I think the most common definition of "psychological horror" is simply being afraid of things that are not there. Same way you thought there was gonna be a monster in the observatory, there wasn't.

This game is an absolute gold mine for people who love to speculate and look for meaning where there might be none.

I think there's a misconception that psychological horror has to be somehow related to the psyche of the protagonist or an in-game character. Sometimes it refers to games that mess with the *player's* psyche.

What I remember from the game, there are aliens that are deadly when observed. they used to be contained but broke out. this is the location the photographer finds. people get off on watching tapes from these aliens, to come close to death and then shut the tape off. people get addicted to this. the government tries to stop this. the assassin just gets an order to kill a dude, then stumbles upon the illicit vhs tape smuggling ring and decides to investigate. the assassin ties the photographer and smuggling ring stories together.

The 3 objectives are very connected at 3:25. Especially if you lived in the soviet eastern europe. That was like an everyday chore for many of us. Orders my differ.

I played this game like two years ago on my switch, your video unlocked a lot of memories. It was such a strange game but like you said the atmosphere was nice

that "WHAT!" on 8:42 jumpscared me and i got scared

Just like the sounds, the order of the scenes is scrambled as well. In the diner when you start out as an assassin, there is a camera on the desk as well, so that part of the game is basically after the bird watcher dies. The part where the items in the car switch out basically means that you are switching the characters entering the town whilst displayed on the single time line (it is a combo of all 3 characters). So, to know a story you basically need to replay a game and re-arrange the timeline properly.

As I have time traveled into the past to tell my story, I received brain damagedfrom my monochromatic tree the last time I did LSD. There were far too many colors. As I ate the static colored leaf, I learned that I am one with the void when I put on my time travel face bag. I shall now do more drugs and travel further back in time to the previous video.

I recommend Mandalore's video, he has the best theories on what is going on in this game.

*SPOILERS* . . . . . First of all, play it yourself and draw your own conclusions, this game creates a beautiful atmospheric little world that i wish i could experience for the first time again. That said, my take: The VHS tapes are like a weird body horror extra dimensional drug. It's hard to put into words, but the being that kills the photographer is related to them. The security guard at the beginning of the game didn't know what was special about them and basically overdosed on the tapes. Same thing happens to your neighbor in the apartment complex. She bugs you to let her watch one because she's addicted, if you do she also overdoses and her head explodes and sprouts tentacles or something. She remains alive after this. The smuggler knows what the tapes do but either doesn't care or just needs the money and the long driving segments are supposed to feel contemplative and isolated, as well as like just going through the motions. The photographer I genuinely believe is just a photographer who stumbles into the plot and tries to get away. Inside the bunker under the shack there's a bit more than was shown, there's a metal door or something that you can hear something on the other side of and it's really creepy. The assassin is trying to get to the bottom of what's going on and stop it. It's why they basically execute the guy in the diner, he has a tape and may or may not intend to sell it. I think. I remember that guy deserving it but maybe I'm wrong. I think you're also able to unload your gun into the large figure at the end, but i don't think you kill it. The call at the end confused me since i think the assassin knows there's nothing to be done and had themselves encountered the large figure, but maybe there was the hope that the FBI or another organization would pick up the case. If you give it a second or third playthrough and pay closer attention the story actually seems way more cohesive.

Kek the long car and elevator parts are just to make the game longer I guess

The similarities to Eastern Europe during the Cold War were very apparent, not sure why people were confused by those parts. Even having been born after the Soviet Union collapsed it was very obvious to me.

After years the best way to discribe it , is that it is a david lynch simulator

This is kinda another one of those open-ended games where teh story is left (arguably a bit too) open for the readers interpretation, and when done right that's totally fine. However, the execution in Paratopic is lackluster, to say the least 😅. Also sick work dude your chanel is so underrated and I'll always be there to watch :D.
