I just purchased this tent prior to seeing your review. I tried setting it up but like you and others, there are problems. I will be making some modifications and hope they work. This is my first 1P backpacking tent as usually I am a hammock user but need to sleep on my side so I'm going to try the tent. Good review.
With a few easy modifications you will have yourself a great tent. Please keep me posted on your thoughts on the tent after you have modified it a bit. It's always fun to hear what others think of a product. Thanks for watching the review.
Great review bro. I like how you said the good things with the bad. Pretty good price too. I’d like to have the tent to use that rain fly when I go tarp camping. No tarp just bring the rain fly. 👊🏻
Most thorough first impression I have seen on a tent. I enjoyed the honesty in it. This tent is not my cup of tea but certainly a good option for someone trying out a trekking pole for the first time.
This would be perfect for me. I've had two spinal surgeries (was stopped at a construction zone - guy rear-ended me at nearly 70 MPH) and every little bit of weight counts. My Stormbreak 2 is nearly twice as heavy as the Paria! I'd do the same thing you're doing and gift my old tent to my bro so it can be used frequently. Keep on making epic videos!
I'd like to return to hiking and backpacking, however I need a lightweight tent due to my bad feet and back. I need a tent/tarp combo that has a lot of flexibility as I'd like to hike across the American Discovery Trail during different parts of the year. Different sites might require a different set-up. Thank you so much for this very honest review and opportunity for this tent. Best wishes to you and yours.
Love the honest true revue. I would like to win this tent because I finally bought a new set of trekking poles that snap in place instead of my old ones that twist to tighten. Plus I will use it and post a video thanking you for the giveaway. Thank you for sharing, and the GAW... Take care Justin.
Great review of this tent. This would be perfect for me during trout season when I like to hike for miles, way back in this valley near my home. I'd like to do overnighters when I do those trips but the only tent I have is a big 10 person tent. I'd love to have a smaller, great quality tent for just me and is easy to throw in my backpack. Thanks again for the great review!
Hi. My name is Prime and I’m a gear junky. I don’t know why I do it. I have 3 tents already and just purchased this tent. It just seemed so tempting and affordable. It was right there within reach. Actually, I can justify my tents. My first is a family tent or a large base camp tent. Me second is a hand me down 4 person tent that weights about 8 lbs. it’s for car camping and visiting guests. Just resealed it too. My third is a two person roomy tent that weighs about 5 lbs. really meant for weight to be shared. But LOVE this tent for one person. My 4th is this Paria 1p. My first trekking pole tent. Only 3 lbs. might try to lighten it up with better stakes ...... also might try adding better mesh pockets I’m already considering my 5th tent. I have my eye on a 6th as well -the names of the first 3 tents have been omitted to protect the innocent
As a fellow gear junkie....I understand. I'm up around 20ish tents now. I've lost track LOL That Paria is an awesome tent. It just needs a little tweaking is all
Hi Justin, looks just like my 2-pole tent!.. which is still growing on me after a year too ;-) Don't worry, I'm not entering from England, so no mailing headache! Good luck buddy, hope you're well. 👍
Hey dude!! I hike the Badlands a lot and I could really use a solo tent. I usually hammock but this would be great when I cant in places like the Badlands!
Hey Justin. New subscriber here. My son and I are new to backpacking. We’re going to do a 140 mile thru hike of the Northville Placid trail in the Adirondacks this summer, and we’re both super excited about it. We’re just starting to figure out our gear. I’ve been looking for a tent for my son. I think this would be a perfect entry level set up for him. Especially with the improvements that you made. Great video and thanks for doing such a cool give-away!
Hello Justin, I like Paria Products. I have 3 pieces of gear from Paria: 15 degree top quilt, line locks, and the Recharge air pad. I will be getting the Paria Sanctuary Tarp this spring. I have The Lanshan 2. That tent appears to be really good with the changes you made to it. I hope you will contact Paria and give them feedback on this tent. I dealt with their customer service and they are really responsive. I wish more companies customer service was like theirs. Thanks for the review. I am sure the person you give this tent to will enjoy it. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
Nice tent. I am a newbie and do not own a tent anywhere close to this, so would certainly be able to put it to good use. Thank you for doing a review on it; reviews certainly are beneficial to beginners like me
Well I’m sure I’m late to the party on trying to get this tent BUT here it goes. I recently went on a 3 day trip on the AT. This was my first backpacking experience. My backpack weighed 45-50 lbs. yeah definitely not on the ultra light scale. I wanted to see if I would even like this style of camping. Well turns out I did. Despite all that happened. I had an el cheap tent with me that weighed 8 lbs by itself and the wind that first night destroyed my tent. So I’m looking to upgrade and I heard Paria was a reputable company with good prices and the weight of the tent seemed amazing compared to what I did recently. I’ve never owned a trekking pole tent before so this would be totally new to me.
