Yup sometimes @%$&! happens. When it does, lick your wounds, check your pride, and fix your prop!
In this video I tried Q Bond repair for the first time to fix a carbon fibre Helix paramotor prop. First impressions are it was easy to use (aside from glueing my fingers to the bottle) and dries to a hard product almost immediately.

I like the repair product. I think you can do the same thing with crazy glue and backing soda. Did you balance the prop. What I do is take the red (positive) protector off a 12V car battery. This fits perfectly in the center hub of the prop. Put a string right through the center of the red cap and hang it from something...eg. a doorway. To balance sand or add paint...if it need more you can drill a small hole in the prop and inject some glue into the prop's cavity. This works great.

I have the Hadron 3 and your wing did exact same to me. I applied my 20 year forward launch technique and wing just continually folded either in the middle or tips around my ears. Resulting in 5 lines being chopped. First time ever. Then spent half a day practicing and 15 failed launches. Have since found you did very much depends on the trim setting. For me it was on zero. Once in the air didnt like how twitchy it was and slightest gust and wing all over the place. You are very right that this wing is very specific to the days weather conditions. Based on your review and that of many others I have a Luna 2 on order

I just bought an H3 22. It should be here in a few days. I'll be sure to spend more time kiting than I usually do with a new wing. Thks for your honest comments.

Kberry, read mine above about Helix props. They flex too much. Callahan.

So handy, Luv. Scrumptious vid in it's presentation. The guitar music in the end was almost certainly a version of Bron-Yr-Aur from Zepplin's Physical Graffiti. I think then it was Custard Pie that was served up. 💋💋💋

Reminds me of when I was a teenager in the early-mid 90s. My old man and I were flying from Darwin to Adelaide. We landed at a little place called Olympic Dam which I think was our last stop before getting to Adelaide. It was a single strip airfield with a very strong cross wind. We were continuing to side slip even with full opposite rudder and dipping the wing into the wind. Eventually the old man decided he need to get us on the ground as we were getting very close to a wind break on the right of the airstrip. We hit the ground hard and bounced twice. Once we had stopped we could see we had suffered a prop strike on the aluminum prop. Which bent about 12-15cm of the tips on both blades. There was no LAME at the airfield so the old man decided to continue to fly the aircraft to Adelaide. He called up one of his mates who drove up and picked me up, plus everything we were carrying onboard. Whilst we waited for the friend to drive up, my old man calculated how much prop he would need to generate the thrust to fly the aircraft unloaded aside from himself and fuel. Then he cut the tips off each end of the prop. Made sure he cut the same amount off each end. Ran it up and was happy. He then flew back to Adelaide, following the road so we could follow in case he needed to make an emergency landing. He arrived no problem. However another pilot that was at Olympic Dam saw what we were doing and called CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) and dobbed us in. They were waiting at the airport when he landed and gave him a summons to appear in court. He was given a $20k fine for flying the aircraft after an incident without having it inspected for damage by a LAME. I still have the news paper article from the event somewhere around here. I believe it's title is "The pilot that pruned his prop and continued to fly", has a photo of the old man coming out of the court house.

Dang, didn't know that wing caused you to bite a prop...too bad. Good thing was fixable. That's why I stay with the 125cm on my pheonix, way more clearance that way with the cage flex.

Yep, Q-bond is the perfect repair tool for those props. did u try to re-balance it?

Jerry, I thought my air box was moving back in flight by air flow & contacting the prop. One day, while running it at full power while tied to a tree, I leaned over out of curiosity. What I saw surprised me. It wasn't the air box's fault. The Helix prop, at full power, was flexing forward into the air box. Something to consider. I've since added an additional spacer at hub front.

I just had this issue as well with my first use of a Helix prop and the recommended thinner spacer and shorter prop bolts. I have a Kangook Classic and sure enough on the very first time I ran the motor up, my prop tips shredded themselves against my frame, and my prop spins dead center of my hoop 360°. I guess they must flex a ton. So I am going to stack the thinner spacer and the original spacer with the original bolts. I have to repair the prop and mount and see how it runs. The extra spacing should fix my issue I pray. This will be my first time trying to repair a prop. Hope I can do well enough contouring the end to be similar to the original curved shape.

@@Chipenvous Make sure each blade weighs the same or very close. A good scale is......good! Good luck!

A good cheap way to repair props is baking soda with super glue. Then files... Used it many many times. This seems the same. But if it's this busted, especially at the ends like that? I'd be worried about ballance. Also It's odd to me cage could flex this much into the prop. I know my nirvana cage would never go this far. I tried it on the ground and I don have the force to flex it so far.

Agreed, I was surprised with how much the cage flexed

That was a great repair job. I’ve had to do a bunch but never the ones that large. How many centimeters do you think you put back on to those props?

About 5 cm, seems to be balanced even!

Hey bud. Wasnt it that you didn’t keep the risers forward until it reaches 12:00 when trims closed all the way? Its part of the unique technique of the Warp and perhaps the Hadron 3? I know you are knowledgeable on the product but sometimes it helps if a buddy points out the problem, as I noticed in your video...

@@fly-guyalberta3605 Thanks for confirming and sorry to hear that. I’ve done similar launches on my maverick and haven’t had that issue but I know every frame and every circumstance is different. The important thing is you are safe and not out a whole bunch of cash. Sorry that happened and look forward to your next video! Blue skies! :). 👍

I'm having same trouble taking off on my small trike with my brand new Nucleon 4. It either doesn't go up and gets dragged behind, or goes to the side. I have 10 years experience on Paramania Revo2. Last 5 years I had almost 100% success rate on take off, so I know how to properly line up the wing against the wind. I kited it for couple of hours. Seemed ok with a forward start without an engine. But with the motor it takes me like 7-10 attempts to get up. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Tried with different trim settings, tried to pull slowly, to pull hard. Don't know. Even overturned my trike once when I was frustrated and tried to overpower the wing flying in the side. Lucky, my cage is strong enough (double hoop) and didn't break the prop. Now rebuilding my old Moster. It gives now only 7800rpm instead of its usual 8200rpm. But flew my Paramania with Solo few times. 16hp! Next time will setup a camera on the ground to see what i'm doing wrong.

Do you recommend someone awaiting training to buy a brand new beginner wing and kite it? Would this help or hurt?
@macflyguy5166
@macflyguy5166 3 года назад
If you can afford it do it, just Be careful with It check for sticker burrs in pointy things on the field. It will help in the fact that you will begin to learn your wing and understand how it flies which is very very very essential. Try to keep it to evening sessions when the UV rays are at its lowest usually one hour before dark is the best time it's the uv that kills the fabric.

Would definitely help, just get a bit of instruction and safely tips for ground handling and then kite until your fingers bleed...lol
