At the latest, that video will be coming on my birthday, so yay! And I think that either Gen 1 or the Sonic'06/Sticker Star of Pokémon will be at the very bottom of the list.
I remember them forcing him to talk good about the game and when they said he could stop, his only response was, "F***!" It must be really bad to break a Social Good persona like him.
Oh Emile...I wish I understood that feeling.... But I somehow just CAN'T hate this game!, I just hate the limitations it was forced into...also Kirsti reminds me of myself... Unlikable...bitchy... Trying to act high and mighty when she really isn't....and yet there are still people like Mario who care enough to help
It may look like the first three But It's nothing like them, Bad Story, Barely any compelling characters, all of the characters that were good like Bowser is just ruined in the game, Battles ( The Main Factor of the Gameplay ) HAS NO POINT! It's so bad it doesn't deserve to be with the rest of the Paper Mario Games and Super Paper Mario was the true conclusion to the Paper Mario Trilogy!
Nicholas Peh. Meh, I see Sticker Star and Color Splash as one off adventures that took place after SPM. But I really did like Color Splash though. I think that we'll get the Paper Mario game we want on Switch. Nintendo is doing everything right so far. We got the 3D Mario game we wanted, we're getting the Mario Party game we wanted and we're getting the Mario Tennis game we wanted. It would be the dumbest thing ever if they continued to experiment with Paper Mario.
ASquared No. Chugga played this game to completion and still passionately hates it. He’d agree that it’s a “You need to see it to believe it,” matter for how awful the game is. Unless you’re saying he’s triggered by the game’s existence, in which case, you’re absolutely right
Oh I agree with this dude. I won’t go and say it’s the worst game I ever played and I would call it just plain bad, but the decisions for this game were so stupid and dumb it makes it a major joke to call this in the PM series. I loath this game with a passion
I love it. We are entitled to our own opinions, but dont discourage trying out disliked games. Let them play it and see if they like it. If they dont, that's ok. If they do, that's also ok.
Luigi’s Sidekick I hate Sticker Star for how badly it stained the legacy of Paper Mario. The first two are beloved, Super is perhaps my favorite among games I consider underrated (that was one of the least formulaic love stories I’ve ever seen) and it was unfair how much hate people gave it. Color Splash had fun writing, but Paper Mario used to be so much more
Arkan NOA Dude. Get Dolphin emulator and download an ISO of Super Paper Mario. I don't care what you're doing, drop it and go do it. The game's absolutely fantastic and everybody needs to play it. :D
Welp, it all depends on what the majority of people want. I don't know which is better, but I think at the very least more people are tolerable of this new style than those whom are not, so this new style shouldn't be ruled out.
It's wild how much simply adding EXP and a basic, non-consumable attack would have made such an enormous difference. It wouldn't have turned it into a masterpiece or anything, but at least it wouldn't be an utter waste of time anymore
Adding some imput, it would have been interesting if the stickers were what replaced badges to some extent, have your normal and eventual upgradable attacks with the jump, hammer and block commands, have stickers to act as one-use badges to perform specials like the Hammer Throw or Mutli Bounce. Have a rarity to the stickers, like from bronze to gold or something with bronze being found easily in the overworld or cheap, and gold being rare and expensive. Bring back EXP to give battles a point where each enemy gives you a certain amount of EXP, (similar to Super Paper Mario) to increase the HP and how many stickers you could use at one time every level up and while it wouldn't be the best battling system would fix up a lot of issues with the battling aspects
Man, the original paper mario had a lot of flavor and love baked in to stretch the Mario world, TTYD has beautiful music and great comedy all the way through with cohesive and unique environments, story and progression, and Super Paper Mario throws traditional paper mario partners and systems out the window, substituting them with completely off-the-wall wacky ideas such as your first bowser team-up, and creating some environments and interactions so completely unique they're unbelievable unless you've seen them yourself. The story is unquestionably the most complex story Mario has ever seen, and the tragedies and horrors that unfold are quite impressive for their medium. To be followed by such lowbrow, uninspired games as they have is depressing, and makes me feel bad for the artists and developers that were stuck in this sinking ship. I hope it can still turn around.
