UPDATE I recently released my retrospective on the 3rd Birthday, and in that video, I give this game lots of credit for being really good. I still have issues with story stuff and level design, but since making this video and replaying 3rd bday, I've found a new appreciation for PE2. Please stop yelling at me, okay? Go watch that video.
That video is how I found your channel. Parasite Eve is what I'd consider my favorite game of all time and your video echoed my thoughts. You gained a new sub from me. Excellent videos!
From a gameplay standpoint, I always thought this game was fun as hell. From a storyline standpoint, I do have issues, although I think more time, thought and care could have helped. I'm not against there being some shadow organization that's artificially creating Mitochondria monsters through humans, people forget that it was a human scientist that helped caused Eve's awakening in the first game and create the perfect seed to impregnate her. Hell, my favorite element is Eve and the potential for an artificial recreation of the force that almost brought the end of all things in NYC. Where I think it falters is that the organization who does it feels like it belongs in an entirely different universe. The creatures they create are awesome, I have no problem with that, but the giant soldiers don't fit in with what was introduced in the first game. And then there's the main headquarters that's not even Resident Evil inspired, but feels far more Jurassic Park. They could have built up that Dr. Klamp from PE1 was just one figure in a group or even cult who felt the Mitochondria where the future and the saviors. Instead we have Kyle as the insider that offers nothing and the Golem #9 who's feels like a stock video game boss. I think the game just needed more time. The action is fun, the monsters are unique yet still disturbing, the desert town could have shifted horror tones from J-Horror to a more desert themed horror like Hills have Eyes or something and Eve is a great idea for the evolution of Aya's character. It's just they went a little off the rails with the concepts (no where near as bad as 3rd Birthday granted). Parasite Eve is a game that makes you think and wonder while having a good time, Parasite Eve 2 is a game that doesn't press you as much but is more fun.
Not quite sure if the counter-arguments are really "yelling", but there is a trend of when PE 2 was played. I never got a chance to play PE1 until years after PE2 and I only played PE2 during the tail end of me renting PS1 games and then again during my PSP days. I only really played PE1 right around when FF15 came out, which is when I grew tired of Japanese RPG story telling, particularly those that deal in melodrama, culture exclusively, or harkening to an ideal that really doesn't match with any other culture (ie Persona's focus on JHigh School rather than other countries similar growth in college). That and I started to love statistics in gaming more than straight-up storytelling. (Speaking of, I would love to play a game solely focused on data visualization. Using stats to tell a grander story. O man, I would love a story where the game's characters tell you one thing, but the numbers and actions happening around you suggesting another.) Anyway, my bias against JRPG storytelling hit an overall peak. PE1 included. It just wasn't what I had played with PE2. I liked the arcadey feel of PE2 and going back to JRPG was just too much for me. Of course, I know that PE1 is a JRGP in mechanics and not so much in story. I kinda compare games I irrationally don't like(or like less than I should) to food made with anise. Lots of great stuff is made with that spice(like Pho), but knowing that it is there triggers a stupid reaction where I think everything tastes like black licorice. PE1 is the same for me. Personally, if Square revisits PE1 and PE2, maybe we will get a FF7 RE treatment for PE1. I think it would be really cool to have the same kind of detail of FF7 in a NYC setting. I don't know what the mechanics would look like, but the biggest thing I liked about PE1 was digital tourism, in that you are in a messed-up NYC. PE2, maybe like RE2 Remake? I don't know. Until then, Im going to keep trying to play PE1. Whenever I get over how good Hades is....
Hey np, it's your point of view. : ) But as someone who never got to play PE1 ( because it wasn't released where I lived at the time ) And basically started the "series" with PE2, it is impossible for me to imagine that PE1 was better than 2 in any way! I found the story and setting super exciting, challenging and - come on just look how beautiful PE2 looks >_< PE 1 Aya just looks like a "3D anime character" - idea that didn't quite work out... PE 2 Aya on the other hand looks so pretty and skillfully / realistically designed! I wonder if my opinion were different if I started the series with PE1 but - as it stands, The Resident Evil Clone: Parasite 2 is my all-time favourite PE game ^^ ( After all I love RE and well made RE clones of the time in general ^^ Dino Crisis, Hard Edge... )
Have you tried playing nightmare mode? I've played bounty hunter, replay and nightmare. Nightmare is something I wish I could forget, I barely made it to the escalator and that's where I died. The other modes were great, replay and bounty hunter made it easier to play.
