As always, people look into these videos way too much! Pedantic and rude. Why not just appreciate the time and effort that's been put into this. Educational tips! There's always something each student can take from lessons like this. Btw, Beckham couldn't make the shoot so Craig stepped in last minute (I hope that clears that section up!). 😄🙌

Honestly -- if you're posting a video on the Vic Firth channel, you have the responsibility of posting the right info. You know a bunch of new drummers will be watching your videos eventually, and learning based on the info you give them. If you give them the wrong sticking for the 4th paradiddle, they'll learn it the wrong way. Not a big deal, but it takes a lot more time to correct something than learn it correct right away. Pointing out a flaw doesn't mean I don't appreciate this or other videos of Craig.

I used to use Paradiddle 1 in a break using the high hat as well. It sounded great in a pretty quick tempo rock song. I never really ventured that out into other fills and beats like this. These are great. Thanks for the video!

As a bloody beginner, I so far have not understood what Rudiments are for, now it makes much more sense! Thanks guys
@tomasesilva
@tomasesilva 7 лет назад
Hi, even tho iam self thaugt, been drumming for 4 years now, almost 5. The rudiments are like the words and letters of your drumming. For you to speak you will need to know the basics, like the letters. In drumming, rudiments are the foundation of everything you do, every sticking you make, its a rudiment. You have 40 basic rudiments (classic), but everything you play can be a rudiment, normally we call those the hybrid rudiments. Trust me, it took me a long time till I understood the importance of rudiments, practice the 40 classic ones, and you will improve a lot, start with the most simple ones and slowly, and within a bit of time, you will see improvements. Buy a practice pad in your local music store if you dont have it, it will help a lot! Stay cool

I was playing this in 68 69 like no other. Pulled it out of the Chapin book many years ago. It originally was in a be bop feel and I changed it with a straight 8th note feel while playing the 16ths between LH & RF. Don't play it anymore cause it's busy as hell!

@reynlord666

***** No problem, thanks foe watching! Heres my 2 pence (£GBP) on that: I like to think of the body as an engine, with a series of cogs. When you play fast, the dirt in the cogs might not stop the engine, or even be noticeable. But they are there and they are usually why something doesn't 'feel' right. When you slow your playing right down, you can see all of the dirt in the cogs, and the engine may stop. But it allows you to find weaknesses that might not manifest at faster speeds. Sort these out slowly and I guarantee you will be able to play faster than ever before!

I enjoyed every single thing on here. im 59 yrs old & still perform live often. i love all things i can learn from. But now, im wondering if you advertise equipment to be purchased at a reasonable price & i wont have to go to music stores & pay the ridiculous mark up prices i do at times now. i usually purchase 50 pr. of sticks at a time from magazines that do give a decent price when you buy from same place & person from the magazine. im wanting a couple new kits & cymbals but the prices 2 me r insane. if there is something you can offer me at a more reasonable price i will purchase more things from you than i think you would imagine. i use zildjian & Pearl kits as my preference but am very open to other equipment. ive been playing 4 50 yrs & believe ive go 20-30 yrs left in me. i play all genres but rap. i tour with several bands. i thank you for ur time & lessons ill never quit learning from. i hope to hear a positive reply back as to purchasing all new equipment from you soon. i just auditioned for Stanley Clark Band & im wanted after this tour in progress now and be given contract to tour with him on next tour. i got this opportunity because of one already in his band for many yrs & we have become great friends from session work together in Nashville. Again, thank you so much & hope to get a positive reply soon. Thanks.......Hym Toward.

I apologize for being off topic a bit on the parradiddle grooves, but who seriously likes a ride cymbal that is this resonant? It sustains forever. That can't be the most musical sounding ride in the world. I like my Sabian 21" HHX Groove Ride cause it's dark in nature, has a really projecting bell that sounds separated from the bow, and gets out the way so you can do other things on the kit/
@lanceh4653
@lanceh4653 8 лет назад
+Erik Fraunfelter I like it, but then I also like my 22" Paiste 2002 ride & my ancient 22" Zildjian ride. I can identify a bit with you though. when I was younger I would put tape on the bottom of it to deaden it a bit. Now I love it just how it is!

The fourth paradiddle is RLRL LRLR. But on beat 2 he keeps playing LRRL which would be an inverted paradiddle instead of the fourth position. I'm just confused by it, because it's not the fourth paradiddle confidently.
