They really should overhaul this game and make some backtracking side missions and additional pathways this game would be incredible it's a shame that they just released this game it seems like it was just not even done also a lot of walkways with invisible walls I ran into and a lot of dead ends with just boxes stacked very cheaply done
I never really bought the whole umbrella lab being in a rundown dump under the city back then. It never really seemed believable when it's like, supposed to be the secret place of a giant mega pharmaceutical company. What RE2 remake did was perfect for revealing it as a giant underground utopia secretive lab
I'm glad you understand a lot about the game. Not judging them, but it bugs me to see reviews still hate on the AI, and show clips of the survivors getting killed when it's easily avoidable
I’ve watched this video several times and I get giddy and giggle like a school girl every time I hear “the greatest American hero, Chris Redfield scaling a mountain,” mainly because I love Chris but he’s also kind of a goof.
Thanks to this video I was finally played through and beat resident evil four Also I was playing it along with the video so I wasn't spoiled on anything
I really love the atmosphere and design of the game (I personally love the black boards), but this game tries to be re 4 but not too much, and this is a real problem. Some times the gameplay feels so uncomfortable and some choices with both story and level design makes me so confused. Im pretty happy that the DLCs raise the game's value and experience, and as far as I liked the second one, the love I have for it is not half of the love I have for the first one. It could have been so much more
"What PE fan wanted this" None. Not a one. Been with the game since 98 myself and when I saw they announced this as a PHONE GAME I knew there was no saving it, regardless of what they did. But you want to know what's especially cruel? Square-Enix looked at the abysmal reaction to this and said "Oh I guess the audience doesn't like PE anymore" as if it was _our_ fault. Constantly changing the game's genre is such a shitty move to take in the first place, but the feedback they needed to be listening was "Come on Guys. See PE1? Do that again. That's _all_ you needed to do"
Seeing what ultimately was and wasn't changed does feel odd, but I do genuinely think it was a matter of trying to make it a bit more timeless. There will always be wars and traumatized vets, but I'm genuinely not sure if somebody whose a teenager today is going to even know the term viet cong. We're old enough for that to mean something, but I wouldn't say that holds true for the wider audience they may want to reach with this. I don't think any other psycho had major changes to their dialogue from what I noticed, so I really don't think it was necessarily a matter of sensitivity. Similarly, I just don't think they would've really been able to get away scott-free with the erotica genre anymore. I think it was definitely a different time when the game came out, but making the player take a skeevy shot of women in a traumatic horror situation (and having to value that shot highly) in order to show it off to Kent has multiple levels of wrongness to unpack and is kind of a lot for a request almost every player (new and old) is going to see in 2024. There's still opportunities for erotic shots (cheryl's request still exists) its just not tagged or extrinsically encouraged. I hadn't noticed until typing that, but between Kent and Cheryl I think erotica is the only genre the game ever actively asked you to interact with, and again with the direction things are heading/how things are now that would really only age worse and worse. From a preservation standpoint, I'd understand keeping and acknowledging it, but the original is still readily available, so I personally feel that's a moot point. I'd be curious to hear any updates on your opinion now that the full game is out for everyone, though I'd comprehend if your thoughts haven't changed at all. It's very clear not everyone thinks the way I do on these matters.
Bro I know there are several DC retrospectives out there but I think I've rewatched this like 5 times. It's so well done. AND DC IS COMING BACK TO THE PLAYSTATION CLASSICS COLLECTION!!!!
@@UniorCruise9676 wow so vile of a human being no respect for original art, it's a good thing I'm a real fan, and a majority of people don't like disrespectful behaviour like you.
35:45 well RE Village did release after these, so... And I mean from a financial standpoint, with the success of this game, I'm pretty sure the shareholders were hounding for more remakes by that point.
Can someone who loves Resident Evil find similar enjoyment with the DMC series? I’ve never played any of them. They look cool though ! I Was debating picking up 5 just to try the series out but don’t know if I can play it without playing the other ones. As always love your videos!
I love your love for Resident Evil! I played RE4 Remake first on my modest PC but I recently got a PS5 and I had to get it again! Too bad I could not get my hands on a physical copy but maybe during end of the year sales I'll grab one for my collection.
In the spirit of saying something about the game 5 years later- I'm colorblind and I have never known what color Leon's casual jacket is. Sometimes I think its green, other times grey or teal, sometimes it looks black. Can I get the opinion of someone blessed with correct color vision?
Honestly, I like the way RE2 original was still a game but drew you into it. Now games are trying to be too real, but not bringing as much immersion as the prior games.
What are the chances. The same week I started my first Resident Evil game this video pops up. I loved Re2. Leon was such a badass to play. The game had some startling moments, and Mr X was a cool addition to have chase you. Im going to play the Re4 remake next. I dont know if I should play village tho. Is it connected to the Re2 and Re4 storyline, or is it separate?
LMFAO!!! @15:55 when you said in New Yawk accent "Oh yeah, you want to break my lock-on you fucking idiot, you crossed me, you lost me!" 🤣😂 Played some of the games way back in the day, were pretty fun and atmospheric for their time!
This was one of the most personal game analysis videos you've done to date....what an experience they managed to deliver through both the base game and DLC content once all the headache game bugs got ironed out over time! I'm happy they never gave up on their core product and despite a botched release, went ALL IN on really refining some amazing stories, characters, internal struggles, and narratives along the way!
I loved PE1 played it in junior high. I beat it with lots of trouble. Now PE2 I went to toys r us with my older brother to get a game. It was legend of dragoon or PE2. I really wanted dragoon but my brother was like " your friend already has dragoon.get the game no one has" made sense. He had to get it cause it was listed M. I had mixed feelings whole game through. I beat it. It was hard. Well I played it about 3 years ago and it was great. My adult brain helped me not get my ass handed to me. I really really enjoyed it now compared to then.
Walking instead of running does take more time but it’s a relatively unknown mechanic of the RE games to sneak past enemies. I use it in 4 and both Revelations games to sneak into a position to snipe an enemy.
The one thing that has always mystified me about Capcom is that most of the RE games that I have either watched play throughs or actually played is there is a very limited number to no QTE events, but the for some reason broke away from the model to put a lot in RE4. Now some like the Village Lake fight work with the flow of the game, but things like the final fight with Krauser or the giant stone Mech of Salazar absolutely do not make sense.