My personal feelings on that game are that it's a good game overall, but a bad Parasite Eve game. The gameplay was unique and challenging, and the story was entertaining and interesting in its own way. But it barely relates to Parasite Eve, and the gameplay is very different from either 1 or 2.
Who on earth ever said PE2 was a Resi rip off? I have never heard that. This game was damn fine a 9/10 in my book, in not one area did it feel like a Resident Evil game. Also, I accidentally stole this game from Toys R Us back in the day. I was about 7 or 8, my sister was about 14 or 15. So my sisters, cousins and I stopped by the Toys R Us and we explored a while. Finally, i made it to the game section and was looking to see what they had. There I spotted it on the top shelf and couldnt reach it, so this nice gentleman grabbed it for me. I saw my sister was leaving the store, but me being as young as I was simply thought that i could follow her out the store and then just return the game later. So i just ran clean out the store with the game firmly in my hand and shouted to my sister that I had finally found it. Mind you, this was when games came in those large plastic security cases, and the only way to get them out safely was the store clerks had to open them for you. So when i walked out, the security case was still on there and I happily showed my sister that I found it. Both my sisters and all of our cousins were shocked and told me to just keep walking. To which they then proceeded to tell me that I was gonna go to jail and they made fun of me. That didnt stop us from getting home and prying open that security case though lmao. Took us about an hour and a half to break that damn case open. Hell we used tools that kids werent allowed to use, but our parents werent home, so they never found out we were doing dangerous shit just to play a game. Good times man.
I'd be really interested to see someone create an game that uses animated pre-rendered backgrounds in order to create camera pans as you move through the environment. For example the camera could follow you down a corridor in a tracking shot and then as you round a corner or enter the room at the end of the corridor you have a more traditional fixed perspective. So long as you have the script information that was used for the background animation the character model could be rotated and scaled to maintain the illusion of a 3D environment. I suppose you would run into storage issues for all those frames of animato however if you're looking to recreate a grungy PS1-era aesthetic while not being limited by hardware you could compress the hell out of it to bring down the file size.
That girl transforming in the cafeteria traumatised me as a kid. It was my first horor game experience ever and my then wimp self couldn't handle it. Fun times.
That scene and the opening CGI cutscene for Resident Evil 3 scared me as a kid. I just remember being in terrifying awe that there were so many zombies that even police barricaded up with shotguns and submachine guns in riot gear couldn’t even come close to stopping them.
People play 1 first think it's better and can't separate good from nostalgia. 1 have much better story and characters because it have a good novel as base. Gameplay just personal preference.
@TacoTacoTacoTaco I played both games when they came out. I still prefer PE2! Love both games, but the second one is the one have I have replayed the most.
@Tiago Kristiano I love JRPGs, but the combat in PE2 was MUCH more intense. It got kinda repetitive in PE1 (cast Haste, wait, shoot, wait) but in PE2 every encounter feels unique and requires a different strategy.
This game isn't as groundbreaking as the first one in terms of gameplay however this game has a lot of replay value and hidden secrets that kept me coming back for more. I love this game but everyone has a right to their opinion of course.
Parasite Eve 2 is an amazing game that is a must-play for any fan of the survival horror genre. One of the things that makes this game stand out is its incredible graphics and atmospheric environments. The game's visuals are absolutely stunning, from the detailed character designs to the eerie and atmospheric settings. The game takes place in the fictional desert town of Dryfield, which is overrun by grotesque monsters known as Golems. The town is abandoned and desolate, and the game's atmosphere is incredibly tense and unsettling. The game's lighting and sound design further contribute to the sense of unease, making for a truly immersive experience. The game's graphics are also very impressive, with detailed character models and animations. The game's creatures are particularly noteworthy, as they are incredibly grotesque and terrifying. The game's cutscenes are also very well done, and they add to the story's emotional impact. The game's story is also worth mentioning, it's a science fiction story that is well written and thought-provoking, it has a good balance of horror and mystery. The protagonist Aya Brea, is a special agent with unique abilities that makes the gameplay experience more interesting. In short, Parasite Eve 2 is an incredible game that offers an unforgettable experience, with its stunning graphics, atmospheric environments, and a well-written story. It's a game that any fan of survival horror should not miss out on.
