Here I'm tying the ever-popular parachute Adams, this might be a different approach to what you've seen before, or it might be your standard way of tying parachute type flies. I didn't mention it in the video, but I believe this is how Hans Van Klinken ties the parachute hackle on his Klinkhammer.
Hook is actually a Hanak H130 bl, the 103 is the Tiemco doh.

Hi Chris; great video with clear instructions; like it a lot. Like the way you whip finish by hand; I used to do the same 40+ years ago. Having restarted fly fishing and tying find I need a whip finish tool; bit of a pain. Been loving all your videos out on the river this year and see I’m going to enjoy your calm style at the bench as well. Keep on posting the likes of you & Wildfisher keep me inspired. Many thanks

Thanks for the encouragement, I sometimes wish I'd learnt with a whip finish tool (I may yet dig mine out and have another go). When I first started fly tying, I had an old VHS of Bob Carnill and he whip finished by hand, so I copied his technique, mind you he also tied with a peg sometimes and no bobbin, but I ignored that.

Very clear demonstration Chris! Will try tying one with the materials that I have. Like the way you move the hook to the horizontal to wind the hackles!
@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
Hi Peter, I have tried the "tie it off underneath the post and complete the dubbing" but it was just too fiddly for me.

Also like the idea of using the tying thread to guide the head cement in tight spaces...thanks chris
@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
I've tried applying the varnish to the thread before I whip finish ( as people do with a whip finish tool) but it didn't go well🤔

hi Chris and I have to say brilliant fly tying and streets ahead of my abilities but I have only been tying for one season so I have much to learn, neat idea turning the hook but for now I think I will have to stay with traditional hackles which I can make a reasonable job of such as the Jingler with pheasant tail body which Mr Trout really took a liking to.......keep up the great videos. ATB Mike
@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
Cheers Mike, it gets easier, I bet your tying will improve over the closed season without the annoying distraction of actually fishing! Neatness in flytying is great to impress your mates but the Trout don't care, infact the untidy bedraggled fly is often more successful. Just don't tell the fly tying aficionados 😀

Another one I missed. somehow 've not been getting the notifications. Great fly, always did well for me one The Don. I'll have to start tying soon myself and get the boxes topped up for New Zealand 🙂
@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
Have a great time Fred, I'm not jealous of the travelling but the fishing does look phenomenal. Slightly different patterns for NZ I presume.

@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Pretty much the same patterns Chris, but with a lot more big terrestrials like cicadas and some specialities like small yellow willow sawfly grubs. What you do need is strong hooks!

Hi Chris, nice, neat tie. I was fortunate to watch Ollie Edwards tie the Klinkhammer [which is obviously done on a curved hook] at a demonstration for our local club. Tied this way, the fly sits much lower in the surface film. When he tied an Olive emerger on a similar hook to that which you've used, he tied the hackle dull side down which meant it sat on the surface. I find both methods work. The only other difference in methodology concerns Ollie [and me also] using Spiderweb to complete the hackle tie off. Great video though and thank you for sharing
@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
Hi Peter, very jealous, I've watched plenty of his tying videos online and his flies were a class above. I used to use uni canis thread which is similar to spiderweb I think and was 18/0 from memory. This semperfli stuff is so thin its hard to see it to thread onto the damn bobbin but very easy to work with. As with all this stuff there are many ways to achieve the same result and most flytying methods catch more anglers than Trout🙂 Thanks for your support, I'm thinking maybe Neff caddis for the next one?

@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Good morning Chris, I am unfamiliar with the NEFF caddis but would be interested in you sharing it with us. Would it by any chance have anything to do with a gentleman called Sid Neff who was a friend of Mike Weaver? As always, looking forward to all your posts. regards
@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
Your correct Peter, the same chap he met on the Suir in Ireland. Most people will look at it and say its just a deer hair sedge but when I learnt it out of Mike's book the only deerhair I'd seen was on a muddler minnow. A nice easy tie aswell.

Smashing Chris. I've been tying up lots of Dynamite Harry's, very similar just with the wee extra tail post and only one hackle. Great flies, as you say, different sizes and colours could do you all year. Where's the fun in that though. 😉🤣
@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
Ah yes Greg, I saw a certain Mr Mcphail tying one of those and they look really good, another one for my list for next year🙂 I've promised myself just to stick to the patterns that have been successful in the videos and not cheat, but it's tempting!

@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Yeah, I keep seeing stuff I wanna tie, but then realise I need to buy more materials, when I have more than enough already, it's a disease!. The DH was given to me last season by an older gent on the Ayr (where Davie fishes), it's definitely dynamite, I had 6 trout on it quick fire.

I caught a fish on a PA for the first time this season. Are you going to sell any of the flies you tie, or is it just for yourself?
@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
Normally just for myself but having enjoyed your videos this year I'd be happy to send you some for next season. Do you have a means of contact (Facebook, email?).
