Next month marks an important step in the reconstruction of Paris’ iconic Notre Dame cathedral, heavily damaged by fire four years ago. The base of the new spire is to be built, and officials hope to reopen the cathedral by the end of next year. From Briey, France, where the work on the spire is being done, Lisa Bryant reports.

I'm surprised they're going this fast. I remember a year (maybe two years) ago, reading that work was being heavily delayed because they were having difficulty getting the money and labor. But if they've gotten this far since then, that's a huge achievement. I just hope they aren't rushing to get done before the five-year anniversary or the Summer Olympics. They should take as much time as they need to, even if that means working past either of those points.

Notre Dame Cathedral is important because France is, culturally, the eldest daughter of the Catholic Christianity. That in France, too, crimes (arson, murder, persecution) have been committed against Holy God and His Church - is simply the ongoing way of the secular world... As to the video's reference to a "Global" Celebration of beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral's reopening.... alas, historically, we Catholics know very well how "Global powers that be" (of this passing world) have treated not only our Blessed Lord Jesus - but also those of us who sincerely seek to follow Him: "Celebration'" would not be the accurate word... As devout Catholics, we must be prepared for our lives to echo the reality of Good Friday... we are undeterred only because Easter is indeed coming.🙏🕯🌄

During its construction in the Middle Ages and its restoration in the 19th century by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, the craftsmen (Compagnons du devoir) didn't have the high-tech tools that we have now. About 1,000 people work on and off the Notre Dame site, from Compagnons to architects, including stone quarries. At the time of its construction, it is estimated that this figure would have been quadrupled.

In this particular case, the best architechs are tasked NOT to redesign Notre Dame, but to replace the missing parts (carpentry, stonework) after checking the structural strength of replaced items. Even the exact same mortar used in in 12th Century will be used. You have NO IDEA about the preparartion work, analysis that took place before any reconstruction begins. Art is a very serious matter here in France. Here is what French architects can do (in case you have doubts ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DlbTNJ0AU1Y.html

The teams in charge of the restoration had to relearn skills that had disappeared, the care taken to reproduce identically the elements of the cathedral that were destroyed is incredible. In addition, they can rely on existing documents such as the precise architectural surveys of the medieval structures, in particular the framework, which were produced in 2015 by the architects Rémi Fromont and Cédric Trentesaux, in addition to those made in 1915 by the architect Henri Deneux. In addition, a scan of the framework was carried out in 2014 by the company Art Graphique et Patrimoine (150 scans). Nothing is left to chance, like the acoustics by studying that of Sens Cathedral, which has a similar architecture and dates from the same period.

Back in the middle ages, most people didn't know how to read or write for that matter. A cathedral was for many cities across Europe the center of their cultural, espiritual and pride symbol. The windows will tell the story of jesus, and the spire that came in different times with changes was for the 12 apostels, the 4 evangelicals and Jesus top representing the crosss, as to tell story. Why the hell are they reconstructing the original roof? Props to all the master artisans and craftspeople, but the original roof is the reason they're in this mess to begin with! Sure, rebuild the roof to appear identical with the original on the exterior.