What you mean the game that put Samus into cryosleep for years. Oh boy. Messed. Messed and fucking messed! It has also become an unwritten rule that samus should never *E V E R* talk again.
Funny thing is people like to rip into Team Ninja for ruining Samus' character but the only hand they had in other M was the gameplay. The story was entirely Nintendo's doing.
Did anybody else think that Color Splash got boring? I tried to play through it again, but it didn't keep me interested. It's good. It's also something that I probably won't be finishing.
Tuxman05 I found Color Splash fun to play despite the battle system still having problems. I played it all the way through and it still blows my mind that I used to be so angry about it because of all the bad things I heard about Sticker Star
I had a feeling you would unleash fury on this game. *Anyone* who knew how the previous games were would rip this entire thing to literal shreds!! In fact, your hatred for the game was *so strong* at one point,it cause my computer to almost *crash*!!!
@@Rosie_Cozy I played it and I loved it but I WAS a kid though around 2012 so I can't really point out the bad things but it was annoying having to search of playthroughs to unravel the secrets that I was stuck on and needing to know which 'thing' stickers is required in order to defeat bosses .
The general concensus with Fates is that the gameplay is good, but the story is awful. So depending on what you value in a game, it could be really good or really bad.
I'm not sure if I've seen this comment before, and that it's what inspired me, but I actually did kinda wrote my own script for a Blessed or Messed on FE Fates in docs form.
Oh boy, I always dread talking about this game because I'm in the defending camp, and if Sticker Star gets brought up at all, I only see the worst. All that aside, it did a great thing for me; introduce me to RPGs and was the reason I wanted a 3DS, which is one of the first consoles I've ever owned and it just so happens to be my personal favorite. I still carry it around with me even after getting a Switch.
Oh hey, fancy meeting you here! I didn't take you to be the type to like this game. But if anything, at least this made me want to get into the other Paper Mario games a bit more (though even looking back, I knew it didn't live up to the hype).
@@coolssh3979Oh, hey there. I also played a couple Paper Mario games after this, but have yet to beat them. Namely 64 and Color Splash. The latter I was so fed up with it's combat I stopped playing, and it's a shame cuz I hear people love everything else about this game, but I couldn't stand the combat for the life of me. 64 I just had no motivation to continue, which is more of a me problem than the game.
If RPGs aren't your thing, I suggest Super Paper Mario. That one's my personal favorite for its storytelling and characters. It feels different from the other games in a way I would say is good.
God damn... I have been blinded by this game and my age when I played it, 10 years old. If only I could've saw the light before but you brought it to me. There's no god damn wonder I don't play it anymore
Chris Pratt Mario's Voice: *Revealed* News Article: "There Was No Chance Chris Pratt's Mario Was Going To Be Good" Everyone who is on board with Chris Pratt Mario: 1:02 - 1:05
Another thing I at least found infuriating was the boss fights. Unless you had a specific item, boss fights were just a slog. And there is no hint as to what you might need before the fight either. That really contrasts with Hooktail Castle from TTYD where you were given tips on how to defeat her throughout the castle.
@Desolark The Feathered You know, it's crap like this that makes me appreciate the Mario & Luigi series more. While the fanbase for that series has its fair share of complainers about specific games, very rarely do I ever see someone just completely shit on someone else's taste in video games with no sense of remorse. I didn't really like Sticker Star either, but insulting someone over liking a game that you don't is low pretty damn low, but sadly the standard fare for the Paper Mario fanbase.
I didn’t think sticker star was that bad, my main gripe with it is how obscure the solutions are to some of the quests that are puzzles. It sucked but not that amount of suck. I’d say my final tally is 16(good)-18(bad). Great video as always. I was waiting a while for you to do color splash, but it seems that isn’t happening.
