Parenteau Lake: Canoe / Camp / Fish - Part II

In this episode, I fished the northern arm of Parenteau Lake in the search of walleye. This narrow 4.5km bay allowed me to fish all day with minimal harassment from the wind. Though I caught a ton of pike and a few lake trout, unfortunately I couldn’t locate any Wallters. It appeared increasing unlikely that I’d find walleye on Parenteau Lake, so I decided to leave for fishier pastures. The next day I packed up and paddled south on Mirond Lake to Corneille Rapids. Here I poked around until I found what I was looking for. Unfortunately, the smoke and wind picked up and I had to set up camp early on an island in Corneille Lake. After a hot coffee in the morning, I packed up and battled a stiff wind over to a portage that would take me back into Mirond Lake. From here I paddled back to Silence of the North to end my trip. Thanks for watching!
I just want to mention that I made last minute parking arrangements with Silence of the North, they were courteous, friendly and willing to accommodate.

Great entertainment again Tyler! Really like the underwater video additions! Very nice trout! Only out of pristine waters I’d say. I appreciated seeing your hooks and some of your other gear too! I need a boom like that! Spring must be getting near cause this adventure got my blood flowing again. I’m hoping for an early spring and decent weather in May! Thanks for sharing the adventure!

I look forward to seeing your trips each year now. Great video work of your trip as usual. I’ve watched them all! Very cool your trip was on Mirond and Corneille. I’ve have had many fishing trips there. It was great to see a familiar portage to Corneille, I’ve done that with fishing boats! Many great memories, amazing fishing!

Perfect timing! Great way to spend the part of the day watching you video with this crazy storm in sk right now. Think I'm going to give the marchel lake trip a go. Thinking its a good one to get my feet wet on canoeing. I sent a message to your email as well. Thanks for the videos!

@puddlejumper-sk 3 месяца назад
Matthew, Thanks for watching. Marchel Lake would be a decent lake to get your feet wet. But I would recommend the Bagwa Loop in Prince Albert National Park. In the spring you can catch lakers on Kingsmere, and Lilly and Bagwa have decent walleye fishing. As well its a good introduction to portaging.......but you'll have Marchel all to yourself unless there's fly-in fisherman. Will respond to your email soon! Cheers

Just curious...do use barbless hooks? When I paddle in ONT that's what we use. More fish get off the hook, but it seems sporting to give 'em a chance.
@puddlejumper-sk
@puddlejumper-sk 3 месяца назад
Thanks for the question. In Saskatchewan we don't have to go barbless except on a few bodies of water. As far as I can tell the literature typically shows a very small difference in fish mortality fishing barbed Vs. barbless. The only fish I have issues with barbs is the Northern Pike as they can engulf the lure. Northern Pike for the most part are built like tanks and are super hardy. I would have more issues with fish mortality by fishing in depts greater that 30ft. Though this was a fishing trip, on my longer trips I fish for sustenance, and having no barbs on a slow day is not a good combination. But ya I agree with you its more sporting going barbless. Hope you enjoyed the video! Cheers