As it should! Those who didn't enjoyed playing PE 2 has a lack of taste. 😂😂 Like, do they seriously prefer having an ATB gauge in the battle system, than just shoot enemies at their own will? 🙄
@@ozmond I agree god forbid people like the first games combat and expect the sequel to have similar combat what a concept. What if halo 1 had it's normal combat then halo 2 came out and had atb combat I don't think Halo fans would of been happy.
I absolutely love PE2. I heavily prefer it over 1 despite its flaws. I’m sure it has to do with me playing it first but it’s definitely a lot more fun. I’m sure everyone’s been mentioning remakes and would love remakes for both
Agreed. I first got into PE when watching my cousin played it. I got it for Christmas the following year after its release date. When I got PE2, I enjoyed it more
@@nightfloral5010 It's neat but I don't particularly care about PE1's combat system, and PE2's magic kind of blows PE1's magic out of the water. PE1 beats out PE2 in certain areas (such as the music generally being way better, it's done by Shimomura after all), and I like both games and their stories, but I also prefer PE2.
@@nightfloral5010Not exactly. Despite playing PE2 first oddly enough PE1 has a more nostalgic feel for me. PE1 is an amazing play through story wise but gameplay wise it was an absolute drag lol. PE2 was def more fun to play
And the worst part is they are never going to let the IP be released. Japanese game developers/publishers don't trade IPs like Americans do, and even that is rare. It would be great to see another developer, Platinum or Insomniac do something with Parasite Eve.
I actually love PE2! It's still one of my favorite games of all time and I can replay it over and over and never get bored. The only letdown for me was that, when I first played the game, I thought the Liberation spell (such a cool PE in PE1) would be present in this game :( but I could at least see Aya releasing a bit of her true potential against No. 9.
I actually loved parasite eve 2. The amount of weapons and endings, paths and secrets. Also so many unlockables and modes. Umm you do see dunglas again when you go back using the sewers which is optional you can get new weapons from him. I feel you missed a lot of stuff in this game.
Yes I remember learning of the snail magazine for the P08 pistol years after the game was released. It actually makes that a very good weapon early on.
@@empressink_ sheesh you're talking like these youtubers don't read this comment that you're making, if you're so knowledgeable, why don't you make a video about it?
@@empressink_ I have never put a failure stamp on PE2, If you watch the video and listen to what I say, I like the gameplay but think things about the title overall are disappointing. I just made a new video on the 3rd game, and give PE2 major props throughout that entire video.
I think one of the coolest things about this game is how you can interact with objects multiple times. You could search an area multiple times and get so many unique dialogue from aya's thoughts on things. I honestly felt like I learned more about Aya in this game just from interacting with the same objects multiple times, it's not like other games where it just repeats a single message. It's really cool.
Its always interesting to me to hear people who played PE1 first talk about PE2. For the longest time i only played 2 and it remains my favorite PS1 game, but i definitely get why people would be disappointed going from 1 to 2.
Parasite Eve II feels like a RE game because some of the ex CAPCOM employee worked on it, notably Satoru Nishikawa, which worked on RE 1 and 2 backgrounds, becoming the Art Director on PE II. This can also be seen in the change of 3D graphics tools, with the first PE, SQUARE, used Nichimen N-World ( W O R L D, no word, lol) and Alias PowerAnimator, with PE II they switched to SOFTIMAGE|3D, which is what CAPCOM used at the time, giving PE II that mental ray look. I totally agree about the story, I think the best part of the game is in the beginning, the desert is still OK, but the laboratory has a lazy design and the enemies are there just to slow you down, since it's a very small area, making it very quick to complete otherwise. As for the music, I didn't know how it really sounded until I replayed PE II with headphones, some years ago, most of the tunes are forgettable, the only passable one (if you exclude the original rearrangements) is "Watch Out!", and the composer (another ex CAPCOM employee) was hired for his work on RE2! That said, PE II is one of my favourite games, it has a incredible replayability value, with all the weapons and magic spells you can get. Every time you can use different strategies to beat monsters and bosses.
Same, I understand why some diehard fans of the first one were upset with PE2 but it's still a really fun game even on its own It wouldn't get half the hate if it wasn't a numbered sequel and just a spin off like it was intended to be because people tend to expect more of the same from sequels
Yea I think it's beacuse she never actually played it back in the day. I think that plays into it. You go and play any older ps1 game you've never played and it's never as good as it would have been.