I'm surprised you didn't mention how some battles require you to have a specific sticker to beat them and that the game never hints to where said sticker could be. I hated that the most. It just felt like I was punished for nothing but playing the game instead of being punished for making a mistake. Bosses are a test of skill, not another dumb puzzle to slap into a game with optional enemies and more dumb puzzles which AGAIN require a specific sticker with zero hints to know where to go to get the sticker!
I'll admit that this game really took a giant step back for the series, I don't really mind it as a game on it's own. I find myself enjoying it whenever I play it.
Color Splash, having played it myself, is actually a huge step up from sticker star in terms of level design, satisfaction, music, graphics (of course), and writing. I'd honestly recommend it if you play it with an open mind.
You forgot to mention one thing. The one thing this game has over TTYD. It has actual level design. By that, I mean there isn’t a entire chapter where you walk back and forward in a straight line six times. This game has real level design, and is the main reason I’d play over TTYD any day.
This probably doesn’t at all contribute to the topic of this video,, But though it was an accidental hit and it’s been almost 4-5 years since you wrote it- that “ A_one, are you? “ creepypasta was lit :00 That’s all I have to say,, I’ll see myself out.
I knew this would happen someday Quick answer: Paper mario sticker star is a good handheld Paper mario game but a poor Paper mario game in general if that makes sense Color splash tho......
I disagree. Color Splash is an extremely big improvement over this. Battles actually mean something, the writing',s a lot batter, and the overall game is a lot more fun in general
Color splashs battle system was even more clunky, the game used an arbitrary level-to-level system, had a generic characterless villain and very few characters, the boss battles were merely "come back with the weakness", the toad infestation has yet to be stopped out, and the story is still mediocre, directionless and empty. The game has ALL the laziness and uncreativity sticker star had, yet it has an obnoxious as hell fanbase who think that because it's not totally horrible people have no right to bash it.
You know I was expecting the messed and I fully understand why even though I personally still like this game. I just came to say one thing: SONIC FORCES BLESSED OR MESSED PLEASE!!!!! Eventually. Not next video because the Pokémon generations is top priority for you but please, eventually.
You said the game "Let you down" at 10:24 xD P.S. The game also ran around, deserted you, made you cry, said goodbye to you, lied to you, and hurt you Rickroll :D
To remind people who are probably saying that this was messed to begin with and that Logan shouldn't have even bothered with a video, as he stated in said video, this series is taking content with mixed opinions and identifying what is actually good and actually bad about them. So while this game is bad, it's important to remember what was actually good about it. I'd wager if they actually fixed the battle system, the thing with stickers, and actually gave us the Bowser we all love in both Paper Mario & Mario & Luigi, this game probably wouldn't have gotten the hate it did.
And that's your opinion. And ya know what, I respect your opinion, you saw something in this game that others didn't. So while I may disagree with it, I respect it. And that's the point of this series, to give and see others opinions on games like this.
Blueblade13 Yeah I agree, hope Paper mario switch has something like the first 2 games, and this is coming from someone who's first PM is Super paper mario.
@@alijahaskew4644 As of the time of writing this, I haven't beat it yet (am currently in the middle of taking out the Purple Streamer). But from what I played so far, Origami King is definitely a solid game in it own right and the combat system is hands down the best of all the post-TTYD PM games (despite the lack of XP). I definitely would have preferred it if they went back to the original style of Paper Mario but Origami King is far from a bad experience.
