The dialogue for Tubbas Heart does exist for Bow after she attacks him where he remarks on how tasty she looks and she’ll be a tasty snack. with Bow retorting saying she’ll defeat him for the sake of the Boos he’s eaten. In Book of Mario, the Google Translated version, Bow tells him to “die with a nuke” Edit: Clarifyed a few small things. Shoutouts to Brueno and Joonahthan in the replies for helping me clarify!
That voice acting for Yakkey was perfect! Also, I really like the animation when Tubba Blubba does his ground pound attack on the bridge. Really goes to town with the whole "paper" aspect of the game, like when you destroy the Goomba King's castle.
Most people are asking the question of how Tubba Blubba can eat ghosts. I’m over here wondering how Tubba’s Heart getting ripped out equals invincibility, I’m pretty sure that equals instant death.
Are we just going to gloss over the fact Bow admitted that the reason Tubba Blubba ate all the ghosts was because they kept terrorizing him? And SHE'S THE GOOD GUY?!
You are confusing “good” with “just”, or “moral”. Yes, Tubba is the antagonist, but we see he wasn’t really all that bad. Bow takes the role of protagonist and sort of ally to Mario, but she provides both a ton of aid (all the items he gets from the mansion) and joining his party, while also being a roadblock in holding the star spirit. Things are not quite as simple as you seem to think. The characters have a bit of nuance to them, layers that make them more interesting than the guy who is hurting people for no reason and the person asking for Mario’s help. That’s kind of why chugga was saying he liked bow as a character Yes, the ghosts liked scaring tubba, since they’re ghosts and they weren’t exactly hurting him
The true horror, is that his heart was ripped out by Bowser, the gapping hole was only patched up by a piece of fabric, and made into a dead corpse controlled by a puppet master trapped six feet under. Now imagine this game without that piece of fabric. And if he’s only a shell…. Did the hole ever healed…? Is he bleeding to dead right now?!
I never saw her [no] response before... MAN. Seeing her respond like that makes me like her even more. Did not think I would hear you call her a "Ghost Waifu"... but at the same time I would never expect any less with such a fan favorite character.
Skipping the escape sequence meant Chugga skipped another funny part of it: Tubba Blubba will never chase you to the door on the ground floor, he’s programmed to only run in circles around the rubble once you’re down there.
Goombario's Log Day 27: We did it! We defeated Tubba Blubba and got the star spirit from Bow! Turns out, Bowser ripped his heart out and put in underneath a windmill. That's why he wasn't able to be damaged, because he couldn't feel anything. Plus, turns out the guys pretty sensitive since he was scared by the boos constantly. I kinda feel bad for the guy, sorta. He did let all the boos he ate go, but yeah. I feel bad for him. Kooper's Log Day 22: I'm starting to go insane from all of that constant beeping from peril strats. It just kept beeping over and over and over again. When we defeated Tubba Blubba, Mario got a level up resetting his health back to full so the beeping stopped, but he didn't even up his HP for crying out loud. I hope he doesn't go back to those strats again. Bombette's Log Day 21: Woo hoo! That's how it's done! The invincible Tubba Blubba is no more. Now he's just regular old Tubba Blubba who's a big old coward this whole time. And to think he only chose a life of crime in boo eating all because the boos kept scaring him. Haha,... oh wait. That's kind of tragic. This is how serial killers are created. Man, boos are jerks. P.S. Don't tell Bow I said that, for the love of goombas I want her to be my friend so bad. Parakarry's Log Day 16: OH THANK THE STARS IT'S OVER! I don't want to have to look at the Tubba Blubba guy for as long as I live. I know that he's now a hollow shell of who he is now, ironically, but man I hope I never have to look at him again. That said, I'll probably have to see him again to deliver him mail. Bow's Log Day 5: OHOHOHOHOHOHO!!!! Splendid! Tremble before me Tubba Blubba! I have bested you and saved my friends from your clutches! I hope you know that there are consequences to your actions. From this day forth, you shall be subjected to an eternity of nightmares and bed wetting! Oh, and I've decided to stay with Mario and the others. Turns out they're pretty nice people, and I'd like to explore more of the world as well. So, looks like they're stuck with me. OHOHOHOHOHOOOO!!! *after defeating Tubba Blubba* Goombario: Woo Hoo! Let's go guys! Kooper: Tubba Blubba has been defeated and the star spirit is ours! Bombette: Great work everyone. Especially you Karry. Karry: Me? Oh, yeah. Me. With my quick thinking we got out of the castle in a flash. Definitely not because I was scared out of my mind. Nope. Not at all. Bow: Well, in any case. Tubba Blubba is gone, and the star spirit is yours. Goombario: So, I guess this is goodbye, right? Bow: Well, I thought about it. And I've decided to stick around. Kooper: What!? Bombette: HOORAY! BB&BFF'S FOREVER! Bow: I'd like to see more of the world and keep these juices flowing. And besides, you're need me down the line. Karry: In any case, welcome aboard. Now, let's head back to Toad Town to find our next clue. Bow: Hold up, before that. There's something else I need to give you guys. Karry: Oh yeah, and what would that b... Bow: *kisses Karry on the cheek* Karry: *absolutely dumbfounded* Bow: Thanks for saving me back there. You might be a scaredy koopa, but you'll do what it takes to save your friends. Thank you, Karry. *blows kiss* Now then, off we go. *flies away* Goombario: Um, Karry? Kooper: Karry? Bombette: Earth to Karry. Are you okay? Karry: Guys, ... I think I'm in love. Goombario, Kooper, and Bombette: *shocked* Bow: You guys coming? Karry: Yes honey. I-I mean darling. I-I mean babe. I-I-I mean,... Kooper: *whacks Karry with Mario's hammer* Everyone else: *looks at Kooper* Kooper: Trust me. I did that for his sake.