@@Loztc0ld the one exception to this that I found was "Heart of Darkness". Never played it as a kid but finally played it as an adult and it was outstanding.
PE 2 is my favorite game of all time. Its the most immersive and nostalgic game I've ever played. it's arguably the most pretty game on the ps1 and other than that, I love the combat/weapon and character progression system. Doesn't mean I deny its shortcomings.
I just recently started playing this game and I love it. It is so eerie. I love the attention to detail, the soundtrack, Dryfield, the overall feel of the game. I played 1 and I liked that game too but not as much as 2. Overall great game that makes me sad they don’t make them like this anymore.
I agree PE1 RPG system was ground breaking and still is, but PE2 is still a really good game. I wish they make another PE that especially isnt anything like 3rd Birthday
Your videos made me replay these games all over again and with nothing going on over here it made my late nite weekends really really shine rich of flashbacks and happy memories all brought back to life!
The end of the video reminded me that one of my favorite series died sad and lonely on a terribly fancy boat that was the PSP. Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed Parasite Eve 2 back when I played it when it first came out but I could never shake the feeling the feeling that it was kind of, eh. At least I can still cherish the memories of playing the first one, reading the novel Parasite Eve was based on, and the glorious fun of New Game +ing my way through with a friggin M249 SAW. Good times.
@@JustinianLucisCaelum Ahh technology is a beautiful thing isn't it? god i wish we had emulators and the technology today in the 90's, would have been an amazing childhood.
PEII is one of my favorite games of all time. I love the original PE as well, but I prefer PEII. The BP system, The parasite energy, the weapons, the desert setting, and of course Aya are all 10/10 for me.
Hey, Sphere... I love you! Just wanted to drop in and remind you that you're appreciated. Just something weirdly nostalgic yet warm when watching your videos. Last time I played parasite eve 1 or 2 was at a friends house like 7 years ago and now watching this despite it being well over a year old just... I don't know, makes me feel alright. The combination of the old pre-rendered PSone game and your calming voice just works great. I'm gonna stop fan girling but I hope you live forever, for the sake of the world itself and my sanity.
Fantastic video, thanks for introducing many of us to parasite eve. these past gameplay styles were so cool to experience. The older stories like the one told in the original game are what inspire me to this day, creating a concept with mitocondria and having relatable and likeable characters who have to deal with it !
I remember that scream playing on loop for hours as my dumb ass couldn't figure out that I had to ask permission to use the tools to save someone. It is the first thing that comes to mind any time of think of P.E. 2. And then later hearing Green Goblin used the same damn scream to trick Toby McGuire Spider Man.... I have flashbacks every time I watch that scene now... Ruined the movie for me.
If you look at PE2 as a game that is setting up the story for a sequel, everything makes perfect sense. The cliffhanger with Madigan. The unexplained bit about your boss and other MIST operatives being arrested for leaking info to the "shadow organization". Jodi and Rupert on their quest to make NMCs and MIST public or whatever. The bit about Maeda and Pierce preparing society for a future which will have more people with neo-mitochondria and super powers. The fact that the characters from the previous game got almost no screen time. The fact that they didn't even care to explain who the actual villain of PE2 is, you just find their hideout with the doors wide open and have to kill runaway monsters during the whole game. If you imagine that their original plan was to produce a sequel right after PE2, then PE2 is a kickass game, because, besides the story, everything else in it is very well done. However, they only released a new PE game 10 years later and chose to ignore all the cliffhangers from PE2. That's why PE2 is such a confusing game.
I didn't know that the character designer quit halfway through the game. It explains why Aya's 3D model was entirely different for the Dryfield hotel room/shower scene. Things felt off for a while until realizing.
I really liked PE2 back then, the first PE didn't appear here in Germany, but the second did in 2000, so that was my entry into this series, and since I'm a big fan of the old Resident Evil games, PE2 was of course exactly my game.
One thing made the game incredibly funny for me. The Desert Chasers look almost exactly like someone I knew in school. Their hairdo, their nose and the general head shape just fit almost to good.