Doing a video on Color Splash will be interesting. In my eyes it fixed almost everything this game fucked up so badly. Also I’m amazed you didn’t mention how bullshit the boss fights are, since you practically need a specific item to win at most of them, and the lack of hints in game make this a huge issue. I got stuck multiple times
There’s one other thing that I have a problem with: there is almost no tutorial for most of the major mechanics. This game is like the opposite of Dream Team in that Dream Team held your hand through every single mechanic while this one just throws you in. Culture shock from most current gen games being too hand holdy aside, this game expects you to guess at what action commands help your moves (which might not be bad if not for limited inventory) but some of the puzzle solutions are in very cryptic places too. Kersti is certainly no fortune teller and her “hints” either devolve into “I’m just going to complain and give you no hints” or “ you want to go to world 4? Maybe you should check out the hidden room in the Yoshi Sphinx and the secret door in the world 3 shop area”. It has no rhyme or reason to it.
My biggest problem with this game? THE FINAL BOSS! Hey, I've got an idea, lets have a system where you have a limited number of punch and kick moves. And then make a boss that is completely invulnerable to kicks. And imagine going into the bossfight thinking, "Maybe I should get some jumps too, because I need to make sure that when I get to the final boss I have a move for anything he can throw at me." Bowser has 1000 HP. He heals multiple times through the fight. He summons minions and there are stage hazards that require specific things to counter. AND, you WILL run out of hammers, because he's a damage sponge of a boss on top of all that. So you get stuck in the final section with like 20 jumps that you can't use because BOWSER CAN'T BE JUMPED ON! I'm already limited in inventory space. And then I'm limited on the items I can use. And then I'm limited on what basic attacks I can use against the final boss! WHY!? Why do this!? It creates a boss where instead of testing players on their skill, you're testing them on their ability to lose, and then go back and get the items they need. It's like getting to the final boss of a game, and discovering you can't win because you wanted to fight him with your sword and shield, when the game wanted you to instead fight him with a crossbow. But you don't know that and don't have a crossbow because nothing suggested earlier that you would need one. All the bosses in the game are like this. You enter, you fight, and then the game reveals that you can't win unless you picked up the golden toilet paper roll 5 levels ago that was hidden behind the toilet. But you wouldn't know this because it doesn't have any proper hints. So you have to die, look up a walkthrough, and then go back and do the fight properly. It's insulting.
CringeMaster 3000 same... it was pretty boring after replaying it... gosh I wish I had Super Paper Mario AND Color Splash. Both games seem WAY better...
Ill be honest...I actually really like this game. Now before you say anything: yes I played other Paper Mario games (thousand year door and Super to be persice and I absolutely loved those two). Ill also admit that this game has a ton of terrible flaws. The only one among them that really bugs me though is the fact that you cant attack normally, which could have been a really easy fix. However even with all of these flaws I think this game is still quite enjoyable. First of all: Damn I love the music! Most of the themes are really catchy (I especially love the music that plays in the first world, as well as the themes of kameks and bowser jr.). The overworld puzzle solving is pretty fun, and I quite enjoy some of the level gimmicks( the roller coaster, lift etc.). I also quite enjoyed Findung every sticker and thing for the sticker museum. On another note, the fact that you had to have the right sticker for each boss was pretty interesting to me and I remember trying to figure out what works against each boss being actually quite fun. Also the combat system is just pure fun with all the action commands and such (granted you dont get anything for it but I just enjoyed it so much I ran into enemies on purpose). Finally the Story: Its pretty shit but I was enjoying the game as a whole enough that it didnt bother me too much. Ill be honest thats pretty much all just my personal taste so yeah... I think this games biggest issue is in its title. If it wouldnt be paper Mario people wouldnt care as much and perhaps more people would enjoy it. But it is paper Mario which is why it had to live up to the legacy of its predocessors, and the game just is not comparable to the other games in the Franchise...When I first played this game and saw the intro I was irritated since I had hoped to get something like thousand year door. But after I while of playing I stopped asociating it with that game and progressively I started to like it more and more. I See it less like a traditional paper mario now and more like something else entirely. Do I want another Paper Mario in the style of the first two games? Absolutely! I would love to see something New out of this Franchise. But this doesnt mean I cant appreciate Sticker star for what it is. (On a final note: Sorry for my grammar. German auto correction does not go well with English...)
