Applies to every hole on approach. I recently started planning my tournament rounds this way and it helped eliminate blowups. At hcp 18, finishing with the same ball you started equals a win.

That is so great to hear. Most golfers will say well I’m not good enough to have a strategy I don’t know where I hit it. My response to them is that’s the reason why you’re not as good as you want is because you don’t have a strategy you have to have some form of plan to be able to follow so that you can start to drop more shots by taking away the blowup holes. Keep up the great work.

Immensely valuable information here! This is why short game is even more important than many people realize, where you keep yourself in play and rely on your short game to make bogey at the absolute worst

Another measurement I would have taken but I didnt see here, was how far it is to carry the water. I would have then taken a club that would go that distance as it does present the widest area of green on the whole dispersion wise. That way if I do pull it slightly the club should still carry the water and leave me between the water and bunker or just in that back bunker which would give me a sand shot away from the water that I could get on the green and 2 putt from there.
@Coach_WillRobins_PGA
@Coach_WillRobins_PGA 6 месяцев назад
Totally agree that you should always pick a target from the flag to the back of the green when there’s water in the front so even your miss will carry. The water on this hole though is to the left of the target so there is no actual carry here, but as we said, hitting it to the back right corner, is the mess avoiding all the trouble.

Pls stay on this topic par 3 for one more video. The uphill par 3 190 deep bunkers on each side left and right. Over the green is thick rough, No water. Thank you
@robertcourt8593
@robertcourt8593 6 месяцев назад
Just keep it short of the bunkers, pitch it on and 2 putt. Where can you not go? Left right or long. Where can you go, short. It's always the same principles
@Coach_WillRobins_PGA

Great to hear that you’re enjoying the videos. I can be sure to continue on with the par three info on how to play the most successfully. I think the key thing for anybody who’s an 18 handicap is to realize that part threes are actually part force, and all you need to do is avoid the bunkers get on the green and into 2 putt . Make your bogey for a net 3. Most people using their handicap at the end of the round, rather than each hole to remind them not to play aggressive and use the shot. They have on the hole to help them make net par.

Handicap golfers do not use enough club so I am using more club and aim for the middle of the green. My bunker shots are like putts usually, b/c we practice short game 50% of the time right? Still playing bogey golf because greens are slick.

As an extremely frustrated 25 handicapper, I would use driver on this hole and hit the green about once every 2 years. I would be in the water 10x as often as on the green, even aiming right.
@thescoringmethod

Choosing the right club will save you time, energy (and money 😂). We just did a video with Long Drive Pro Sean Johnson and he didn't even take driver off the tee box on a 333 yd Par 4. Find those dispersions for your clubs and aim where you can score!
@Coach_WillRobins_PGA
@Coach_WillRobins_PGA 6 месяцев назад
That put a big smile on my face. This game can be extremely frustrating but truly if you take the plan to play that this is a powerful for you as you get a stroke on the hole all you need to do is keep the ball dry on this hole you’ll be inside of 50 yards of the green pitch onto the middle of the green two part and you’ve got yourself a bogey, now we just gotta show you how to repeat that 18 times so you can start shooting 90 or lower.
@johnnorth9514
@johnnorth9514 6 месяцев назад
Thanks Will, excellent advice. Unfortunately, 30-50 yards is my least favourite distance, about 10% chance of hitting green from there. Perhaps 2 full wedges is the way to go; prefer to be approaching from 90 yds than 50.
@thescoringmethod
@thescoringmethod 6 месяцев назад
@@johnnorth9514 John let me go ahead and put a video together to show you how I think you can really improve from 30 to 50 yards you’ll see that there’s also a video on the Clock system that Cordie and I did. I think that will help you a lot, but we have to get that club solved, because if you don’t have it, it just put so much more pressure on the rest of your bag.
@johnnorth9514
@johnnorth9514 6 месяцев назад
Great, Will, will await that. My problem is an inability to control club head height at the bottom of the arc, so about 70% fat and 25% thin (after several perfect practice swings) so no chance of controlling distance. This is the same for all clubs from driver to sand wedge. Cheers!