Thank you so much 😊 I am new at backpacking. This helps, and you are so cute and fun 🤩 to watch❤️💫🤩🌟⭐️ I should win this because I am a teacher with no fun spending budget. But love the out door.. and hiking 🥾 and most of the 14ER left are long hike that requires camping 🏕.. and mother Gaia calls me out everyday..
Thank you for the kind words! The winner for this tent has already been awarded his tent. But I appreciate you checking out the video. Keep molding those young minds!
Nice review man. Looks like a good tent as far as tents go. They just take too much fiddling for me. Not a tent guy myself. It'll be a good setup for whoever gets it!
At first I thought the same thing. But the fiddle factor goes way down after a few rounds with it. The more I messed with it, the more it grew on me. I bet I could set this tent up in less than 2 minutes now. I'll admit defeat....I like the tent. I kinda want to keep it now.......
Thank you for the information. I was wondering how did you fixed the problem with the microlocks, what diameter did you used to replace the dinema cord. Thank you
Welp, I was going to give it a shot but honestly after reading many of these comments, there is definitely someone more deserving of this tent than myself. Justin you seem like a great dude and have definitely brought alot of inspiration to myself and many others from watching all your videos. I'm actually saving up right now to buy a tarp and make my own hot tent, and your video is the inspiration. Keep up the great work sir and can't wait to see what videos are next. Good luck to you all on this giveaway.
Due to the humble nature of this comment , and your consideration for others, I am going to enter you in the giveaway anyway. Good luck on your tent build! You will get many years of use out of it I am sure ! Thank you very much for your kind words -Justin
Those cords are meant to run through the additional loop on the clip/clevis device thinger mabobber!! Nice shelter system i love it, stay strong&healthy safe&happy brotha!!(=✌💚
interesting...It does appear that way now that you mention it, and I just checked. ...I wonder why they didn't come threaded through that way from the factory...and the knots on the dyneema are too big to fit through......the 2 I just checked anyway. I got one to go through but it was a hassle. Now I have to set it up again ......
Great review. I am looking for an option for areas that a hammock won't work. There have been a couple places in the whites where I wanted to camp, but couldn't set up my hammock because it was at the edge of an old log yard and the trees were too close together and too young. If I moved into the woods far enough to get to trees suited for a hammock, I lost the view that I wanted. If I do receive this tent and I am not happy with it, I will pass it on to someone that can use it.
The hammock has helped get me back into camping. Never slept well on the ground. I did enjoy car camping with a cot, and then a buddy let me borrow his hammock setup. I slept great in it. Thankfully for my wallet, I've had good luck with inexpensive hammocks. I can understand how a hammock isn't for everyone.
@@Doc_Watson I don't like the swinging motion and movement. I love the diversity of camping. Everyone is different....it's great! I am hoping that one of these days I will stumble across a hammock set up that I like.
Wow you have so many choice to pick from with gear. I am slowly building mine up. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I would love to win this tent for my very first overnight backpacking trip I have planned with my son this summer on the PCT!! Kathy 🥾
looks like a great tent, i just came across your channel while searching for a new tent, like your content subscribed, i got some more good content to view, i have just started camping on a budget for sure, sooo walmart it is, this would be awesome to win, my first camping experience was a nightmare, walmart tents leak,, so now i have a tarp to cover a tent, humm. kinda defeats the purpose .thanks for the chance to win this tent,
Thanks for the review I've been looking into getting a trekking pole tent. This would be nice for some solo over night trips. I hope I win the giveaway
This is a fantastic question. I would go for the Arches 1. And this is why, It's cheaper and already comes with a bug net with an awesome bathtub floor. There is the light weight option to just use the rain fly , and It is much more water proof than the rocket, already seam sealed ( the rocket is not) The arches also has a lot more room in it. A Lot! After I made the giveaway video I thought about how cool it could possibly be to put a stove jack in the arches......there is enough room there for a crafty person to do so if they wanted. The arches 1 really grew on me....I just may buy another.
