I went to boarding school since the age of 5. Developed a lot of issues. Now as a parent I listen to my daughter. Her happiness comes first. She did not want to go to school anymore as it does not suit her so we follow an unschooling program, it has done wonders to her confidence.

As somebody from teaching field , don't worry much about school or college professors until that teacher is an IITian , they are not much educated . Give respect to highly educated people. Don't give it to anybody like that .Just survive the school/college and walk out of the system !!

True, you know what ,my parents were always consumed with their achievements.Now what ever I did was meaningless. I worked hard and moved to the US but still I am looked like an under achiever. I learnt from my life that we are all our own selves.Lets not judge our own children. I have 2 girls and I treat them each with kindness, love and respect. Gave up old school completely 😊

I have undiagnosed adhd since childhood, my mother used to hit me and say 'tu itni bewakoof hain, ek din tu apna naam likhna bhi bhul jaegi' .... The joke is on her even without medication not only did i learn Japanese but also pass it on a considerable level (n3). 😬 After that i told her now i can write my name in 4 different languages 😂

There was never emotional support from father . He brain washed us to be nice to everyone, people pleasing, no self esteem. It was all abt him self centered, egomaniac. When I was being abused by someone dad watching me getting abused and remain silent like nothing happened. Just bcoz that abuser is a friend of dad. He gives importance to outsiders than family.

I can relate, so far I m glad I m parenting somewhat right when it comes to school. I filled in physics zero. This is the one thing my parents also got right, my dad always showed up to school on misidentified whether I was right or wrong.

This is so wrong. Parent being an advocate to their children ? Yes In some cases when the world is against your child but not when the child is wrong. We cannot be justifying wrong behaviours with advocacy from parents side. And till a certain page, till almost 18 , yes a parent needs to be strict but also open their arms for communication. Strictness for discipline, hardwork, consistency and working to make them better human beings and if not working, vent out to a professional counselor. We cannot be saying that its only ' we' right all the time. If i do wrong , yes it's my mother's right to slap me and tell me the rationality so that the next time, i think about it. Trauma doesnt come from one slap. Trauma builds onn if a particular negative reaction has been going onn since years. Yes parents need to scold, in extreme cases , hit sometimes , there's absolutely no need for parents to fear children. This is what the problem is. Parent's arent supposed to fear the child, they only need to fear if the child wants to go far away from them , settle abroad, or don't want to be with them. Yes thats the reason for fear. This is absolutely misleading. Parent's arent toys. If my mom wasnt strict with me , god knows what sorts of things I would have done in my adolescence. I knew i dont have to make my parents bow their head down and that's the priority. Family and parents should be the priority. We arent knowing the two sides of story, addressing these issues are very important, but only if we also know the action and reaction of both the child and the parent.

1) Mr Rao says that the child should not be told but SHOWN how to do - with his swimming example. This is rather silly, even another kid knowing can teach your child swimming and nowadays there are plenty of good videos in RU-vid! So parents should provide suitable/better guiding person rather than doing it themselves and show their child. 2) There is no easy solution - but parents have to give QUALITY time to their kids which is difficult in this scene where BOTH the parents work. The parents think that school will take care and the scool thinks parents will take care. Obviously the school which is a COMMERCIAL outfit does not care. There is no recognition of this by Mr Rao and he keeps on uttering unpractical ideas. 3) If the parents can afford, let them put their child in a boarding school - which is the near equivalent of a gurukul of older times. But how many can afford, even the school fees are pretty costly! Looks like Mr Rao is a mis-guided frustrated with the system - can he SHOW what he has achieved with his child or any child he has mentored. Just TALKING.
