The parachute technique is important to know. Parachute flies seem to get strikes when even catskill style flies do not. This I believe has to do with the way they rest on the water, with the whole body submerged. Maybe it’s easier for the trout to see it? Who knows. All I know is once you learn a parachute, you can tie an imitation of just about any bug out there. Just change up the colors and hook size. Here a size 16 parachute Adams is quite common in many fisheries through the US, and me tying the Adams variety also gives me the ability to discuss my technique on aligning the two different color tail fibers. I hope you guys like the video.
Also if you want a good deal, go check out www.risenfly.com and type in McFly for a discount. They have great quality hooks, materials and fly gear all at great prices.

Good method for tying the post. Can't go wrong with parachute style dries!

Yeah parachutes are a great technique to learn. Glad you like this way I tie them. I find it to be the easiest. There are cleaner ways, but not easier in my opinion.

I tie my parachutes with calf tail, it looks like poly yarn is easier. Thanks for sharing your technique, I'm going to give this a try. Tight lines. 👍

Calf tail is great stuff but yeah, poly is much easier for sure. I do both, but honestly I don’t see much benefit with fishing a calf tail version. Both catch fish, and this is easier. I like easy! Haha!

No single dry fly has caught more trout for me…untold hundreds of trout on the parachute adams over the years. It makes a great dry dropper fly, too. Sometimes I tie these in size 12-14, all grizzly for the times I’m gonna be focusing more on the “dropper” aspect of dry dropping…helps with visibility, obviously. I’m sure there’s a real name for them but I call them “turalchutes” after tural brook where I caught my first fish on one.

Funny I was just at my local fly shop getting stuff to tie these and then it is a suggested video

Ha! I tied it like 2 months ago on camera. Scary how google and the like know what your thoughts are now a days. You probably mentioned to someone tying a parachute Adams and bam! Haha’. Or maybe you searched on google for the material list? Either way, google owns RU-vid so they know pretty much everything about us. Just scary. Lol

Thanks for the lesson, not really my thing, I'm more of a streamer guy, but good info nonetheless. Keep the good stuff coming.

Nice and clear, We tie almost the same using wool (arran sweater ) and for the post we use white , chartreuse , and hot orange.. some times light conditions on broken water, makes it hard to see ..

I'm really struggling to pull the hackle off for the tail portion. Would elk/deer hair be an acceptable substitute?
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 7 месяцев назад
Well those types of hair are hollow and will flair out when tightened. There are ways but, I don’t think it’s the best option. Try using a CDL feather instead. Makes great tails. Whiting sells a tailing pack and it’s not too expensive and will have enough tail fiber to tie thousands of these.

That's the strangest fly I've ever seen ... and it looks tricky to tie ... What's the point of it ? ... Is it consistently better than a conventional pattern ... or just an odd fly for an odd day ? ...... Nice job of tying it though ... you are quite the Artist ! ... Cheers !
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 2 года назад
Strangest? I think it’s one of the most popular fly patterns out there. Not a fly shop in America that doesn’t have these. Anyway, yeah at times it’s more productive than conventional.

Muskrat is not better than superfine. The reason people dont use it anymore is it is a hassle to keep it dry enough to not sink
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 8 месяцев назад
I personally like superfine myself more also. But many people would argue muskrat is better. But like you and me, some also like the synthetic as well. I just recommend using what you find works best for you.

I don’t know Texas fishing enough yet. Wouldn’t be much of a good guide if I don’t know the river more than the person I’m taking. Haha! But thanks! I appreciate the confidence.

@@McFlyAngler yea in my opinion you are the best fly tying guide
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 4 года назад
Oh thanks! Haha! There are some great ones out there like Davey McPhail and Tom Fleger, both of which (including a few others) are far better than me in my opinion. But thank you glad you like my tying videos. In a few years maybe I’ll look into guiding the area, always wanted to do that but don’t want to until I know the area good enough.
