Colored Pencils: Certain spaces damage you Rubber Band: Bands replace some arrows Hole Punch: Your max HP decreases Tape: The board is stuck together Scissors: *DIE*
Just did this battle yesterday and I broke the cover on the first turn. I had no idea how I managed to dodge the one-hit kill for the rest of the battle. The jerk keeps taking away my opportunity to use the Vellumentals, so I had to rely on the extra hit panels and legendary hammers to finish him.
@@KitsuneChiSan same I broke it on the first turn and when he was preparing his scissor attack my dumbass decided to JUMP on unsheathed BLADES as *PAPER!!!!* I DONT KNOW WHAT MADE ME THINK THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA
@@sirrbryan Oh, I know how you feel. I didn't have too much of an issue with the scissors despite the tedious battle of just using the hammer and no Ice Vellumental. But the other boss battles, I definitely stressed a lot due to time and did stupid crap like jumping on the Fire Vellumental multiple times with the wrong boots.
I can only imagine what went through those Toads' heads when they saw Mario, hero of the Mushroom Kingdom and all iterations of it, practically Swan Dive toward rapidly-snipping scissor blades.
You know that feeling when a Twitch/RU-vid Streamer is making a massive mistake? Those Toads must have been like the chat, spamming pepeLaughs and lul.
The Scissor boss even had 3 attack patterns: one normal, one try to trick you to jump too early, and one just go straight and attack you directly. But it is really fun when you managed to avoid all these attacks... And to be fair, some other bosses are very annoying too, like removing the icons on the panels, freezing the panels...
So, get this: In my first battle with Scissors, on my first turn after he removed the cover, I made a route that took me to an action panel, picking up an extra move along the way. Thinking his blades were considered “spiked”, I pick two Legendary Iron Boot attacks. Mario makes the first jump- BAM! Mario was sliced in half upon contact. 999 damage. Instant KO. But I had a 1-UP Mushroom on me, so I was revived. Then I remembered I selected TWO Legendary Iron Boots. You can probably guess what happened next.
I know that people aren’t too keen on the idea of Paper Mario leaning more towards the paper aspect, but you got to appreciate that it allows a Mario game to get away with brutal and morbid things that you would never see in the average Mario game, like creating a monster made out of “people’s” faces and Mario getting split in half. Rated E for everyone.
Look,as someone who started with TTYD(and enjoyed all the 5 Main games),I have to admit:I honestly think it's Genius for the same reasons you just said+it adds a lot to the game's charm, the use of the Outlines makes every Character pop out so damn well, allows them to create fun puzzles and Villains like Olly or the Black Paint, who may not be as Complex as Count Bleck, but manage to feel more threatening than anything the 1st Trilogy had to offer(although the Villains WERE definetely threatening) since they literally play with their World's logic "Who cares if the Shadow Queen is literally Genderbent Satan when you can just tape her coffin or cut her head off?" "Oh no,Dimentio has the Chaos Heart! Let me just suck his Colors away real quick..." "Bowser is now invincible thanks to the Star Rod! Too bad Hole Punch ate it and it's practically useless now..."
The amount of stress and anxiety I have when scissors’ blades are wide open and his body coming at you with full speed and you are not allowed to miss is so overwhelming
And it requires very precise timing with action button. One frame too early or one frame too late and CHOP!! Better bring full inventory of those 1-up mushrooms.
Platinum Star Yeah. You can get one once you help unfold a certain road at Picnic Road and he tell you to go somewhere for a free prize which the prize is a 1-up shroom. If the 1-up shroom gets used up, you can find more in the weapon/item shop in Toad Town
I’ve played a lot of Nintendo games and if I were Olivia, I would never try to approach an enemy *(especially one that can destroy you in one hit)* to check if they are unconscious
While I did think it was crazy to give a boss an instant kill attack, at least they give you a fighting chance and didn’t handle it like Color Splash. Use the thing card too early or not at all in that game and the boss just kills you outright.
Kirbymon Every Koopaling boss. If you search something along the lines of “paper mario color splash koopaling instant kills” you’ll get a playlist of all 7 cases of being killed for not using the right card.
TheNintendoNerd 1985 Maybe so, though the point still stands to a degree. Especially if you somehow don’t have the necessary card or used it at the wrong time
I didn’t know he would unsheathe himself, and I really liked the tension of the one-hit kill so I always immediately destroyed the sheath. You don’t actually get any ice vellumental magic circles if you destroy the sheath early.
Do you know what this fight means? It means that Paper Mario could've been jumping over his foes throughout the entire series, but he's either so honorable or confident that he chose not to. The Dual-bladed Dualist isn't the only one with a somewhat obvious secret weapon.
@@squidpile Funny thing is I didn't know the scissors had a 1 shot kill move the first time I fought him because I didn't destroy his case before he got bored. (I assumed that the thousand fold arms would be terrible in this battle from the gate, and I also assumed his handle was his weak spot). By the time he unsheathed himself he was below half health, I only needed to dodge his final cut attack 3 times during the entire battle, it was just my instinct to dodge his attacks when the warning prompts me to plus the ice vellumental made it easier, the tip envelope reassured me that the thousand fold arms only work while he's frozen so I made it through this fight pretty easily.
