Parallettes are one of our favorite tools for building the kind of strength and control that carries over into everyday life as well as some kickass skills. They're great for beginners (as a way to transition to the floor) and for more advanced trainees (who need help honing certain skills).

I built my p-bars out of 4 pieces of 5 x 5" plywood and two 50 x 500mm diameter roundwood( maybe it's called that) and 4 screws. So it isn't exactly too hard or expensive. Thanks to a broken wrist and constant crashing on MTB the p-bars offer me a pain free session of pushing training. Thank you Brian for a great channel.

Thanks this video was pretty helpful definitely need this for my wrist … calisthenics put a lot of pressure on my wrist
@gmbfit
@gmbfit Год назад
Putting pressure on the wrist is how you get strong wrists. It's a shame more types of training don't address this adequately.
@callmesupreme1533
@callmesupreme1533 Год назад
@@gmbfit so pain in my wrist is good ?? They claim that’s signs of injury … but I guess they don’t address it much if you view other videos they’ll say use parrallettes to keep from being injured and wrist pain is signs of injury
@gmbfit
@gmbfit Год назад
@@callmesupreme1533 Where did anyone say you should do things that cause pain? Pressure and pain are two very different things.
@callmesupreme1533
@callmesupreme1533 Год назад
@@gmbfit any form of workout you should feel something but not enough pressure to cause pain thought you would’ve understood what I meant when I said “ a lot of pressure “ is what I’m saying I was at work when I wrote the comment I noticed I missed pain in the comment but it’s pressure when I touched my wrist an pain when moved a certain way so no it’s not supposed to feel that way ….but never mind got the information I needed on another channel 🤌🏽

I'm new to this. But I'm liking it. I bought a pair of push up bars today for... push ups, but found they're useful for working triceps... though limited. So I'm thinking about buying parallettes for greater range and challenge. I thought I knew what fitness was, but I can see what people mean by filling in the gaps.

What do you think of baseblocks strongblocks for a beginners? I'm leaning towards getting them coz I can throw them in a bag and take it to a normal gym
@gmbfit
@gmbfit 2 года назад
Never tried them. I have this set of wooden ones that'll likely last me the rest of my life, so I'm not too interested in testing a bunch of extra equipment that'll just clutter up my space. I'm sure there's reviews online. Be aware that the majority of those very likely received the product for free (like they offered me), so the reviewers often don't have much skin in the game.

thumb pain in right hand anytime i use p-bars. I stretch and ease in, but always discomfort and pain if i push it. Any ways to change up grip or other things to consider. When I take videos my alignment doesnt look to whacky or anything.
@gmbfit
@gmbfit 3 года назад
You want your thumb on top of the bar - not wrapped around it.
@MikesMusicMethod

@@gmbfit Thanks for the reply. So thumbs pointing straight out in front of me on top of the bar? I'll give that go.
@gmbfit
@gmbfit 3 года назад
Yup, it puts the wrist in a more neutral position and changes how your hand supports the weight.

Do you have any advice for where to find/buy parallette bars online or in person in Japan, since you also live here? I live in Osaka, and mostly what I'm finding on retailers like Amazon are American-made imported p-bars, which are all twice the price as they are in America.
@gmbfit
@gmbfit 2 года назад
Try bodymaker? Things are expensive in Japan, unless you're looking for Chinese imports. You can find a lot on Rakuten as well.

I recognize height is personal preference. I am a raw novice. 72 years old and want to do bodyweight exercises to supplement bands, total gym, dumbells. I am lean weight wise so not an issue. I see Lebert has some that are 25 inches long and 12 inches high. Pullup and Dip brand has some steel ones that are 20 inches long and 17 inches high. Any view comparing those two which height is "easier" for someone who does not plan on doing handstands. I know there are some that are 28 inches tall and higher but they seem to be for a different use. I am thinking of buying both parallettes and the taller ones. Any view on height (and length) for parallettes would be appreciated. Confused novice. Thanks.Jim
@gmbfit
@gmbfit 3 года назад
Taller ones are easier to get started with
@RooniTunes

How does a novice deal with extreme discomfort in hands and wrists even with the hands in the correct position and the metal bar wrapped with tape. It feels like a smaller circumference of the bar would create less strain. What are your thoughts? Thank you.
@gmbfit
@gmbfit 8 дней назад
The novice works up to it without expecting it to be easy. Be gradual. Be consistent. You'll get stronger. That's really all there is to it. Do the work, and it stops sucking as much.
