Parf MK II Guide System Do not measure up against The rulers 

Thank you for your comment. I completely agree with the option you suggest but since I use the system many other places I would also like to be able to place the holes directly and here the little jig you see in videos works fine. I have seen the video you mention but it should be stated in several places, there are a lot of videos where you see the users make an effort to measure precisely up against the ruler.

You should do it, it works fine and easy to make. You should also consider making a pin lift that will save a lot of time if you make a lot of holes.

In theory, there should not be the big difference but it assumes that the starting point is the same. At Cnc, all holes are cut in a plate with the same starting point and a uniform precision is obtained. When using the Parf Guide System, the starting point is moved every time a ruler is moved and therefore there is a significant risk that a small error is multiplied and thereby becomes fatal. The prerequisite is that all the holes in the two rulers are 100% in line, unfortunately they have not been on the rulers I have so far had access to measure on. You can do something that works with the system and there are also other benefits as long as you are aware of where there are problems.

@@Harris-DIY I've also considered having a large custom template CNC'ed. With a guide bushing and a 20mm bit it seems easier to establish a starting point then just march down the table with a router and a rather large template.

The reason I chose the Parf system was that it does not take up much space in my small workshop, it is easy to transport and can be used for small things and large plates.

@@Harris-DIY Thanks for the comments. One more thing, if the first row of holes is aligned properly with the edge of the MDF, using a jig like the one you made, from there is it accurate. I should watch your other videos.

If you have access to the Parf system, the first thing you should do is test the rulers. Take a piece of plate and clamp the ruler firmly so you are sure it cannot move, then you drill all the holes very carefully. Remove the ruler and place the three pins in holes 1, 2 and 3 (they must not be pressed all the way to the bottom) Find a piece of aluminum strip or something else that is in line. Place the strip against the 3 mm sticks and check that they cannot tilt and do the same on the other side. If everything is stable move to holes 2, 3 and 4 and continue until all holes are checked. That's one of the ways I'll use it to find fault.
