Day of Defeat source (and to a lesser degree CSS) I hear is a functional downgrade from the GoldSrc counterparts. Apparently there was extra factions or weapons in DOD that aren't present in DOD:S (and things like the riot shield missing in CSS but I don't think many are upset about that). Rather than update them and bring in the missing content, the source ports are essentially just graphical and ragdoll prototypes.