Justin would like to receive a tent such as this. Just starting to get into outdoor camping. And have no tents as of now. That meet those standards. Very much in need. Just living paycheck to paycheck. So difficult to save. Love youre videos. And name. My sons name is Justin.
Well first, boooo gear junkies don’t get rid of their gear unless they have doubles lmao. And even then it’s ify. Looks just like the Lanshan 2 but I really like how they seam sealed everything at the factory. That was my biggest issue with my lanshan. I had to seal the side guy outs. And after a few years it’s like peeling away now and looks like crude. Great giveaway! As a fellow gear junkie I want this cause, it’s gear but I don’t need it. Thanks for the review.
Hey Justin great review and content. do you think the weights are accurate all in Ian at 3.1 lbs the tent its self no stakes around 2.6lbs. how do you think it would stand up to wind. Atb from England Si
😂😂 “I’m haunted by the things I did for a Klondike Bar” 😂😂 Wait? quality control is not supposed to drink everyday? I would like to win this tent because the only one person tent I have is a bivy, and I’m sick of hearing my hammock hanging brother tease me about the “lack of room” it has... 🙄. That and I like the weight to functionality of this. I wanna give it a try!
Hi buddy, thanks for the review, I've since purchased this tent and would like to know what size dynema you used when you changed from the original? All the best. Richard
I'm in love the whole design weight doesn't really make much difference to me I'm not a minimalist I'm 65yrs old and I don't have any toes on my left foot so I don't hike very far but I'm going to take my nephew out for a weekend trip this summer and I need a good tent for him I have a couple of hammocks but if you pick me I can let him use the tent I prefer to use a hammock so if you pick me I'll give it my best effort to enjoy owning it Thanks for your kind consideration
So I am trying to hike the at in 2022 been looking forward to it for awhile. Then I got hurt at work in 2019. Had a 750 pound roll cage fall and pin me against a brick wall. By the way I am a truck driver and was delivering Chevy car parts. Paid great money. So a thru hike was not going to be a big deal. Well had surgery in feb 2020. Then had to have surgery again in October 2020 to fix first doctors mistakes. So not to mention I had to pay for second surgery. Work let me go. Now I am on the road to recovery! Needless to say I will never be able to push freight again. Not sure when I am gonna be able to do hike now but not giving up. Would like to see how I like the trekking pole tents. But can’t spend a fortune to see if I like it. There are a lot of people on hard times due to COVID-19 and outta work to so in all fairness they should get a shot. At least I will be able to go back to just driving a semi. You are doing a good thing!!!!
Awesome giveaway Justin. I’m trying to get my close friend into backpacking, and the initial gear load out, as I’m sure you appreciate, is a little expensive. He’s got himself a great car camping tent, but nothing suitable for backpacking. If you chose me to win this giveaway, I’d be immediately paying this forward to a very deserving father and good man who could use some healthy outdoors time.
Hey. I'm just 4 weeks out from having a brain stroke. Recovery is going well. Minimizing my pack weight for obvious reasons. This tent would be awesome. Especially since I will be required to hike with trekking poles. Great video.
Nice video brother ! That is amazingly similar to the Lanshan 2 ,although the Lanshan 2 doesn’t come seam sealed. It is a bit lighter. The color on the other hand is premium ! It’s a little heavy, but for the price, two doors, made in the USA, a good inexpensive alternative for sure. Mmmm.. sloppy Joe ‘s !
Hi Justin, great video, got me very interested.Just worried about the length.I'm 6ft 2.How tall are you?. With a sleeping mat it will be closer to the sloping sides. Thanks again.
I am 5'7" lol At your height, I think it would be tight. Have you considered getting the 2 person version? That should give you quite a bit more room with a minimal weight increase
I have a Lan Shan 2p. Was thinking the whole time that this seems the same, except it’s 6” narrower. Then you said just that at the end. Thanks for the give away. I’m sure someone can use this tent, but it’s not for me.
