I HAD PARATHYROID SURGERY LAST WEEK BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PARATHYROIDS, POSSIBLY DUE TO A 95% THYROIDECTOMY 35 YRS AGO THAT GREW BACK INTO A GOITER 30 YEARS AGO AND I THINK EVERYTHING IN THERE IS JUST A MESS SO MY PARATHYROIDS FLEW THE COOP🥴

Fantastic Video!!!! I am scheduled for parathyroid surgery at Mayo soon. Unfortunately there was not a lot of contrast after the post processing of the two radioactive tracers. I hope it is just a single one so that I don't end up in a situation where you have to trim an abnormal one to the right size for the right PTH level. Thank you for producing this very informational video on the surgery.

My mom is also scheduled soon at Mayo for a "exploration" surgery. The scans done were not able to determine the overactive parathyroid.

Hi 👋 iam 8 weeks post , I was not recommended calcium after my surgery, my numbers have been very good. I am curious does one always need calcium after hyperparathyroid surgery? I've been fine and feel great 🙂

Thank you so much for this video. 9 yrs of high PTH and Age 62. Diagnosed with Secondary Hyperparathyroidism from Gastric sleeve absorption problems. Low vit D for several years (40's-50's) with no kidney problems whatsoever. 1 year with above average Vit D levels 110 and still increasing PTH so I had Parathyroidectomy 2 days ago. Hyperplasia and 3 tumors removed. PTH 94 down to 14. Calcium was only slightly higher at 2.69 1 week previous but don't know todays lab levels. Left arm slightly numb but not tingly. My only complaint is my surgeon Dr. Todd McMullen and several other surgeons in the Edmonton, Alberta area do not give advice on Calcium/Magnesium in the recovery period and leave that up to Family Physicians or Endocrinologist which is not effective in any way as they take months to get into see. I have altered my Calcium levels based on your chart.

Hello Dr. Larian, My calcium levels range from 10.2 to 10.6. Pth levels range between 100-110 . Vit d is 30. I had terrible fatigue, joint and bone pains, depression, and anxiety. Ive been diagnosed with Sjogren's and likely MCTD autoimmune diseases as well. I'm yet to have a throat ultrasound. I have a constant globus sensation in my throat and dysphagia. Could these symptoms indicate hyperparathyroidism or are related to my autoimmune disorders?

High PTH, High Thyrogloblin, Low Vitamin D and normal Calcium Level, but the bone pain and high bp is 10 out of 10 out of control :( Told anxiety 😢

I had a 3.5 gland removal in March of 2021 and it was by far the worst recovery of my life but after a year I was a new person. The bone pain was the first to go and the rest took a while. I did stay in the hospital for quite a while because I was hypo for days after surgery. That was tough.

How do they test during surgery if your PTH has always been low or normal?

Does decompression on nerves from cervical injuries of C3-C7 cause parathyroid? I had a failed ACDF C3-C4 and now have moderate sized central protrusion osteophyte. All my injured cervical area mirrors the symptoms of parathyroid. My kidney, renal and liver are normal. Thank God. I am unfortunately back at prediabetes due to weight gain from chronic inflammation from said injured area. Currently waiting for approval for revision and additional level ACDF. I did some research and I did find C5-C6 is the area of my parathyroid glands. That area is also compromised which again why I have to now have four level ACDF. I thank you in advance for your medical input. I'm haven't found anyone speak of this on any public forums.

What about after the surgery ? Is possible the patient has any damage for example , can’t speak for long periods or any other issues ? Please advise me because I’m going to have this surgery on March . Thanks