LOL! Didn't expect this. But nice of her to return the favor. Also I'm beginning to set-up what I wanna do and il make sure to post them in the replies of your comments. That or maybe on their own, who knows?
In the castle... Spike: I'm feeling so bored. Another fail because Tubba Blubba lost. Ah well, he is a pansy. Shy guy?: Yeah, dude. At least the man with the plan has Mario next. He's causing havoc right now. Spike: Lucas, are you messing with the disguise parasol again? Lucas the koopa: Yeah. Why do you have to ruin it? Spike: Bowser is furious right now. But you're right, shy guys are causing all sorts of mayhem right now. In the middle of the ocean.... Steve: Take a swim through the ocean seas. Dancing to the rhythm without any knees. 🎶 Esteban: Oh we will paddle strong as head can be, as we found our one and only key. 🎶 Steve: Oh, it's definitely long time so, but we must proceed and continue to row! 🎶 Esteban: In, our cup, we explore it all. Going down all our, even through waterfalls. 🎶 🎵 Steve: Faltering is not in our plans, we'll get new vessels if we're not fans. 🎶 One hour later... Esteban: And we are burning up again in the heat. Steve: We're red pikmin but we can last forever in the heat. Wait! Land ahoy!!
Okay, I just want to say that the last bit with Karry and Bow was so cute that my art block has been lifted and now I want to draw art of the two together. BTW though, I really like your log day stuff! Have you considered uploading them all somewhere? Google Docs? AO3? Either way, they are really nice and I really look forward to them after watching the episodes.
I was GOING to say something about fartbubbles, but then I found out this faker right above me as of this comment, so I'll dedicate this reply to saying at least Emile's viewerbase, as sad and nostalgic as they may be, is smart enough to avoid this box propped up by a stick that calls itself a Telegram.
In the original LP, it took 28 videos to clear chapter 3. In episode 27 of the original LP, Emile found Yakkey and entered Windy Mill, but did not fight Tubba's Heart. Also, he did the chase sequence that he skipped this time, and including failed attempts it took about the same amount of time both ways. See you at the end of chapter 4 for another side-by-side comparison!
Wait how did it take 30 vidoes to clear chapter 3 if he found the key in episode 27? Or are you counting 30 videos since the start of the LP including all chapters? In that case, it took him 3 videos after finding the key to finish the chapter?
@@ThePikachufan1 Slight mistake on my part. I looked through the original playlist and counted how many videos there were before the titles said chapter 4. what I didn't realize is that he counted the time between the "End of Chapter" screen and the "Chapter 4" screen as part of chapter 3. So really, it originally took 28 videos to reach the end of chapter 3. Thanks for pointing this out!
Tubba’s heart does actually have some dialogue where he comments that Bow looks pretty tasty, and she should stick around after the fights done because fighting makes him hungry. Now of course scoffs at him and encourages Mario to finish him.
The best thing about this boss is his absolutely amazing boss theme. The fight itself? Eh... It's easy, and the second phase is a purposeful joke. Honestly, just in general the music in this chapter is incredible. Between Forever Forest, Gusty Gulch, the Boos' theme, the chase theme, and Tubba's theme, this is really where the music begins to step up. Wonderful chapter all around. Best so far. This is, I think, where the game really begins to pick up. If I had to rate the chapters so far: 3, 1, 2, Prolgoue. Another reason I'm not the biggest fan of Danger/Peril strats -- they make bosses super easy. It honestly remindes me of the Superstar Saga LP, where nearly every boss died in like, a couple turns. It basically kills all tension. But eh, that's just personal preference. I'm not going to tell people how they should or shouldn't play a game.
