A new battle added into Master Quest, available once you have your Diploma from the Dojo. While the fight looks very difficult (and it is), the key is understanding the Master's AI, and you'll be able to get the upper hand at him.
He starts the fight with an instakill attack. With my badge setup (mostly defensive badges), I only need to block 2 of the 3 hits to not get killed and keep going, saving me from needing a Life Shroom in my inventory.
The Master will need to take a one turn break when his HP falls below a number that's a multiple of 50 (50, 100, 150, 200), so you can use this to your advantage.
The reason why I have Deluxe Feasts and Healthy Juices in my inventory instead of all Jelly Ultras is to prevent the Master from using his mechanic to drop your defense. Once the Master falls below 200HP, if Mario has 50HP or more when he is about to attack, he will drop your defense by two before attacking. The Deluxe Feasts and Healthy Juices allow me to heal to near maximum HP without maxing out (I can use the Deluxe Feasts when my HP is in the single digits, and a Healthy Juice when my HP is in the 10s).
Finally, while the Master alternates between two attacks, it's actually a four attack cycle (the bunch/kick combo is attacks one and three, the kicks from the air are attacks two and four). After the fourth attack, it loops back to one. You need to keep this running count the entire fight, because when the Master falls below 125HP, the first aerial kick attack (attack two in the cycle) is replaced with his instakill attack). This is why I wait a while to attack when he is at 126HP, I wanted to attack him once turn two in his attack cycle had passed, that way I could get three turns in (plus an extra turn for when his HP gets under 100), before it cycles back to his instakill.
At the end of the fight, I use a Stone Cap to avoid the instakill attack (eliminating the possibility of me choking and missing a block). This triggers the Master's other defense-dropping mechanic, in which if he deals less than 8HP damage to you, he will drop your defense at the end of the turn. While my defense falls by a ton at the end due to the Stone Cap and maxing out my HP, it isn't a problem at that point since the Master is near defeated, and I need to beat him before he cycles back to his instakill.
Your reward for all of this, the coveted Triple Dip badge.