Here's a little bit of Parasite Eve trivia, it turns out that Aya has stopped aging since the events PE1. You can find this out after gaining access to motel room 6. If Aya looks at her reflection in the motel room's bathroom mirror you get this bit internal monologue: "here's looking at you, kid. I look like I'm in my early 20's... It's nice. But, there is a reason. It's what my mitochondria wants. A youthful host is advantageous. I saw this movie about a medieval Knight that lived in to this century. I don't want that. I'll be happy to live just one, normal life."
Having just found your channel, I have to say its awesome you are showing the games I grew up on. PE1 reminded me a lot of the game play of the ps1 vagrant story. I would love to see you review VS1. They did continue vagrant story but i do not think they ever made it too the US. Thanks for the nostalgia, and love your voice!
Despite being more annoying than any other Eve's creature, desert chasers are still my favourites. They have a perfect mix of uncanny valley and originality. Modern graphics could make them really freaky (in a good way).
A series where each sequel is unlike the previous game in style and suffering from serious identity problems. Jeez it's like Parasite Eve and Dino Crisis were separated at birth! 🙄
I love your commentary. The first video I watched was yesterday with your Dino Crisis review and I instantly subscribed. I thought at first you were a text to speech because your voice is almost perfect for commentary. And I am love the sarcasm with you being an FBI agent hunting monster but you need to ask permission. Hahahaha!!
It is worth nothing that the director and writer for Parasite Eve 2 was Kenichi Iwao, the main scenario writer for the original Resident Evil game (the man who essentially thought up the whole plot, since Mikami didn't even want the game to have a story): taking this into consideration, it's not surprising that PE2 feels a lot like RE games. I wouldn't be surprised if Square hired Iwao specifically because of his work on RE1.
There's no quick turn because your turn speed depends on your weapon's weight - using a heavy gun will make you slow and stationary, while running around with a handgun will let you get behind the enemy and snapping around quickly.
Not a lot of games have a desert setting, like this at least. So I gotta say thats a positive. I've been wanting to play games and watch movies set in deserts for some reason.
I actually played number 2 first ...and 1 I found years latter ...I have always been a huge resident evil afan ...and when I found this game ...I actually enjoyed it quite alot ...it was hard in some places...confusing to a kid ...but later as an adult I replayed it and enjoyed it even more
Hi Sphere, thanks for the awesome video! I hope you’ll cover game series like Silent Hill, Siren, and Fatal Frame one day. I always love seeing your vids in my notifications.
Played this when it was first released and I love it, my fav in the series. This game hade so much replay ability, including a gunblade. But being able to unlock new purchasables and harder game play, man I love this game
I really enjoy your videos you inform us what these games are about your own experience cons and pros and encourage us to play to find out for ourselfs i really repect that about you ty
As someone who played PE2 long before PE1 (since it was never released in Europe and, technically, isn't up to this day even though it's easily accessible with a US PSN ID) I have to say this little gem was one of my most played games on the PSX and certainly is one of my most favourite games in general. I really enjoy games with atmosphere striking that strange combination of horror while at the same time being solemn/relaxing. PE2 nails that atmosphere perfectly with it's locations (I don't live in the desert), music (very underrated) and encounter design. Also this game has amazing replay value with it's different endings you have to work torwards over the course of the main game, the many many unlockables (which include a lot of special equipment you can't get by default in the main game) and one of the finest implementation of additional difficulty modes up to this day IMO: not only do stronger enemies appear sooner or differ from difficulty to difficulty, beating them also rewards you with special item drops, even more so if you own the medicine wheel. That detail alone adds a lot to the gameplay. The unique atmosphere and replay value of PE2 reminded me a lot of a little game called Resident Evil 4, which I also played the shit out of. In many ways PE2 feels like an early blueprint/grandfather (or rather grandma) of RE4. And while I love RE4, PE2 is still better because of Aya and it's RPG elements (especially the parasite powers).
Kinda weird how this was a spin off promoted to Sequel like RE3 and around the same time, only that game felt like a sequel in terms of both gameplay and story where this looks very different. (Also that part at the end leading up to Third Birthday was pretty funny.)
This 'it was ment to be a spin-off' thinking is bit dumb. So where is that real PE2? There is none, also it was not like Aya was foced in that game in last minute. From all the game development maybe only 10% at the begining it was ment to be a spin-off and rest 90% was ment to be a sequel. As for Resident Evil 3 it is another fake rumor. Both games RE3 AND RE:CV ware made as a sequel to RE2. Capcom later decided which is which.