@@ilikecurry2345 Yeah. The lack of an action command hurt the Prologue's gameplay. It's a solid introduction to the world, but that one big flaw holds it back. Chapter 2 has a great dungeon and Mt. Rugged is fun, but the desert is such a pain. Chapter 1 is just solid with nothing great or bad, and Chapter 3... well, what can I say?
Tubba Blubba's Heart is only really easy because you can easily avoid his strongest move using Bow. If you challenge yourself and don't use Bow's Outta Sight in this fight, this fight is EVIL
I never knew Tubba Blubba was based on an actual folktale! His story is obviously the type of thing you _would_ hear in a folktale, I just never knew there actually was one
Aaahhh I love the boss music. It just has such a fantastically freaky blend of fun and deviousness while being just so catchy. I get so many vibes like something is lurking out in the dark and it gives me goose bumps.... in a good way 😊
Honestly, Skolar's look reminds me of how artists' would draw Jon (maybe it's just the glasses) and I like to think that he was with us this chapter, looking down and sighing at Chugga's antics
To add on to your "Tubba Blubba is based on a heartless giant," Koshei the Deathelss is another possible inspiration, being a wizard who sealed his soul within various apparatuses, depending on the telling
You did this in your LP the last time... Using Bow's regular attack on the heart. And you get a unique dialogue interaction between the heart and your partner
I'm so glad you knew to have parakarry for that scene. I usually just use the most recent party member but the switch makes it really easy to make save points before cutscenes and see all the dialog Also gosh, tubba blubba's chase is such a good theme The signposts in windy mill are a great example of how class paper Mario does humor. I still find it weird when some posts seem to act like comedy hasn't been a major element until the modern games ...I can't believe I never thought of this until now, but now I'm imagining Kris like tubba Blubba or vice versa
Yakkey is the one thing in the PM64 Rando that isn't randomized no matter what settings you use. This is so that Chapter 3 still requires all the keys to Tubba Blubba's Castle.
No, I think it's mainly an issue of trying to figure out how the chase sequence works if Mario does not possess the Mystical Key. There's a similar instance of an obstacle in the middle of Chapter 5's "escape sequence" that you can potentially not have the key to, but they just removed the obstacle since you can't enter that room normally.
Ah, there it is! Tubba's battle these still stands as one of my favorite pieces of video game music. Gotta love chapter 3! I also always found it kinda funny how all the sentries get squashed under the falling debris, and they're just left squirming around there.
Surprised that you didn't comment on the literally heartbeat sound going on in the music for the Tubba Chase as well as the battle against his heart, it is such a great detail that ties everything together!
Probably already mentioned, but a little interaction with Tubba once he's waken up by Yakkey is that it takes him a bit to sober up from being half-awake. If you linger around, eventually the snot bubble will fly out and pop, which wakes him up, after which he will actually get off the bed and start patrolling around the room. Its a small interaction but I like it.
I got so excited when I saw you were doing this game - I'm not a consistent viewer but I LOVE the playthroughs I've watched, you're always so full of nifty trivia and all the lil tidbits I Crave To Know. Pap Mar has been my fave game since it came out, I've read so many things and played it so many times, and I knew when I saw this playthrough starting that if anyone was gonna be dropping lil info nuggets I don't already know that it'd be you, and I am not disappointed. Thanks for being just an absolute fountain of the least necessary, extremely specific, extremely situational tidbits of knowledge, I am having a great time and I treasure each new bit of information.
I'm sad chugga didn't go back and do the chase with Tubba Blubba proper after he skipped it. There's a funny thing with the chase, once you reach the lobby Tubba actually stops chasing you. He'll come into the lobby and walk over to the door but instead of continuing to chase you he just runs circles around the lobby's perimeter indefinitely.
I remember escaping the mansion and how I I found myself feeling the panic feeling like Tubba was going to come attack at any time. That was a fun sequence.
Just wanted to say, I really like the stuff you've been doing with the voice changer. Especially the chapter echo thing. Very nice. Your let's plays just keep getting higher quality as time goes on. Especially when I think back All the way to your original PM playthrough, it's genuinely impressive how far you've come. Thanks for all the years of awesome LPs and all those to come. ^_^
Yay the return the mini voice when shrunk. Also I believe in order to have the boss talk to Bow she has to attack him first. I believe she tells him to die, with a nuke....I may be thinking of something else.
When that double star points buff that only gave two where you made the joke of rolling your eyes at ends up letting you get exactly enough in the end for a level up lmao
7:07 I never noticed this game must have some sort of primitive version of normal mapping or other wise on it's sprites, because the color spring seems to reflect off of Bow dynamically. Idk how exactly they made that work but that is really cool!
