned :)

Great cover, I love the song! I have a beginner question, do you also usually play the upper octave when you play power chords, or only the root and the fifth? I mean when you use only the index and the pinky. Thank you!

Sorry I'm just getting to this. I've developed a habit where I play the power chords off the sixth string with my 1st, 3rd and 4th finger and when I move down to playing the root off the 5th string I use my 1st and pinky because all I need to do then is move my 1st finger down a string. Its usually just the root and 5th but I'm sure I hit the octave sometimes. I hope that answers your question :)

@@gabeaddisonmusic okay, so the studio version is in standard tuning. The tab should be accurate. Then if you tune to Eb it should match the live version.
