I've done this hike every year for the past five.... With the exception of last year.. flash floods were predicted, so I opted out! I've always started at Wire pass and or Buckskin gulch trail heads, and have always done it early to mid July. That last day , to lees ferry has always kicked my ass, due to the heat.. this year my permit is for June 17th.... I hope one month makes a huge difference
This is a cool video, Eric! I just got a permit today to do this with my cousin in late May. Getting the permit was crazy…. Like trying to get front row tickets for The Beatles.
@@ericmeyer315 Nice I have the two smaller versions. But I think I'm going to take my SMD Swift V for this hike. I got to play with packing but I got time. Keep safe and have fun!
Beautifully done video! How many liters of water were you carrying? I’m assuming you didn’t filter water in the Paria unless it was a last resort? I’m sure that would have wreaked havoc on a filter! Looks like a fabulous trip!
Thank you Maryann! I filled up water at Big Spring on day 2 and Shower Spring on day 3, which allowed me to avoid filtering the Paria - yeah, it would've destroyed my filter. I can't say I can remember exactly how much water I carried at any point, but it was probably around 3 liters at most, although I also had about 1.5 liters as 'emergency backup water' at all times. Didn't end up drinking any of that, but it gave me some peace of mind!
@@ericmeyer315 - I would have been so stressed out about not having enough water filtered. LOL! I have a feeling the water in the Sierra Nevada Mountains will be an issue like that. I'm going to have to schlep a lot of water with me on a few of the trips I have planned. But like you said, it gives you peace of mind having some extra!