I really like this game. I even like daytime Dryfield theme. It was minimalistic, but I think conveyed the atmosphere of the town really well. I also like the lab portion of the game. The lab, in most games, is where everything that went wrong usually got started. Ground Zero.
unless you emulate... which is the best way to play the game anyway, since you can customize it to fit your preferences, from graphics, to even making use of fastfoward(a must for the original PE game).
P.E.2 was my favorite game in PS1, i played it first and then i played P.E.1. Indeed it lost a lot of great things from the first game, but im glad you had fun with it. Great video btw, you do a great job!
Parasite eve 2 is a masterpiece. You criticized it being similar to resident evil although I ifind that is a good thing because I love RE. you have to know it's not a resident evil clone, but it's a genre called survivor horror and PE2 has it's unique identity inside this genre. If you are a Japanese RPG fan that doesn't mean PE2 is bad. It's just not designed for you. There are many people love PE2 over PE1.
I beg to differ. As much as i love the 1st one, PE2 is one if not my personal favourite ps1 games EVER. The replay value is insanely high i lost count on how many dozen times i've cleared it all through my childhood. Even now i still pop this game up once in a while.
One thing I think I really enjoy that I bet a lot of people ended up missing is that just about every object Aya can voice her opinion on has multiple lines of dialogue, and many of these lines give great insight into Aya's personality. In PE2, she's sarcastic and witty with a world-weary attitude, and very clearly just wishes to have a normal life. One part of this that stands out for me is a bit where she looks in a mirror and notes she doesn't seem to age anymore, comparing herself to Duncan MacLeod from Highlander (not directly stated but implicitly, its obvious) and laments that she doesn't want to live forever. A shame that the rest of the story isn't quite up to snuff with the character writing.
I could swear I was subscribed to you. I've been waiting for this video and didn't know it released yesterday. Oh well, enjoy another subscribe, being my feed seemed to have been subscribed to you while i wasnt
This game's atmosphere was so amazing. The soundtrack is at the REmake level. I think the conflict people have with this title is the same they have with RE4 compare to the previous games. Both are amazing but of a different genre. I personally love both PE.
Will you be making a retrospective on The 3rd Birthday? I'm actually really interested on what your thoughts are on that game since it's one of my favorites on the PSP
I'm actually excited to see her video about The 3rd birthday. I remember buying it in a pawn shop for the PSP and playing it. Back then I had no idea what Parasite Eve was, and when you made a video of Parasite Eve 1 I was like wait a second, that's Aya from the 3rd birthday I had no idea it had older games, and then I got really interested in the series.
PE2 was a game that I really hated when it first came out, if only because I'd been playing it fresh off of PE1, but ended up appreciating the writing and visuals years later. I loved reading all of Aya's comments on everything that gave further insight to her personality. I enjoyed that Kyle was this professional but also kind of a jerk with a nerdy side (he makes a Zork reference, so the thought of him playing text-based RPGs tickles me). Pierce's obvious crush on Aya while Aya remains oblivious to it. Jodie's upbeat attitude as she talks about ammo. I loved imagining these people working together because they all had distinct personalities to me. Even the story and horror were something I warmed up on. I distinctively remember the researcher's journal in the Breeding Room at the underground facility, how well-written and creepy that was with the sounds of screaming animals in the background. Aya's description of each of the staff beds that gave you deeper insight as to what kind of people were running that facility. There were some bits that gave me genuine scares, too. Is it better than PE1? Eh, I love both games equally because I love Aya as a protagonist (so you can imagine how much I hated 3rd Birthday). I think PE2 has some improvements in the powers system, the combat, and the writing is much more refined than in PE1. The story is lackluster on the surface, and the level designs are underwhelming compared to the first game, but it's still an underrated classic for me.
I honestly wasn't interested in a video about Parasite Eve but I happened to click on this video to test some audio. I can't stop watching now because i'm interested now. Keep doing what you do.
I still have my copy of this that I bought the day it came out. I remember when FFVII it seemed impossible that a game could look that good, but then P.E. I and especially this game, really upped the cinematic feel of games. It may be more R.E. like but it pushed the envelope in terms of graphics and presentation much more than R.E .I and II IMHO.