@@sigmadraconis8207 so in the English version hes battle obsessed with a giant ego and in the Japanese version hes a Neckbeard but made out of the Katana's
This was easily the most fun boss fight for me. I had seen this fight in particular and since breaking the cover early sounded like a hard mode, I tried it on my first fight against it. Trying not to mess up on the Final Cuts was exhilarating. I had bad luck with panels and ended up never using vellumentals, just hammers and the occasional mushroom. Favorite boss in the game.
Is not surprising when you find out that intelligent system made fire emblem thracia 776 before paper mario and it was the hardest snes game is unfair.
Ironically scissors, being an intense battle, I never died to, though of the main tool bosses, I found it to be the most fun, kept me on the edge the whole time Edit: oh wait I don't think I died to tape
I beat him first try but lost twice on the rematch while attempting to get the bowser trophy. The first loss was because I’d never tried jumping the first time, so I tried it the second time, the second death was a mistimed jump
Scissors is one of the only bosses I've faced who legitimately scares me. I've fought the Shadow Queen and Super Dimentio. I've bested Dark Matter/Zero and Void Termina, Ultra Necrozma and Enternatus and, going outside of Nintendo, took down Yaldabaoth and Azathoth. But no boss I've ever fought/watched gives me the sense of dread Scissors does; when I was going for the Bowser treasure, Scissors was the last boss I fought, and I have not rematched it since. It frightens me that much. And, strangely, I don't actually consider it a difficult boss (the Fire and Ice Vellumentals, Rubber Band and Tape all gave me much more trouble), and my time for beating it is one of my best; I just don't like facing it!
Yeah, if you talk to a hammer brother after the fight, it says something to Mario along the lines of "Looks like you are the first paper to ever beat scissors in history!"
@@sapofazbemechaebom1594 I mean if you want to go that technical route, you also use a little strength to cut paper with scissors, not going to cut paper very efficiently just slapping the paper with scissors. So they're on equal footing and yet the paper still wins.
I didn’t know you could freeze it, no wonder I got so mad during this battle. Tbh it was probably because I purposefully took of his cap in the first turn
I like how one toad in the background said "Take off the cover! It'll be okay!" ...well actually he's right, when you take off the cover quick enough, you can go for a damageless run.
4:23 At This Exact Moment, All The Toad's Brains When Numb Wondering Why The Hell Mario Would *SWAN DIVE* Right Into The Loving Blades Of Some Scissors
can I just saying, when you don't break the case and the scissors decides to bring out his blade, the animation of him sliding his blades out of the case just puts immediate terror and dread down my spine.
I really thought the iron boots would resist the instant kill damage when it tilted upwards when he jumped but boy was I so wrong. So much so that I was like "WHAT BUT IRON SHOES ARE RESISTANT TO SHARP THINGS"
I fought this fight while replaying the game and not a single velumental card appeared for the fight so I beat him by spamming hurl hammers and it killed him 😂
i used i 1-up mush on this fight right before i could get the final blow, and when i revived from the dead just after he killed me and i killed him it felt badass ( i had broken the cover from the start so i made it STUPID UNESSICARLY difficult on myself)
the boss fight is much more difficult if you break the cover first. there are no magic circles AT ALL, and the one you can use does nothing. alongside that, it's very rare you'll ever get a + action or X attack panel. you just have to learn all his movements, get ready in case he decides to juke you out, and pray that your legendary hammers will see through to the end. if not, you may as well give in, because that means you have little to no chance of winning. take this from someone who actually had to do the boss fight like this.
Game: Do not break the cover! Me: Don't tell me what to do! Game: You'll die... Me: Wanna bet? Game: ... Me: *Wins fight the hard way* Scissors: *No comment, too shocked to talk or move*
0:45 *This* is how a boss with an advantage fairly fights: by covering their advantage! A good fight is a fight where the boss and the player are on equal footing
I felt so goddamn cool during this fight cuz I was able to constantly freeze him and the one time he caught me off guard I somehow jumped right before the attack
Please tell me im not the only one that I laughed so hard of how at the end of the fight i managed to beat the Scissors and after I did, it just became shocked without saying a word and then dies. Hard fight, but worth the outcome XD.
This is one of the best bosses available on the nintendo switch. If you've mastered this game's system and know your options, you only have to dodge it's attack ONCE.
Me and my friend playing Rock, Paper, Scissors. I choose Paper, he chooses Scissors. Friend: I win. Me: *Shows this video of a piece of paper, smashing the shit out of a giant sentient pair of scissors* Check. Mate. Friend: *Surprised Pikachu Face*
The fight gets REALLY tense once the sheath is gone, especially since its not the same timing every time, Scissors WILL try to throw you off your game, and the instant it hits a single attack, you're flat out dead. And if you break the sheath early, the game takes that as you challenging yourself and thus, removes the Vellumental Circles, meaning you HAVE to be confident in your ability to dodge multiple instant kill attacks, for multiple turns straight, as you whittle down Scissors' HP, knowing one mistake is outright fatal.
Favorite boss in the game so far. Only reason he took me 2 tries was because I didn't think I'd still get one shot when trying to use Iron Boots on his blades lol
Ngl, seeing Bowser in that state really puts him in his place. Maybe Peach should learn how to fold like that, so she wouldn't have to keep calling Mario all the time. Seriously, plumbers aren't supposed to be knights, y'know
Wow! This is like the only time I’ve seen Kamek nice to Mario. Same with Bowser and his son. Well unlike the origami king, Mario and Bowser are actually more of a committed relationship. They are nothing without each other and need each other. Having a nemesis is a huge commitment and if the enemy antagonizes another good guy, the original hero will feel heartbroken.
