My opinion on what paper to keep in stock and why. This will be different depending on customers and paper suppliers. I keep the largest paper size in stock of several paper weights, and finishes. I have at least a few thousand sheets of most popular kinds of paper in stock. Larger amounts can be ordered and delivered next day.
I use Sappi Flo paper for gloss coated sheets. I keep Accent Opaque Uncoated sheets in stock too. Tango is my go to for c1s and c2s. I also keep a bit of Springhill colors in stock. I forgot o mention the NCR carbonless, I keep 2-part, 3-part and 4-part in stock. Using Challenge Paper cutter to cut paper for digital printing. Getting ready for next week, its gonna be crazy... stay tuned.

I could be studying for my finals right now. Instead, I'm listening to this guy talk about paper for 12 minutes

I just started using 16pt c2s tango, but am switching to 130# Kelly paper brand. I do very little text stuff, mostly cover. The issue I'm having is finding a good glossy cover. I use dull/satin as my "matte" option and the glossy I've found looks almost identical. Paper has been one of the hardest things to pick as a new printer owner. Thanks for sharing what you do.

I have found that most of my customers look at the price and quality of printing. They rarely inspect/complain about the paper.

I'm doing OK with the binge viewing to catch up and still find this as fascinating as the first one I saw. I wouldn't mind seeing some sketches/images with an explanation of how you cut the sheets down to get the sizes you want with the grain going in the preferred direction. I'm sure that for all the guys in the printing industry, your explanations are perfectly fine. But as a non printer guy, I keep getting lost without the aid of visuals. Cheers from Australia.

@@justaprinter Not just that, I was a bit surprised that 3/4 of paper you have for books wasn't cream-colored.

You can get Futura 18 x 12 or 19 x 13 #100 Gloss text or #80. It is the only cut sheet gloss text to come short grain. We use it all the the time for perfect bound books. Also there is a perfect bound glue by Spiel in NY that works as good a PUR glue. It is amazing you can even use on long grain and the pages stay. But it is costly $14.00 per lbs
@justaprinter
@justaprinter 3 года назад
Really? I didn't realize you can get that short grain. Thanks!

What if I want to print pdf from a book and want to stick into those clear sheets & put in binder after. What paper would you recommend? I want something a little thicker than normal printer paper. Can an at home printer print on Gloss paper?

Hi! What kind of paper would you recommend for either a gloss or matte hard cover children’s book? It will roughly be about 8.5x11 with large pictures inside. I’m having trouble picking out paper and was hoping you would have some suggestions, ty 😁👍🏻✨

Hi, This was very helpful. Would you advise me? I want to print a 9"X6", 960 page novel using adobe InDesign CS5. No Color! No bleed! I want the best possible quality paper brand to buy from that will really look high class, the wisest weight for 960 pages, printed both sides, and how large of sheets to order. Thank you for sharing. It's most impressive. I admire you!

Is 69lb uncoated text good to use on a laser printer and for binding a book of 500 plus pages yourself? And what adhesive would you recommend and would markers bleed through from highlighting? Thank you enjoyed your shop, really nice
@justaprinter
@justaprinter 3 года назад
I would suggest a 70lb paper or maybe 80 if you are concerned of bleedthrough., unsure of adhesive for a DIY project.
