One of the biggest additions to Paper Mario: Master Quest is its own Pit of 100 Trials, just like in The Thousand Year Door. This is the fight of the Pit Boss, which is an illusion of Peach and Twink.
At the beginning of the fight, I didn't Tattle immediately, since the Shadow Twink has 0 defense at the start, so I wanted to maximize damage done by using Fan Smack and then a Jump Attack. The Shadow Peach is able to increase the Shadow Twink's Attack and Defense (they're boosted at the same time, although you only see the notice saying that defense has been increased).
The reason you see me use two Charges and then Ironbonk with Goombario is that it actually costs less FP to do two Charges and Ironbonk (4+4+6), as opposed to three Ironbonks in a row (6+6+6), for the same damage output (an Ironbonk Charged twice deals 9+9 for 18, three Ironbonks would also total 18, at 3+3 per attack). I use Mario and D-Down Pound to take out the Shadow Peach while Goombario focuses on the Shadow Twink.
For Shadow Peach, her one attack on Mario is some kind of toxic kiss, it can inflict Mario with a random status condition if not blocked. While it seems simple to block, the timing is different by a few frames each turn, so it's actually a little hard to block, like the Crystal King's ice breath. This is why I have Feeling Fine on the fight, so in the event of a missed block (I did better than I thought I would here), I wouldn't be catching a nasty status condition from the kiss. The fight becomes significantly harder if you miss even just one block on the kiss without Feeling Fine.
At the end of the fight, I reveal the prize for clearing the Pit and demonstrate how it's used. Now we travel......with our miiiiiiinds!

I hate how you didn't get any star points for winning the battle. However, I think it was because both HP and FP and even BP already reached it's maximum amount.

It's on the 70th floor of the Pit, so a relatively late game, if not endgame badge. And your first sentence sums up Master Quest, lol.

@@sonicdoommario I’m trying out Master Quest Jr and it’s much more balance than the regular master quest so I’m enjoying it Also question. I’m using project 64 do you know how to troubleshoot the stopping emulation error message ? Idk if ur using project 64 but I like to fix it so I can stream this one day

Is there a reason that you chose to use D-Down Pound instead of D-Down Jump? Does it cost more FP, more BP, or what?

The Hammer/Jump badges in the game were modified to try to make the Hammer more on par with Jumping (since in the original Paper Mario, with the right setup, jumping could deal more damage than the hammer because of being able to hit twice). In Master Quest, D-Down Jump was weakened to still pierce defense but its base power was -1 from your normal jump (so with the Ultra Boots, it would deal 2/2 instead of 3/3/ without any boosts). D-Down Pound still deals its base damage from the original game. Although looking at this battle in hindsight, I think Power Smash would have been a better choice than D-Down Pound. The FP cost would have been less and it would have dealt more damage (in Master Quest, Power Smash was buffed to deal +3 from your hammer's base attack from +2 in the original game, and the Dark Peach has 2 defense, so you'd still be able to net +1 attack from your base hammer against her). By comparison, Power Jump remained +2 from your base jump's combined attack (so 4/6/8 total damage depending on your boots), so these two badges also show how the Hammer Badges were buffed to be more on the level with their jump equivalents.

@@sonicdoommario so in short, they made D-Down Jump have -1 attack also known as pure garbage because -1 attack on boots is insane, D-Down Pound didn't change making it better than a Jump option surprisingly, and Power Smash was the actual surprise best option all along because it was buffed to deal an extra +1 damage, which counters the 2 Defense? thank you master quest very cool

@@kristhepermanentlyexhausted D-Down Jump's attack power isn't -1, it's -1 from your jump's base attack. For example, your Ultra Boots have a base power of 3 (so you hit an enemy twice for 6 damage), D-Down Jump still ignores defense but its starting point is -1 from your boots (so 2 with the Ultra Boots). With the right badge setup it could be made more useful. Yeah, Power Smash would have been better than D-Down Pound in this fight. Assuming no attack boosts from badges or charges: -D-Down Pound would deal 6 damage against Shadow Peach (6 is the base damage of the Ultra Hammer and D-Down Pound ignores enemy defense). -A normal hammer attack would deal 4 damage (6 base damage - Peach's 2 defense). -Power Smash would deal 7 damage (it starts out at 9 as Power Smash would be +3 from the Ultra Hammer's base power of 6, minus Peach's 2 defense). Also, the FP cost of Power Smash is lower than D-Down Pound and I believe costs 1 less BP, which I could allocate elsewhere (maybe a Deep Focus).

So, if Illusion Twink's Atk and Def were being boosted by 1 each turn, why was it always either dealing 0 damage or 5 to Mario? Also, does this mod change Goombario Multibonk with Ironbonk or how did that happen?

The 0 damage attack actually hits the partner, not Mario. Fortunately the timing for attacking both Mario and the partner is the same, so if you block at the right time, you're good. In Master Quest, yes, Multibonk was replaced with Ironbonk, which makes sense given that Power Bounce was weakened in Master Quest. Believe it or not Multibonk was a bit functionally broken in the original Paper Mario, it would only "work" once per battle ("work" in the sense that you could hit an enemy multiple times until you missed an action command/got capped), if you tried to use it more than once in the same battle, it would end after only two hits (as in, just getting off one action command). Ironbonk is a really good replacement, it ignores defense like D-Down Jump AND can hit fiery/spiky enemies. Turns out to be one of the best lategame/postgame moves.

For the Happy Mask Guy (my nickname for it, lol) I think I went all-offense on it, using some attack-boosting badges and Multi-Smashing it to death. For the partner, I believe I had Bow using Fan Smack every turn. IIRC it has 0 defense, so it's easy to get a lot of damage against it.

this video just makes me wish project64, paper mario roms, and master quest werent buggy unplayable messes requiring like 5 manual patches and going deep into settings to fix things that shouldve already been done by the devs, especially when the devs list the 50+ things you have to do, showing that they couldve just done it themselves its like how Cube World literally couldnt be launched because one of the most important bits of code was completely broken and had to be modded back into a functional state

This isn't something mod creators can control. How emulation works is it tries to be an machine, so in this case the emulator is trying to be an N64, the mods do more then the N64 can so it requires you to adjust settings. It is really simple to do. In fact most of those settings exist to help performance or account for weird games.

There's a new area west of Goomba Village. There's a new path in the area that Mario lands in after falling from Peach's Castle in the beginning of the game, all you need to access the area is the Hammer (there's a block on the path there). Also in the same area as the Pit is a new dungeon that's accessible once you get to Peach's Castle at the end of the game.

If the partners take damage, they are knocked out and miss a set number of turns depending on how much damage they took.
