Finally got my hands on a true parfocal zoom lens (and I didn't even have to sell my house)! I can feel Stanley Kubrick energy flowing through my veins.

Here's how, if you want a better image, I recommend HD or even 4K and 8K B4 2/3 lenses. Of course, those are quite expensive, but you can also find newer SD B4 lenses designed for 3 CCD cameras. The one you're using is from the early 80s and was made for three-tube cameras, so that's one of the reasons it doesn't look as good. Additionally, the latest ones are designed for 3-sensor (3 CCD or 3 CMOS) and for prism setups, so for that reason, you will always get certain artifacts that you would never see on a broadcast 2/3 camera.

Yep, that's the reason there's an adapter with optical elements to reduce those artifacts. But it is not cheap 😶Most of the time we get what we pay for! Thank you for adding valuable info!!!

@@EndlessEnergy That's what that adapter is for, but you can never achieve the quality you'd get with a genuine 2/3 sensor. Simply put, with this setup, you already have in front of the sensor two optical elements that reduce the image quality and introduce artifacts. The doubler itself literally degrades the image by a factor of two and adds distortion at the corners of the image. Then there's the adapter, which is an additional optical element. So, the best image quality is achieved with what it's designed for, which is the 2/3 sensor. However, it can certainly serve its purpose in those other scenario, but never with the original level of quality...

What about super16mm zoom lens? Would that need less adapter as the lens has less crop factor on a back magic s16 setting.

Fun fact the canon m running magic lantern hacks are perfect for this as it's crop circle is c-mount small!

@@EndlessEnergy 5D doesn't have the same crop modes as the M, I have both. 5D has a better 1080p image though.

Someday I'll find a working, cheap B4 lens to try myself. Most of them are either stupid expensive or broken, but one day I'll find the right one! ;)

I have a Fujinon 9.5 .. 152mm. It has no built-in Teleconverter, I use an external one. The only problem is, I could not find a setup to make this lens being parfocal.

I'm sad to hear that, this particular lens came with a simple nob and its extremely easy to setup. Took me 2-3 tries, or 5 minutes.