Alright, THIS is what frighted me as a kid. I rented this game over and over, getting farther with each rental. I was up late at night getting pass my new record of forever forest. Get to this chapter where the ghost didn't scare me, but seeing Tubba Blubba did. And when I found out it was his heart, a creepy looking creature of a heart, I got super scared. And this is what stopped me from playing this game for about 10 years! This along with a few other things is how I developed a fear of hearts. I luckily spent time and gotten better over the years, but it was a serious trauma to me back then. I told my parents to return this game the first night of renting it!
Playing this part as a kid was something else... I obviously wan't aware of how games usually work, so I thought Tubba Blubba could manifest literally anywhere in the castle as I ventured inside. x)
The Dialogue Chugga wanted can be seen with Bow, but she has to be seen in order to trigger it. As for why the Boos couldn’t escape his body, well given he’s technically dead: it must be impossible for the dead to escape being dead & what’s the point of possessing a dead body if it doesn’t change your plane of existence. Also remember not to Bully People, it may come back to haunt you.
Dude I’ve been watching chugga for so long heck I have a fully grown beard now! from the very first paper Mario, thousand year door and super paper Mario series all the way to this one I think it’s safe to say that he’s been there since my entire childhood and I sure am glad he still there in my adult life. Keep at it chugga :) (we don’t talk about sticker star)
1:11 Didn't know about this glitch, it's hilarious! 2:40 I've checked every other partner's reaction and yeah, Parakarry's is undoubtedly the best one. 3:31 Love to hear about funny glitches, but even more so seeing them pulled off during Let's Plays! 6:36 Yep, in Japanese it's simply called まほうのカギ "mahō no kagi", Magic (not Mystical) Key. 7:21 If I recall correctly how Merlee's spell works you would've got double Star Points on the boss if you skipped these battles, but oh well. 11:19 Ooh, had no idea this was based on a fairy tale, interesting! 12:04 てきヨケール "teki yokēru" to be precise from 敵 "teki", enemy, and 避ける "yokeru", to avoid (notice the lengthening of one vowel typical of Paper Mario badges' names in Japanese). 13:09 You have to hit Tubba's Heart with Bow to see that dialogue.
Really glad you added the glitch running away from Tubba Blubba and the bosses origin Chugga! I kept thinking the whole time....is he gonna say it? He's gonna say it right? .......AHhhhhh!!! He said it!! Oh my gosh 🤯🙀 Great Video as always!! 😀
this is one of my favourite tracks in this game is the chase music in this chapter. also reminds me of a day years ago when I watched the entirety of the original playthrough of this game on a laptop at one of my mum and dad's friends at a music session night and after playing my fiddle early on in the night I had gotten bored and started to talk to one of the families older children that was older than me at the time and we started watching youtube videos and ended up showing them chapter 3 and from there went back to the start and watched the entire thing from start to finish. it is the second most memorable part of that evening the other I would rather not mention as it is only memorable if you were there to see it.
The chase music for Tubba Blubba is so good. It makes no sense but it reminds me of Run Rudolph Run from Home Alone when they were running to the airport. This was just my 10 year old brain 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, no. These Boos are the bad guys for always bullying Tubba Blubba. This is like if a group of bullies attacked an innocent kid, the kid works out and starts pummeling the bullies and the bullies go "What the hell, this isn't fair! Hey, Superman. Help us beat up this bully and we'll give you Lois Lane back!" I don't know why I quoted Charriii5's EWW on Paper Mario, but I'm sticking with it.
And they weren't even sorry for it either (though they DO promise to leave him alone after all this... which isn't much but that's at least something?). WTF. I almost kinda feel like we should've sided with Tubba on this one... :S
What a freaking great chapter. One of my favorite of the star spirits, my absolute favorite companion in all of paper Mario, a really memorable boss fight, and tons of opportunity for leveling up against the Clubbas!
Chapter 3's boss music was for a long time, my favorite theme in Paper Mario. Nowadays I don't really have a favorite but it's still one of the best in my opinion.
Awesome theme, awesome chapter, and awesome voice acting on Tubba Blubba. It was spot on! Now, master rematch?! Also, any upcoming PK Starstorm jokes?! heh
Looking back, I really like the characterization of the Boos in this game. Sure they are still the pranksters they usually are, but they are more of an organized society here who are willing to sacrifice their un-life to protect their effective monarch.
Everything Emile said about Tubba Blubba? Hard agree. And wow that theme Reminds me of probably my favorite song in Mario RPG, Booster Tower Heh, might even be within the same genre. Probably is, but I still can't pinpoint music genres on the spot