I’ve been looking at both, Mier Lan Shan 2 and Paria Outdoors Arches 1p, but the Arches has an included footprint which is vital to me. Great review of pros and cons!
Great review and great ?'s to ask Paria - I do not currently own a trekking pole tent, but have been moving in that direction as far as researching. So it would be great to have something to 'try out' and see if that is my thing or not, since I dabble in everything including hammock camping as well.
Hey Justin, nice review. I've never owned a tent, but I plan to one day. Trying to educate (and entertain) myself through your experience. When my infant gets big enough, I might start off in the backyard and move up from there. Keep that content coming!
Justin , I would like to have this tent because all my tents are "old school " military surplus and much heavier .This would be my first modern piece of kit . Always enjoy your videos . Stay strong...
My husband loves winter camping and because of me he usually won’t go and his tent rotted. I’d love to win it for him. Thank you got the chance to win and good luck everyone!
Another great gear review. I myself like the Paria Brand as well. I own a very small one man summer "triangle shaped" mesh tent. Would love to own this Arches 1-Person double walled tent. Here in Louisiana, it would be the perfect "do it all" tent for 4 seasons down here! Thanks again! 💪👌👍
I have been saving to get another tent for my three youngest girls to be able to go on backpacking trips with me. They love car camping and hiking so it’s time to combine both and do some backpacking with them. Got my oldest daughter a hammock set up for Christmas. Very thankful that my kids like the outdoors as much as me.
I'm not sure. It was a solid first effort that's for sure. The water proof rating on this tent is pretty impressive. I kinda wish I still had this tent
Good camping spot! Bourbon, nice!! Way to go on pointing out the deficiencies 👏 ( and showing the fixes) Way too many, are just trying to push out product on their channels. Honesty is refreshing. That is why I watch your channel. Loved the QC drinking on the job reference😂 If I am chosen. I will donate this to an amazing young woman who is struggling to balance nursing school (Online) and waitressing at some local diner at 50% capacity. All she has now is a Trekker 1 tent which she saved up for nearly 7 months. But that thing leaks like a sieve!!! I have tried to seam seal it for her 3 times now. It would be awesome for her to be able to get an opportunity to go out overnight without having to worry about what little gear she does have getting ruined or getting hypothermia from the leakage. Fingers crossed 🤞
Thank you very much for the kind words and your support. I made a decision very early on to not be a product pusher. I no longer accept free gear. Not the road I want to go down. I admire your cause for wanting this tent. Good luck to you Richard
Great review. Especially "I like this tent but you can do better." I'm on trail at least twice a month (30 trips last year) throughout Virginia. I'm shopping for a new tent since I melted my Big Agnes mesh. I'd be happy to try a trekking pole tent.
@@ItsGoodintheWoods shit happens. I was air drying it in my dryer after we trip. I had it on the site only seeing, that's when I learned I had a faulty thermostat, have me max heat. I could smell it melting.
oh man it's such a great review ! I just started finding a lighter tent which is affordable. I have started my camping journey since few years ago after I broke up with my girl and watched the movie"into the wild". I feel like I belong to the wild, I feel much more comfortable and relaxing when I get into the woods, I feel like I am actually living when I escaped from the city and have a deep breath in front of big trees.I would love to camp and tramp just like Chris McCandless. I promised myself that I would be going for working holidays and camping everywhere I like in the near future in other countries, but sadly WuHan Virus stopped me. Currently I am using tent from decathlon and DOD, but both are so heavy for me to walk into mountains, so this paria arches maybe a good choice for me! However, I am one of your viewers that from HK, I may not be able to get the giveaway, but still, its so good to share the reason I started and why I like camping with you. Keep up the great review and love to see more of your camping videos! I hope I can GO to USA camping one day XD Have a nice day!
"Looks like quality control was drinking that day." 😊👍 Thanks, Justin. Looks like a great little tent. Currently, I don't have a lightweight tent for warm weather, just a hammock. That tent looks well made, and the added weight might be due to the heavier than normal coating. I want one! Thanks for the well done review! 👍
Great review, honest and thorough. I am currently a hammock camper but would love trying a 1 person tent. It would give me another reason to get outside and spend even more times in the woods.
