Parasite resistant sheep are king on building a profitable grazing operation. No other farm animal can measure up to the low cost of raising a parasite resistant sheep flock. No inputs required except mineral and a guard dog to protect them. When an animal can average twins each year on pasture, that is an unfair advantage to your benefit while growing your flock. If you want to keep your farm profitable every year, check out my 3 grazing books that I wrote on our website: greenpasturesfa...

Stunning! So different from our supposedly “green and pleasant land” cropped short pastures in 🇬🇧 dispersed with clumps of nettles that the sheep won’t touch. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Will you be grazing cattle through this pasture again one (or 2) more times before leaving for winter stockpile?

I think That some of the babies with patches around their eyes look like cartoon characters I wonder if someone would draw a picture of one knitting a rain coat out of plastic for mom since she lost most of her coat? I wonder who developed the woolly sheep I think sheep like that must require a lot of hands on to keep them healthy. I have watched shearing competitions it’s astonishing how fast they can remove the fleece.without harming the sheep nor themselves. I am off for an early night I think I must have counted to many sheep today! Good night see you later 🤔🍀🌟☘️🌟🍀👋👋👋👋🍀🌟☘️🌟🍀🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🍀🌟☘️🌟🍀👍👍👍👍🍀🌟☘️🌟🍀😘💕💞💕🙋🏼‍♀️

Thanks for the video! Sheep are awesome when you have small acres. Our sheep are doing well. I can’t believe how fast the lambs grow just on grass. The ewes look in good condition too. They love dandelions. Actually all our animals eat dandelions first. I went to the doctor yesterday and tomorrow (Friday) I get my neck fused. The doctor said I will feel lots better.

You cannot use cattle mineral for sheep as they can develop copper toxicity at relatively low doses, so make sure you provide sheep-safe minerals and keep cattle minerals out of reach.

I wish I could find some lamb raised in the US in our local Sprouts or grocery store. The only grass-fed lamb I can find comes from New Zealand, which seems to me a heluva long way to come from. I'm thinking, this is California. Don't we have sheep here?

@Greg Judy, Were looking to grow our flock in MO. We think would like to add some Romanov genes into the flock. Currently mostly Katahdin, Dorper. So, 1/4 Katahdin, 1/4 Romanov 1/2 dorper might be a mix of genes were looking at. We have some good ram genes built up from our vet sheep ranchers program, big old rams, seem to do their work well. Do you know any Southern MO, N. Arkansas with any ewe lambs yearlings coming?

With a stocking rate of 6 +/- sheep per acre, does that imply that the lambs are part of the 6+/- or does that imply that only the adult sheep are being counted for the stocking rate and the lambs are not counted for the stocking rate? Thank you.

Mature animals are counted as our stocking rate. Baby lambs are not taking down tons of forage until they reach 50-60 lbs

Video Idea.....I'm looking for a specific video I cant find anywhere. I just bought 5 ram lambs this year. My plan is to keep the best 2 for breeding and then the other 3 will go to my freezer. Next year I plan on buying as many ewe lambs as I can at the time, probably around 10 and do what you do and just have the rams separate in the summer pretty much. Here is my question. How do I go about breeding these ewes without inbreeding problems in the future. Do I cycle rams out? if I keep a new ram lamb does that mean I have to then get rid of the mother to make sure inbreeding doesn't happen once I put her son in the next year. He would still have a bunch of sisters running around from the year before.....I cant seem to find a plan for this anywhere. I know i should keep at least 2 rams because you shouldn't have one alone. I was thinking....I heard about tribes in some country that will put a apron kind of thing over the rams they dont want mating. What if I just put that apron on one ram and let the other do the breeding for that year and then the next year do it to the other. That would make it a linebreeding type situation, kind of. Like I said I cant find information anywhere.

We are focused on teaching and sharing what works to build a profitable grazing operation. We must be willing to change the old ways of doing things or most livestock operations are going to go broke. It’s already happening all over, with sky rocketing input costs folks are being forced to sell out.

Mr Judy during the advanced grazing school this year and in several of your videos you mentioned taking the bulls and rams away from your heard and exposing the ewes and cows at specific times of year. For a person with a considerably smaller amount of acreage than what you have, how do you suggest (that is feasible) doing that if your trying to avoid feeding grain ie putting them up in a barn? Right now we have cattle but thinking of adding sheep at your suggestion during grazing school due to limited water access and steep terrain. I can’t figure out how to keep the males separated when they need to be without putting g them up in a barn

@alanwesterfield4254
@alanwesterfield4254 2 года назад
That is awesome but to be fair.... how many ewes do you think were toting around quads thousands of years ago? In my mind, they probably never had the opportunity to see 3 or 4 lambs through while foraging on their own. These ewes are provided protection from predators and have the benefit of managed forages daily. I always figured a sheep was wired up with short gestations and multiple births with the expectation of mortality. I would consider a ewe that can wean 3 lambs with very little added inputs to be a rock star. If that ewe is going to be able to wean 4 lambs, I would want those lambs marked; because that genetic potential could be very valuable. Thanks for the reply.