For anyone trying to break 90, a bogey on a par 3 is a great score. A 4 is 1 under 5 and an average of 5 for 18 holes is 90.
@thescoringmethod
@thescoringmethod 6 месяцев назад
Michael, you are so spot on it’s simple math that is destroyed when we add ego pride and high expectations and with that recipe we can turn an 85 into a 105.
@trondgjertsen8765
@trondgjertsen8765 6 месяцев назад
Sure one should be satisfied with 4 on a par 3, but the rest of your statement is clearly not correct... If we are supposed to follow your logic then a 5 on a par 5 is just an average score when trying to break 90... if you look at stats then par 5's are where the 20 hcs lose most compared to par... which is of course because there is more shots.

Let me ask this - can you play that par 3 shot at the target with an intentional draw? Would that be okay? So if doesn’t draw it’s still at the target
@thescoringmethod
@thescoringmethod 6 месяцев назад
I would say yes if you’re able to hit a consistent draw with a miss that’s a push right and now a hook left. You have to be able to take out one side of the course and on this hole that is left.

Son took up golf 9 months ago, built a simulator running GC3 and I now know all about GIR numbers as he can hit better than pga GIR. He just turned 16 and carries his 46 degrees blade PW 140-160 at 2600 feet elevation. What he hasn’t learned is how to hit 80 yard shots. He jokes with me now that winter is over, and he can finally play a real round, he can easily get on at 194 yards and then fats a 80 yard shot. Golf is such a hard sport, and especially for mere mortals like myself, who doesn’t come close to pga GIR numbers. My coaching to him is golf is not about your best holes, it is about your worse holes. At best, you get an eagle, at worst: infinity. His last 3 rounds he got an eagle and had two just lip out, but all three rounds he shot over 80. Today, he worked on 100 and under, tomorrow: putting.

That is some serious power, but as he starting to learn, now it’s all about getting the ball in the hole in the shots that means hitting the ball closer and making more putts. I have all of my high school players using The Scoring Method and is transformational to see how much confidence they gain once the scorecard is in the hand and they’ve been shown how to keep the ball in play and score.

That 10 handicap guy might be lying. Also, this helped me get my brain right again. Chasing low single digit handicap golf my expectations are too high and I'm not playing the miss, I'm focusing too much on flag hunting and it's hurting my score.

I totally agree think about it. The PGA TOUR plays part three in an average of 3.03 for the season, best players in the world hitting on average of a 9 iron into a green, unable to go under par, so our best plan is play for bogey, occasionally make part, let’s play in 3.5.

I believe the number that I have seen is 36 times Carey of your five iron works extremely well and matches up to every level from high school college PGA TOUR. Do you remember the initiative from the PGA of America called “ play it forward” that was actually meant to be called the tour experience. How much different would that have been if golfers could’ve realized that this is what it feels like to play on tour hitting short shots into par four is hitting par fives into shooting lower, scores and playing at a faster pace.

First off. 20 hcp players onna 170y par 3? This is why golf takes five hours!!!! Par 3 should never ever be longer than you can hit a 5i in the air. Not one of these duffers can. Move them up to the right tees.

To save the game the USGA and the RA will eventually make the courses shorter and the holes larger.
@thescoringmethod

I think it’s more lightly, but Top Golf will do that. Their focus is making golf entertainment and the best way to do that would be make the ball holes a lot bigger for beginning golfers and build 9 to 12 hole short courses where people could play in less than two hours have lots of fun And some will work their way towards the game of golf were just enjoy this great game for entertainment, friendship, and being outdoors.

It is crazy how golf is the only game where you base things on gender not skill level. Just imagine if skiing was based on gender and as a guy you had to go to the top of the double black diamond to start that’s what Golf is doing and why it takes too long People shoot too high and don’t have enough fun.

@@srnordliI think the point they are making is that instead of having Black tees at the back, Blue tees a bit closer to the green, Yellow tees closer again and then Ladies tees closest with no real guidance for the casual golfer as to where to play, that as an alternative call the Black tees “the 6 handicap or better tees”, the Blue tees “the 7-12 handicap tees”, the Yellow tees “the 13-20 handicap tees” and the Ladies tees “the 21 and up tees” regardless of gender. @Coach_WillRobins_PGA Maybe you meant something wildly different, if so, let me know