I'm more or less in the same boat, except for two things: 1. I knew it was different going in. I didn't care. 2. I still would say that it's a Paper Mario game seeing as how it still hits many of the same beats in spite of the changes.
So. I liked this game. Not as paper Mario, but as a game. I'll admit that the battles are mostly pointless, and the story doesn't exist, but i like what is there.
Fedora Gamer Fedora Gamer the series after TTYD just didn’t know what to do with itself. I appreciate them with trying something different, but what were the things Paper Mario was known for? Quirky characters, a storyline that was entertaining, battle mechanics that you could experiment with, and a world that felt lived in. I was hyped to know that Paper Mario was coming to the 3DS and was one the reasons I bought the thing, but when I found out that there were no party members or badges of any kind I grew worried. I bought it day 1 and completed it and while I don’t regret it, I will say the experience was lacking to say the least. You can like what you want, but to see a game series abandon the things fans loved about it makes me think the devs can skimp on stuff like story and characters. At least in Color Splash the dialogue was the main reason people liked it.
Fedora Gamer the worst part is that this game and Olaf’s Adventure got Nintendo Selects in America, but Star Fox 64 3D is locked to Europe. That’s just mean.
Hm. I personally loved the game. Loved the quick battle system for coins to gather the Stickers I woupd mostly need in battles, you cannot avoid every battle and sometimes you need to do battles to grind for more powerful Stickers, Things were pretty obvious to use against bosses, and World 3 wasn't that bad. The puzzles in the game where clever, which adds a lot of explortation and secrets to be found. And I did enjoy the story. Any could find it bland but to me, it feels mote like a reboot of the first Paper Mario game. I liked Kersti and the personality from enemies and Toads were pretty cool, though, done better in Color Splash. I say the only thing that bugged me is the limited amount of Stickers I can hold, but other than that, it's a great Paper Mario game. Huge unpopular opinion I have, but I would recommend it to give it a try.
My stance on Sticker Star: if it’s your first Paper Mario game, you might think it’s pretty good game. But of you played any of the games before, it’s a HUGE dog turd on the otherwise spotless carpet of the spin-off series.
Yep, guilty here for it being my first Paper Mario game ^^; Heh, I thought is a really fun game and I have a lot of good memories with it.. when I learned it was so heavily hated, I was so surprised... but once I learned about the others in the series, I understood why. The first 3 were spectacular RPGs and Sticker Star... is Sticker Star. On its own, it's a good game, but when compared with the others.. it really is trash :( And let me just say right now: Color Splash is milessss better than Sticker Star! I remember when I first played it, I was just constantly saying in my head how it's such an improvement from SS! Not on the first 3 level by *_ANY_* means, but still a step in the right direction ^^ And coming from someone who _likes_ SS, I can honestly say this video is hilarious, I agree with most of it and it's the WORST Mario RPG :)
I have never played Paper Mario: Sticker Star, but it's no dispute that it's the purest definition of polarizing. The first three games had good stories, fun companions, and a decent battle system. It also helps that the NPC variety and locations visited are memorable. Now, I have a habit of defending games that range from passable (Mario Party 9) to unpopular (Mario Party 10) to forgettable (PokePark Wii). Frankly, I might as well have enjoyed Sticker Star if I got it in November 2012, but I couldn't afford it. I am more interested in Color Splash, however. Paper Mario: Sticker Star looks like it has stuff going for it, but between it and its successor, I am more interested to play the latter. It has a slightly better story, a modestly improved battle system, and just a bit more oomph overall. That said, if we get a new Paper Mario on the Switch, I can imagine that it won't hurt to learn from the backlash that Sticker Star had and give us something more like 64 or TTYD. Good Blessed or Messed video, Fawful's Minion.
I think they didn't capitalize on any criticism from SS because by the time Paper Mario 4 actually came out, Color Splash was kind of far in development, making it possibly too late to turn back
