I was measuring with an oscilator and the part output I was measuring included a resistor, a coil and a capacitor. when I calculated my theoritical values my Q factor came out at 0.033 but through the V=f(frequency) graph(and I was using peak values so I maltiplied my max voltage value with 0.707 to get the rms and I found my BW at around 4khz and my Fr was 1592. anyways using a formula I found out that my Q factor using the graphs BW came out at almost 0.4. A significant amount more that expected. I did not account for the phase though. should I or it doesnt matter in this kind of scenario? and if it does matter do I take in mind only the output resistor for the impedance or do I take the whole sum of the circuit? I am confused help

Bcoz at resonance, the circuit is purely resistive.There are no reactances in the circuit(neither capacitive nor reactive) And impedance=(resistance) +or- i(reactance) So if reactance is zero imaginary part is zero.

At resonance what happens is , inductive and capacitive reactances ie XL and XC are equal. Hence, it is observed that the phase angle between current and voltage turns out to be zero. (In a resistance circuit, the phase angle is always zero). Hence the circuit is simply resistive at resonance condition. Now when the complex equation is obtained, there only resistive ie, the real part exists

And normally the total impedance is Z = R +/- iXL / iXC So if the circuit is purely resistive then the part with i vanishes
